I went with this company because the reviews seemed solid, but my experience was the complete opposite. I needed a very minor PVC pipe repair, and the quote I was given was nearly $800. That alone was unreasonable, even for after-hours service. When I questioned the price, the technician didn't handle it professionally--he became defensive and argumentative instead of explaining anything. After I declined, he stayed parked in my driveway for an extended period. When I asked about it, the situation felt uncomfortable and unnecessarily tense. Between the inflated pricing and the way the situation was handled, this was not a good experience. I would not use this company again and would suggest others proceed carefully. Update to my previous review: After being quoted nearly $800 for what I was told was a "necessary" PVC repair, I got a second opinion the very next morning. A licensed plumber completed the entire job for $229 in about 30 minutes--start to finish. Let that sink in. Not only was the original quote wildly inflated, but the repair itself didn't even require what they claimed. Instead of overpriced PVC work, the actual fix was done properly using copper piping--at a fraction of the cost. To make things worse, the owner later called me and doubled down on the pricing, citing his "30+ years of experience," while also claiming I was rude. I'm writing to report a serious safety concern involving one of your company drivers that occurred on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM on the freeway. While I was driving in the far-right lane, which was ending ahead, I attempted to merge safely into the next lane. I was already ahead of your company's van when I signaled to merge. However, the driver deliberately sped up to block me, refusing to allow space. As the lane became very narrow, I was forced to swerve abruptly to avoid hitting the shoulder -- a dangerous move, especially because I had my 5-month-old baby in the car. When I tried to merge again a bit further up, the driver sped up aggressively once more, nearly running me off the road. After I was finally able to merge into the far-left lane, the driver looked over at me chuckling nodding his head, showing complete disregard for the safety of others on the road. I have the vehicle's license plate number and your company phone number (361) 333‑2222 was clearly marked on the van. I have a photo of the vehicle. This behavior was reckless, unprofessional, and extremely dangerous, particularly for a company representing itself in the community. Did a service call on a Sunday for $89 Put a capacitor in and charged me $318 for a $15-25 part. Said if I would do their yearly warranty program they could reduce the price to $255. The new company we went with said Matthew's has a history of trying to rip people off. Please don't go with them, and if you do, make sure you get two quotes. We had a plumbing inspection done in our home this morning. Daniel, our technician, did a wonderful job. He replaced a filter in a shower head, and replaced some corroded connections in our plumbing under the kitchen sink. Daniel was professional, and gave estimates before doing the work. He also left several estimates for replacing our hot water heater, which we plan to do in the near future. So glad we have a contract with CCAC to have our plumbing, central air and heat, and electrical needs evaluated on a yearly basis. read more

I just took advantage of their preventive maintenance service on two AC units in my home . The Tech. that came over was prompt, nice and very professional. Why the low score? I was told the I was going to need to replace the capacitor that was going bad. I was quoted $280 plus tax. Upon checking this is a $15 capacitor and required not one minute more of labor to replace it rather than put the old one back in. In a time of crazy inflation, this kind of overcharging does not speak well for what is supposed to be a local, concerned service company. All companies deserve to make a fair profit. Charging $280 for a $15 dollar part is not fair. Shop around. read more

I wasn't going to write a review but since y'all solicited one from me- here you go: I pay $15 a month for minimum one year. That's $180 a year and includes an AC tune up. The guy came. He was nice and professional. It takes hours. He ends with all the numbers he's pulled and calculated while observing our unit. Tells me they don't carry the refrigerant my unit takes so he couldn't add any. He tells me my unit is too old to repair if it breaks down. (We've had it repaired recently by a family friend AC guy). Then tells me about all the brand new systems they sell which START at $20,000. Hahahaha! This "tuneup" took several hours and what am I supposed to do with all the numbers he gave me? Put them in my diary?!? There's nothing they do about them, what was the point except to proposition a new unit starting at $20,000. What a joke. read more

Omar Rodriguez with Mathews CCAC came out today and replace my living outlet. He was very kind and helpful. I called today and explained to them that I had my 3 restroom outlet not working and my ceiling fan switch was not working. They made sure that someone would come out and have them fix. Omar assure me that they would get fix, was very helpful to show me why the 3 outlet were not working. Guide me through and show me if this happens where the problem was for the outlets to get switch back on or I can also call them and they can come out to fix it. Call for a/c service and had a really good response from the service tech. The tech checked my system and found the air handler had a coolant leak and would need to replace the unit. No problem because the unit did have some age. He filled the unit with coolant and told me he needed to set up and appointment with the "Comfort Advisor". The appointment was set up for 3:00pm the same afternoon (5/17/22). At 3:45pm no one showed and no one called. I call Mr. John Cizler who is the comfort advisor, he told me he had no 3:00p appointment scheduled. I really don't think this company is concerned about customers. I overheard the service tech set up the appointment and confirm the time. A wasted day waiting. Unit still leaks coolant. Called another company for tomorrow morning. read more

