School of business management (SBM 6. Education and social services (ESSM) Is this school hard?? Yes it is, and depending on which school you go into it may be even harder. For example TAG is harder overall than HSHP. They get more work and have high standards over all. Though some schools may have higher standards all the school are great and each holds their students to what they believe to be a reasonable academic goal. Is it hard to get in?? Yes and no, it has gotten easier which is a complaint I have. The class size has gone up so it is "easier" to get in. But it is in no way easy to get in. You still have to prepare and deliver on all the entry requirements and if even then nothing is guaranteed. Personally I love this school it prepares me perfectly for the future I want and sets me on the math to make my dreams into reality. All the teachers are great at their job so if you aren't doing good in a class that's on you because I know the teachers do all they can to help you succeed. From tutoring times to giving out their emails so you can ask questions at any times. If you come to Townview and are willing to put in the work then the teachers will be sure to help you get where you want to go and end up with that dipping your hand. I was gleeful... my HS daughter, was another story, her response, "Caf food is awful!" "Awful" seemed a bit extreme, but this is young person who typically has a lunch bag packed with hummus, tabbouleh and feta cheese chunks with naan bread and fresh fruit salad. But, with an entire year of FREE LUNCHES on the table, I had to check it out for myself. The meal was not bad for the $3 'civilian' rate I paid! Jumbo Fish Stick on wheat bun, beans, lime rice, mac n cheese all rather flavorful; but the canned fruit... not so much. The fish was actually FISH, not like the 'fish product' of yore! It flaked like fish, had a lightly crunchy crust and wasn't greasy at all. It possibly was baked! I fixed it up with Sriracha sauce and Ranch dressing. They get major creds for the service bar (fresh orange infused iced water) with a nice assortment of condiments! Not just salt/pepper, ketchup/mustard; there were bottles of lime juice, Sriracha sauce, BBQ sauce, Cajun, Ranch & Balsamic dressings and more! I certainly didn't have it this good at my HS cafeteria! The 'Kiddling'? She will be enjoying the culinary benefits of my school tax dollars this year! What we save will go towards Restaurant Week 2015, YAH! ABOUT THE TOWNVIEW CAMPUS... This campus is one of the best kept secrets in the often maligned DallasISD system. You can tell they genuinely care about the children as individuals, not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually too. It feels like they're truly invested in helping each child grow, and that kind of environment is priceless as a parent. One of the things we love most is the commitment to small class sizes. It makes such a difference in the level of attention and support the kids receive, and it creates a close-knit community. We also really appreciate that the school is authentically Catholic. The faith is not just a label. It's woven into daily life in a meaningful, genuine way, and it's something we value so much for our family. We feel grateful to be part of this school community and would absolutely recommend it to any family looking for strong academics, caring teachers, and a faithful Catholic environment.

I had some amazing, compassionate theology teachers, and one who made me feel like I was going to hell because I wasn't Catholic. Ursuline does prepare you well for AP testing, but in some AP classes that have multiple teachers, how well you do depends almost entirely on which teacher you get as some prepare you better than others. However, the school places WAY too much emphasis on sports, and a lot of the funding is funneled into athletics. When I was there, I was a member of the Speech and Debate team. We got no attention or funding from the school, and it showed at competitions. I had to hire a separate, outside-of-school forensics coach just to know what I was doing. It was frankly embarrassing to go up against other prep schools like Hockaday and Parish, both of which had paid coaches and did very well, with no support from the school. It never really felt like a team as much as it did certain individuals (who were very good but had to figure it out for themselves with no coach) competing.

Coming out of Plano public schools, it was soooo refreshing to finally make some girl friends that are worth keeping (nothing against Plano, but I found my classmates to be a lot of things, but genuine was not one of them). I will have it be noted that it has been 7 years since I graduated and I still talk to my 5 best friends from high school daily (via email.. but it still counts). Friends like that are a rare find and worth every penny my precious parents spent on my tuition here. A few months ago, I went to a dinner for Bay Area Alumnae. It was so fun to see generations of UA girls and get together to hear about what is new at the school. I am really hoping to be able to do it again soon. It sounds like some major renovations are happening and it is so exciting to see our beautiful campus being so nicely maintained. Not only did I make lifelong friends here, but I received a great education and learned to be a confident and competent woman. As a parent, that is all you can ask for!

Woodrow works wonders. It serves a population which goes from the children of doctors, lawyers and…read moreother post-grad professionals to those whose parents didn't finish school in Mexico. This mix is unique, you won't find it at other schools. The social skills and friendships formed are as impressive as the academics. Speaking of that, The Dallas Morning News recently published that Woodrow is #1 in academic gains in Dallas. The school was redesigned three years ago into four college prep academies which offer AP and IB (International Baccalaureate). Woodrow and its feeder, J. L. Long Middle School, are the only two IB schools in Dallas. Transfers for those out of the attendance zone are available with applications starting in January. Unlike DISD magnets, Woodrow offers the full range of athletic and extracurricular activities. It is the quintessential American high school experience. The Lakewood area is a bit like a small town and many generations have attended the school resulting in many traditions and an extensive alumni network. My only gripe would be that the principal, going into his third year, is a little to strict on spirit and pep rallies. He does attend most sporting events, however. Overall, it's a great school and a true oasis of education in DISD.
