After learning to teach reading phonetically, I was able to more effectively teach reading, writing, and spelling, even to students with ADD, ADHD, and dyslexia. I was also able to successfully teach English language learners. The method I use is simple. I start students at the beginning of reading - phonics. I teach students the letter sounds and how to write each letter to avoid reversals that may or may not be a sign of dyslexia. Then students learn how to use those sounds to build words through a dictated spelling program. From building words we move to using those words to write sentences with correct grammar and punctuation. Reading, writing, and spelling are the necessary elements of literacy. I've been tutoring students, both children and adults, for the past 22 years. I help adults improve their reading, writing, and spelling skills using the same method. Adult students generally learn at a much faster pace. Reading enrichment classes are available.

We've been at Best Brains now for a few months - we needed something more than the public school…read morewas offering. Like phonics. And math that you can understand. My kids are young, but like school and I want to foster that now, while I still can. Best Brains immediately tests the kids to see about where they are academically, then give you books to take home and practice every night. Once per week they meet in very small groups and help the student with chosen subjects (in our case we are doing both English and Math). If you actually do the books each night, it is about 15 minutes or work per subject. BB pays off completed work with brain bucks, which the kids can use in the little store. The test results are still forthcoming. The public school decided not to test my son this year (?!?!?!) for reading so I guess we have to wait a while to see the end result. I'm not all for standardized tests, but that is a long subject for a different forum. Bottom line is my kids seem to enjoy it and it is extra practice that the school isn't eager to provide.

At that time, he didn't even know all his upper case letters. In 1 year and 8 months, he is now able to read at a Senior Reader level. By Feb 2018, I added on their Math class. Now, he is able to add and subtract, count in 2s/5s/10s, tell time, understand patterns and bar graphs (his favorite). And to think, he hasn't even started Kindergarten yet! I think, what makes Best Brains work is having fun and engaging homework. It is never redundant and boring. Also, the staff is AMAZING! My son started when he was 3, and his attention span was not the greatest. The staff work well with him and is very patient with him during the entire hour that he is at class. They are good at getting him to re-focus whenever he gets distracted. Hands down to all of them! I highly recommend Best Brains to anyone that wants to get ahead in learning!
