I am extremely disappointed at the lack of sensitivity from the school at this time during the Covid 19 pandemic. The school hasn't been sensitive to the financial constraints parents are facing. Sugar Creek Montessori has not adjusted the tuition for the time the school has been closed (two weeks now). They have charged parents for the normal curriculum which includes full time staff and materials but are only providing "ONLINE TEACHING" which should be offered at a discount. Some of us are out of work or have reduced incomes. Others are trying to manage the demands of working from home while taking care of our kids. I've sent multiple emails regarding a refund or at least a credit and all I get is a generic response "Thank you for your feedback". I have tried calling, but I of course do not get an answer. Understand, I am not giving you my feedback I need an answer! Your policy is "NO PRORATION FOR SICKNESS AND/OR VACATION", however, this is not a vacation, this is an unfortunate situation the world has encountered so all I am asking for is for fairness and my tuition to be valued at the product I am getting or lack of product to be honest. My child has been at this school for 2 years now and has enjoyed his time there. His teachers are great and he loves them very much. We have never had any issues prior to this situation, but at this point I feel the need to complain and voice my frustration with the administration. I have called around to check other schools policies and I am astonished to find out that 2 owners of two well known Montessori schools are discounting the tuition due to this pandemic situation without hesitation. I would hope that your school or should I say our school would be one of the local schools to acknowledge the services being rendered do not warrant the tuition fees we paid during the month of March. As of now, parents have been told April tuition will be charged once the school figures out how to offer an "off-site curriculum". The learning habits she formed at MHFC made her successful and middle school and now in high school. Beyond academics, she gained exposure to different cultures, learned to respect and accept diverse opinions, and build friendships that will last a lifetime. Even after leaving MHFC, our daughter continued to stay connected. During school vacations, she returned to visit and help which classroom chores. Now in high school, she volunteers at MHFC, an opportunity the school gladly offered. This encouragement for alumni involvement reflects on the school's deep care for its students, long after they graduate. We left the public school system after the 4th grade and witnessed an immediate change in our son. I thought Montessori was a laissez-faire approach to learning but that is not the case at Riverbend. The curriculum is structured in terms of content but flexible with how each student learns. The classrooms are mixed grade levels but the students operate at their own pace. Some are more advanced in math whereas others are not. The teachers are very much in tune with the students' academic, emotional and social developments. Learning is very tactile, utilizing tools (beads, boards, etc.) to reinforce understanding, not just memorizing. Homework is assigned with a purpose; incorrect math problems must be corrected to ensure mastery of the topics. Books are read and literary analyses are performed to understand setting, plot, theme and characters. Laptops are used for research but very much controlled and monitored. Field trips are common in order to reinforce their curriculum. Creativity is another strong point of this school. An annual play is performed where all students have a role. Creative writing is a special event that involves students writing personalized short stories and presenting them to parents. Music and art are taught weekly and involve learning instruments such as ukeleles and kalimbas as well as recreation of famous masterpieces (Van Gogh, Vermeer, Warhol, etc.). The culmination of all the hard work is on display at their end-of-year Art Festival where students showcase their art and perform musical ensembles. The teachers are nothing short of incredible; they are vested and believe in their students. They spend extra time with students and manage all field trips, including overnight ones. They encourage natural curiosity; champion building responsibility and accountability through hard work and perseverance; allow students to learn from their mistakes; and encourage them to advocate for themselves. After two years with this amazing school, we see a much more confident and mature child who is ready to take on new challenges. My only regret with Riverbend is not enrolling sooner. If you are looking for a school that will develop your child your child's love of learning, critical thinking skills and sense of responsibility, this is the school. If you want a babysitter, please look elsewhere.

We had a bday party with his classmates and they had a blast. Ms.Lemia loves and cares genuinely for the children, the recent lesson they had was the full life cycle of monarch butterfly and he brought home a book about caterpillar and a stuffed caterpillar the other day.
