In three months he has grown into a much more confident reader, and his reversals are almost gone. The tutors are wonderful and make the learning FUN for him by using a multi-sensory approach. Such a great program!!! They are very flexible with my schedule and always provide make-up sessions if we should miss one. They are even open on holidays!

I can't say enough good things about our experience with the staff at Excel. I had suspected for…read morequite some time that my daughter had something going on that wasn't quite right. She often reversed numbers and letters, transposed words or parts of words, and skipped words or phrases all together. As she got older, it became more and more evident because her school work was getting more difficult. Reading and writing were so difficult. It would take her such a long time and so much effort, that it often resulted in tears. As a homeschooler, I work so closely with her day in and day out, I could really see the struggle. I started researching reading disorders such as dyslexia, etc. I wasn't thrilled with what I had found. I talked to many reading/dyslexia specialists, and all they could offer me was a VERY expensive "bandaid" that would never actually fix the problem. A friend of mine told me about vision therapy, and how all 5 of her kids had gone to Excel. When Dr. Gietzen evaluated my daughter, he confirmed that she had some very severe deficits but was so optimistic and confident that they could be corrected. Some of her evaluations were so low that they couldn't even be tested. She has completed her course of VT with Stephanie and corrected EVERY single problem area. Stephanie was absolutely wonderful! My daughter was sad to end therapy because she wouldn't be seeing Stephanie every week. Now my daughter is at least in the range of normal or above for ALL of the areas she struggled with. It is amazing to me how much she has improved with her schoolwork and also athletics. It made sense why she was so clumsy and uncoordinated before. Every area of her life was being negatively affected by this, and now every area of her life has improved. I am so thankful that we found this solution for her. She just had her 3 month follow-up appointment, and her vision is completely stable - no regression. It's amazing what they've been able to do for her. Thank you so much to the staff at Excel.

I could almost cry writing this! My son has some confidence issues. Mild autism, and a muscle…read moredisorder which affects his gait and fine and gross motor skills. Let's just say he has a bit of an extra challenge. But I can't even express the power of amazing teachers!! Every single one of his teachers this year fostered his confidence. He's a shy child but, his teachers told me he was a top participant in his classes. They encouraged him and praised him and also assisted him to use his skills in unique ways. For example, an art project for my son is daunting. He gets very stressed. He doesn't have the coordination to cut and paste or anything intricate. His teacher worked with him and allowed him to use his computer skills instead. So he was producing videos and power point presentations in place of some of the assigned work. This entire year, I knew his teachers cared about him, and his grades and wellbeing. I am sure this is also a reflection of great leadership on the administration side of things as well! Nate went from struggling last year in virtual school to shining brightly! With his math and science teachers' encouragement he applied, and was accepted, into Utica's Center for Math Science and Technology! He also managed to get on the all A honor roll! Thank a teacher! They can make an enormous difference in your child's confidence! I can't believe I have a Freshman now!

Utica Community Schools rock! I have 5 kids that currently attend 2 of the schools in the district…read more My oldest is at the junior high, but because he is in 9th grade, he's in the matching band for Eisenhower High school. This school is as exceptional, as the rest in the district. When we sold our house back in April, our number 1 criteria for finding a new house was that it HAD to be in the Utica district. We bought a house in Slate August, just days before the start of the new year- and it WAS in the Utica district. So close to our old house that our kids did not even have to switch school. The teachers are amazing and willing to help and go above and beyond 110%! They are willing to meet at your convenience- if you ever need to talk or if you see your child struggling. The inside of the schools are always immaculate- even if there is 100s of kids spending 8 hours plus inside. I can't say enough good things about Utica Community Schools. I'm so pleased with the education my kids are receiving!

I went to Lutheran High North and had a really positive experience. It's a Christ-centered school…read morewhere faith is taken seriously--not just in class or chapel, but in how people treat each other. That made a big impact on me, and it's something I still value today. Academically, I felt challenged and well-prepared for college. There were strong classes, great teachers, and a good balance of support and expectations. It's not a massive school, which actually made it easier to get involved--sports, clubs, music, student groups--you didn't have to be the best to participate, and that meant a lot. No place is perfect, but LHN is a strong, affordable option for families looking for a high school that combines solid academics, a real sense of community, and a faith-first approach. I'm really glad I went there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Hands down, Lutheran North beats todays public school environment! The only complaint I believe the…read moreacademic probation for athletes should be higher standard. I would prefer if any student drops below a "C", he/she should only be allowed to participate in practices only. Two "F's" is far to unit as opposed to my standards for my student athlete.

Baldwin Elementary School has been such a fantastic place for our family. I went to school at…read moreBaldwin personally, and knew exactly where I would send my children when the time came. I have two boys that have had nothing but positive, enriching experiences. Every morning they wake up excited to go to school and every afternoon they can't wait to tell us some of the things they learned or did that day. The staff is so hands on and really make the children and parents feel so comfortable. The office staff answers phones and returns calls promptly, the principal is often seen interacting directly with students, they have Deputy Z to teach about safety and different scenarios, beautiful playground, and so much more. I am so thankful that Baldwin has been such a positive experience for my boys (and even myself) I cannot say enough positive things to describe the impact their program has with my children. I highly recommend Baldwin Elementary to anyone in the area and love that we still have a few more years with them!

Ms. Samantha is very kind and helpful, and although people think Mr. Moy is rude, he actually does what he can to ensure that students are successful. We've been at Best Brains now for a few months - we needed something more than the public school…read morewas offering. Like phonics. And math that you can understand. My kids are young, but like school and I want to foster that now, while I still can. Best Brains immediately tests the kids to see about where they are academically, then give you books to take home and practice every night. Once per week they meet in very small groups and help the student with chosen subjects (in our case we are doing both English and Math). If you actually do the books each night, it is about 15 minutes or work per subject. BB pays off completed work with brain bucks, which the kids can use in the little store. The test results are still forthcoming. The public school decided not to test my son this year (?!?!?!) for reading so I guess we have to wait a while to see the end result. I'm not all for standardized tests, but that is a long subject for a different forum. Bottom line is my kids seem to enjoy it and it is extra practice that the school isn't eager to provide.

At that time, he didn't even know all his upper case letters. In 1 year and 8 months, he is now able to read at a Senior Reader level. By Feb 2018, I added on their Math class. Now, he is able to add and subtract, count in 2s/5s/10s, tell time, understand patterns and bar graphs (his favorite). And to think, he hasn't even started Kindergarten yet! I think, what makes Best Brains work is having fun and engaging homework. It is never redundant and boring. Also, the staff is AMAZING! My son started when he was 3, and his attention span was not the greatest. The staff work well with him and is very patient with him during the entire hour that he is at class. They are good at getting him to re-focus whenever he gets distracted. Hands down to all of them! I highly recommend Best Brains to anyone that wants to get ahead in learning!
