I had no issues with Mat&Max company. I ordered on July 11, the order shipped on July 15, and I rec'd the order on July 20. They emailed me the Canada post tracking # the day they shipped it out and I rec'd the complete order and it was packaged very well. read more

Terrible customer service. My package arrived damaged. They'd included a complimentary sample of some kind of oil that I did not want and it leaked all over the package. When I opened it oil got everywhere staining and ruining my clothes and furniture. When I wrote to tell them, they said, it was a complimentary item so they would do nothing--entirely missing the point. Terrible customer service--no help at all. I'll be shopping elsewhere from now on. read more

Package says delivered but no sign of it. Their email to me says they aren't responsible for lost or stolen items. They had my cell number but didn't knock or call and package is nowhere to be seen. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! read more

They sent the wrong order and will not take responsibility , exchange or refund I ordered 4 blond hair dye and they sent me dark chocolate brown They did not send confirmation of order and then sent a fake receipt after the fact with the wrong product , then blocked access to their receipt They co tinier to say I ordered the product !!!! Mat & Max - After I linked to their fake receipt they directed me to this saying I no longer had access - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

GARBAGE company! Total scammers. They'll take your money, and then not ship your item for a solid week at least. When you ask them about it they give you a nothing-response stating info freely available on their site about timelines and whether or not they have the product in stock. If it's not in stock, DON'T SELL IT! Then when you ask for a refund, they'll "generate a shipping label" instantly, and when you can see it hasn't left the warehouse on UPS shipping, if you demand a refund, they'll ignore you for two days, then ship the item, then say "nothing can be done once it's left the warehouse" - SCAMMERS. Horrible customer service, takes FOREVER to ship out an item, and even when they send a damaged product they wont refund you at all. Zero refunds for anything! Ridiculous policies and zero help. Please don't shop here! read more

Terrible. I ordered a Hot Tools hair straightener from Mat & Max and they sent me one with a chip in one of the plates. They refuse to offer me a replacement or a refund. Do not order anything from Mat & Max!! read more

I should have come to this site before ordering from Mat&Max online. My experience was similar to all of the other 1* reviews. This company has glacial speed order processing (4 days?!? in 2026), customer service lacking empathy, and no accountability. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. read more

I had the same experience as many other reviewers here. They sent me a different product than I ordered but for some reason their receipt system matches what they sent me, although I am 100% confident that is not what I ordered. I contacted them and they would not admit it was their error. I feel they are actually fraudulently adjusting orders and then denying that is what they did, since their receipt takes you to a link and so there is no way to prove your claims when you dispute with them. I regret not taking a screenshot of my order when I completed it as I could have used that to prove my claim of their fraud. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY! read more

I have ordered from Mat&Max several times and I am never disappointed. There prices are remarkable as well as there products. I highly recommend them. read more

OMG DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! I ordered 3 items and then only received 2. When I sent an email wondering if it was maybe back ordered or missed their response was they sent it and I was being fraudulent!!!! How insulting this was. For a $39 item which was in an order over $160.00 they actually insinuate you are being fraudulent!!! Terrible, terrible, customer service. I had to give one star to post but I would give this company 0 read more

STOP YOUR ORDERS! PLEASE READ THIS!!!! I ordered three shampoo bottles and they shipped only two and they added a men's fragrance as the shampoo brand. I contacted them and they refused to help and told me they weighed the box according to the contents. Another words their way or highway:( The label on the box says 1lb. I wonder how they think they shipped my order correctly when one item out or three in the box was the fragrance! Much heaviour than the shampoo bottle. They should not be trusted! I see in other's reviews that they did the same thing to them:( Short shipped them. I do not know how they are in business with this manner of customer service. I will not stop in finding more ways to inform public about this awful business's conduct they are offering. read more

Shipment was lost by UPS and Matt & Max has not replaced it over a month later!! Very poor customer service, and deferring the blame as opposed to making the client whole and sorting out the issue with UPS. A classic example of brains coming at a premium!! read more

DO NOT BUY ESP. ONLINE, trust the negative reviews guys. It's all okay until you are the one scorned. Abysmal company with abysmal policies. Claiming to not being able to EXCHANGE a hair product which is SEALED in their original packing still, unopened, due to (get this) 'HYGIENE REASONS'. Um, did you sell me UNDERWEAR? Late shipment, no contact number (for now very obvious reasons). Avoid like the plague. You are better off paying a few dollars extra than dealing with this scam of a business. Unfortunately cannot rate in the negative. Will never be using again. read more