Every single year we have to have this company come back out and have then repost our AC. They initially installed it in 2016, and very summer for the past several years it goes out, sometimes multiple times. We spent $700 last summer for them to find a leak, and they never did. Mathews tried to slap our head for $14,000. Their actions border on criminal. Our central AC stopped blowing cold. Mathews CCAC visited for a diagnosis. They noticed our handler was two decades old and recommended we replace it. They went on the roof and came down with a diagnosis of a faulty compressor. They said that the warranty just expired because the installers (after Hurricane Harvey) did not register the product. John showed up and gave me a quote for an entire replacement of air handler and the equipment on the roof. A less expensive model quote was around $11,500, or a higher SEER unit for nearly $14,000. He also gave me a quote to replace the compressor: $3483. He said that compressor quote was full, tax and all, "out the door." About twenty minutes after they left, Mathews sent me an email with the compressor quote which was nearly 500 dollars more than John quoted. John also said that they do fifty installs a week. I am not in the AC business but that seems a stretch to me. Take the average of the install prices they quoted me, and that means the company is doing around 2.4 million dollars a month JUST WITH NEW INSTALLS, not to mention all the other services they are doing. I thanked John for his time, mistakenly tipped him, sent him on his way then called another company. The other company showed up the following day. I went on the roof with him, and I also watched him pull a bunch of wires from behind a panel on the air handler and test them (Mathews did not do this). This guy declared the compressor was in good working order. This guy fixed our air. He replaced the thermostat on the wall for $250. read more

I am so disappointed in the the service that the company has provided. I called them out to my house in late October and November to work on the AC unit. Both visits the technicians recommended that we needed new duct work. So in February I made the call to get an estimate on how much that would cost. I was told someone would call me back. A week went by, so I called back stated what I wanted and was told again I would get a call back. The following day an employee called me and started to immediately go over prices to change everything out. I was confused because I had only previously been told that we needed duct work and that is it. I thought I was arranging for someone to come look at everything and get me prices. I shared that with the employee on the phone and he goes well you have the wrong department someone will call you back tomorrow. Another week went by with no call, so I called back. By this time I am very upset, I spoke with a lady and she asked me to wait as the person I needed to speak with was close by. I believe his name was Steve, Steve then proceeded to share with me that he was "looking" at my file and that we needed not only duct work and a new unit. This was the first I had heard of this. He said that the following day Ed would call me back. I have yet to hear from Ed or any other employee. The air condition finally gave out and instead of calling back, they've lost my business. I called AAA Air Conditioning and Heating and they came out same day and started the work on it the following day. Constantly Concerned About Customers is not accurate. This was easily a $10k job and they've lost my business in the time when the economy is decreasing due to Coronavirus. I was willing to have the work done and yet they can't even return a phone call. Our AC went out on Friday afternoon. We called and were quoted $123 for an after hours call. That was fine. The technician gets here and tells us that the system is iced over and does not think it will defrost for several hours, so he would need to return in the morning to figure things out; however that would be another $123 charge. I don't mind paying for a needed service call, but paying for the return call when it could not be really looked at during the first visit is highway robbery. I wish I had thought this through and called around for a better option. Be ware. There are other reputable AC repair shops in our city, as I found out today. read more

Had a $5000+ new ac unit installed. Owner did address my concerns after I made them known with multiple follow up calls to the business and emails made directly to him. He did his best to try to correct 3 mistakes that were made by his team. After the initial install, a refrigeration leak occurred. It was resolved after 2 more visits. I was also given a free warranty on the unit for piece of mind. This was good. Other issue was on the difference between a Trane AC and an Ameristar AC. Make sure you know exactly what your getting. Apparently, I didn't do enough research beforehand and ask the right questions but I won't get into that. However, interior unit broken platform board was never completely resolved after the contractor/carpenter never showed back up a 3rd time to sand the "wood bondo?" repair. Also, he wanted to know if I had any white paint on the 2nd visit?? Maybe a communication/language error but after all the calls, emails, and time waiting for fixes, I decided to just correct this last mistake myself. Overall, the owner did try to "make it right" but unfortunately an awful lot of time, drama involved with this expensive home ac replacement. Go elsewhere? Not sure? I feel this company did not deal with me honestly. They came out to my house put nearly 3 lbs of freon in my system. They told me they had to come back in 30 days to check system for leaks at no additional charge. When I set the recheck appt. they tried to sell me a maintenance agreement and tried to get out of recheck of a/c. After finally getting appt. they called one day before appt. and tried to charge me again. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

She did not have the common courtesy to contact me and inform me that my appointment would be cancelled, after waiting all day in a hot environment. Then she has a horrible attitude and suggest to reschedule my appointment for 5 days later. Fortunately, I contacted a competitor, in which they were at my home in 20 minutes and fixed my unit.
