If that wasn't enough they lied to my face when questioned. I assume this was done to cover for each other. The last straw was when my daughter came home with a bite mark, that they provided ice for, was not reported to me when I picked her up. They do have genuinely nice teachers. I also pay such a high tuition to ensure my daughter was safe. Which seemed like they had an issue doing. Now, I was going to leave them be but they are now harassing us for a balance of $422, which their district has corrected according to my wife. I don't know what they need to address keeping the children safe but they need to figure something out! Second, their book keeping is atrocious. I have attached their book keeping, which shows, missing payments. It also shows an overall very unorganized book keeping process. The staff have always been helpful and the facility has always been well run. My son gets great attention for his needs, never complains about attending, and has made some amazing friends since his arrival! We had 2 previous daycare programs before Wooden Shoe, one private and one "chain". Both were okay, but here my son is getting an amazing experience that he enjoys talking about at the end of each day. It will be sad when he finally leaves for Kindergarten but even then he can still attend their after school program and keep seeing those kids that he has built relationships with. He gets to practice swimming (indoor pool w/ swimming lessons INCLUDED), music, art, education basics, and be active in a safe place. As for some of the negatives I've seen in the reviews: They do fundraisers/book fairs about twice a year and there is NO pressure to perform. The fundraising efforts are minimal and completely able to be ignored if you choose to do so. As for "prayer" they give thanks before eating lunch; they're not receiving communion, theyre not attending service, theyre not getting pressured by nuns to remember the sabbath. We're not a "churchy" family either, but if saying thanks for 5 seconds every day means my son has a safe place where my he can play and learn while his parents work 40 hours a week, Ill take it. Hell, Ill even give some thanks myself.

I have PTSD from the judgement my child received, lack of support, poor communication, and overall unprofessionalism of leadership. The teachers were very kind, but unfortunately, not fully equipped to support a variety of children's needs. My child has thrived since leaving this school and had zero issues with classmates and teachers. I believe if you're child is quite docile and loves to work alone that this could be a fine enough option for you, but if that's not the case, I'd encourage you to look elsewhere. And my best advice is just to talk to a handful of parents at the school. It can seem really nice on the surface, but the best way to know what it's really like is to talk to the community of parents that currently have children enrolled. Many felt the same way, but as you know, it's hard to find good childcare so it was the lesser of the evils for a lot of families. I fully expect the school to try to retaliate this review (as defense was often the communication I was met with for any concerns), but I hope that some of the professionalism has come back to the school and they will just receive the feedback and learn from it.

My 14-month-old daughter used to attend Goddard School Erie at Vista Ridge. She was often crying at…read morepick up and shaking her head 'no' and crying at drop off with the teacher. This was very uncharacteristic of her. One Monday, at pick up my daughter was the only child left and I found her in a corner by herself crying. I was unable to settle her or get her to stop crying until after we got home that night. The teacher told me that my daughter was isolated like that after the other children had been picked up to work on 'regulating her emotions' (at just over a year old?). On Wednesday that week, when I picked her up, she was hysterical (again, this is very unlike her at home or in previous daycare). There was another child still in the class and a second teacher present this time. When I went to lift her up, the teacher told me that my daughter's hair was wet because "she needed to be spritzed a couple of times to help her regulate her emotions when she would not stop crying." I then noticed that her hair was soaked. I looked at the teacher in shock and she pointed at the wall where several spray bottles were hanging up and she stated that "some kids actually like being sprayed." I left immediately to gather myself and calm my child. I then emailed the director and requested an immediate meeting. We requested that a letter be sent to families of other children that could have also been treated this way by their teacher. Since a letter has yet to come out, and may never, I feel responsible to share our story with others. This is especially important since children in these classrooms aren't yet able to communicate these things with us. Ultimately, we lost trust in the school. Felt like there is a big miss here in terms of teacher education and general oversight in the classrooms. We pulled our daughter out. She has since joined a new daycare and is thriving. I am hopeful that the state licensing agency can help the school to reach the standard of other Goddard schools that we have previously known and loved.

Both of my children have attended Mountain Shadows Montessori School since the age of 3. I am…read morefortunate to have a few friends who are Montessori teachers, so even before I had children I began to hear and learn about this method. There was no doubt in my mind that if we were blessed with children, they would attend Mountain Shadows, especially as the only AMI accredited 12 month through 12 year program in the area. What this means to me as a parent is consistency and strict adherence to Maria Montessori's original vision. Accreditation aside, my children have always been happy about going to school. The school is situated on 12 beautiful acres and nature and outside exploring are out the back steps. As a product of a K-12 private college prep school myself, I appreciate that my children aren't stressed out all the time by the pressures of staying ahead of the mark, of "making the grade." There is ample time to do that the rest of their lives. One of my favorite things about the Montessori method is math. The fact that they learn in concrete terms first by manipulating materials; by getting a true sense of what a math problem looks and "feels" like, then they move to the abstract as they get older, amazes me. In other words, they get the why and the how before they ever have to calculate it on a piece of paper. You do not ever hear them saying, "Why do I have to know this? OR when will I ever use this?" The school itself has a very committed staff, teacher and parent volunteer group. It is often scary to drop your child off at age 3, but one thing I have always been secure in, is knowing that my children were in good hands. My only wish is that when my children started they had a young children's community (starts ~age 12 months). Amazing things happen at that age when children are allowed to flourish in such a nurturing, safe and prepared environment. It is so cool to watch the children in action at this age; they are busy, happy and purposeful. If anything I want my children to feel a purpose in life and I feel confident that our choice in Mountain Shadows has provided an excellent foundation.

Today we showed up and there was no lesson - the answer? 'Oh, I'm sorry, we're very backed up, you're one of the new people aren't you'. 'Oh, I see you here in the folder that I haven't got to you yet (4 weeks later) and we've given your slot away to someone else'. This is on top of the enquiry I made about cello lessons for my son. That enquiry took 3 weeks to respond to. They left me a voicemail, I got back immediately and left them a voicemail then....nothing, another 2 weeks to get a response from that call.
