Minto Brookline Stage 1 has been plagued with delays and false closing dates. We are on our third…read moredelayed notice. It has been more than two years since buyers have initially signed the contract and still there is no clear end in sight. Home buyers have been given short notice of delayed closing giving them very little time to arrange accommodation. Most of the buyers have either sold their property or renting temporarily. Given uncertainty with the closing dates, we have to scramble to find temporary accommodation. All of the uncertainty and false closing dates has taken a toll on our personal and work life. We regret making the purchase from Minto and completely dissatisfied with the experience. The Tarion warranty is outdated and does not provide adequate buyer protection capping the compensation at 7500. Tarion should allow buyers provide added compensation in case of prolonged delays and limit the number of delay notices that can be issued between firm and outside closing dates. Being a reputable builder, we call on Minto to set higher standards and do the RIGHT thing. 1) Provide adequate compensation for delayed closings beyond Tarion guidelines. Minto charges 220 dollars if the buyer delays the closing. How about we apply the same penalty for Minto for each day of delay? 2) Provide clarity in closing dates. Giving short notices of delays is causing a lot of stress and anxiety. Give certainty of closing dates rather than last resort. 3) Be honest about what is impacting closing dates and causing delays. We have heard excuses from sub-division registration to easements to the stormwater pond. Lately we are hearing that there are disputes with the land boundaries. If the builder is dealing with disputes in land titles, the delays can be longer. GET YOUR FACTS straight. 4) STOP making excuses and blaming other parties. Be accountable for your failures. 1/25/2024: Despite numerous attempts to reach out to Minto. They have not been to able resolve the issues. They keep fabricating excuses.