I would give a zero star if that was available I bought a product from them that gave me hives in first use. I've never had hives and am not sen was quite expensive yet they would do nothing read more

I have been purchasing Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lemon Sage Shampoo and Conditioner from them for a few years with no issues. It is one of the few products I can use which was not heavily scented. I recently purchased a large bottle of the conditioner. Word of CAUTION to those allergic to scents. Paul Mitchell changed the product packaging and added so much fragrance I can't use it. Mat & Max's website is deceiving as they show the new packing and a +fragrance picture, but there was no way to know how strong it now smells. Mat & Max will not refund or allow returns, so I am out $50 plus dollars. Will not be ordering from them or the Paul Mitchell brand in the future. read more

If you order online from this store, and UPS delivers to the wrong address this company will not help you. There is no customer service phone number and if you send an email you have to wait up to 3 business days for an email response... unacceptable. This is time wasted for them to file a missing package claim. UPS requires the shipper to initiate a claim for a missing package. I tried to open a claim but the can't do anything till this company actually bothers to respond and resolve the issue. They will be losing me as a customer and this may result in a formal Better Business Bureau complaint and further escalation. Terrible customer service. The true test of a company's customer service level, is what they do when something goes wrong, and how do they fix/resolve the issue. Update: It is now 3 days later and they still did not respond to me - not a word back from their customer service. They still have my money and I have no merchandise. I've had to open a PayPal dispute and have to try and resolve everything on my own. They have lost a customer. Update: It is now 6 days later and they have responded to PayPal regarding my dispute, advising me I will have to pay both the shipping AND restocking fee in order to get any remaining refund from them. They never contacted me as the customer, they never dealt with UPS either, so UPS obtained the package from the incorrect delivery address, and returned to sender as I had to open a UPS claim advising I did not receive the package. UPS's system automatically lists it as a rejected package and it goes back to Mat&Max. They are now telling PayPal that I rejected the package that I never saw or received, and therefore (so they are not out on their costs) I should pay both the shipping AND restocking fee. They have also stated I can only get the remaining refund IF I close the PayPal dispute. They are indicating if I don't agree to their terms and close the dispute, I will get back nothing. Unethical and disgusting behavior from this company. This will be escalating to the Better Business Bureau, the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Protection, and very possibly to Small Claims Court. I will not be bullied by this company. read more

i have not received my paid order that was placed over a month ago,!!! i have sent email and no response back. very very frustrating

So today I received my parcel from this company. It was my first purchase ever. Not that it should matter if it a first time customer or not...... I received only one of the items that I purchased. I contacted the company and was basically accused of lying and that there was nothing they would do. To honor their error let alone admit to it being their fault I've read and shared a lot of other reviews that state that customers are constantly not getting their full order. People work hard for their money. At least I do and I chose to spend it with your company and shame on me I guess. Now I'm out hard earned money because you accuse your customers of lying when you make a mistake. Awesome do not shop here. read more

Parcel was not delivered. I contacted them and they said the address was incomplete so it was sent back to them and they will charge me shipping + 10 % fees. Omg I love this store I will be ordering my hair stuff from here every time I can't believe how fast it came it was here before the tracking delivery date. And the prices are amazing even cheaper than amazon and other stores. And they also gave me free mini bottle as a gift of hair stuff. Everything was sealed and in great shape and looks like it was packed with care not just thrown together. I honestly would give to a 10/10 if I could. read more

Mat & Max - Bleach developer shampoo and conditioner and hair mask - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

Poor customer support. Ordered for a number of years same products in bulk, but when had an issue recently with some of the product was told the policy was anything defective had to be reported within 5 days. When you get a box with 8 cans of hairspray, apparently you have to test everyone of them the day you get them. Seems ridiculous! read more

The worst possible customer service. They sent me the wrong product and refuse to correct their error, insisting it is the "same" product, when it is in fact not. I was denied a return or exchange on MULTIPLE occasions, and instead offered me a pathetic 10% discount code. When I order a product online, I expect to receive the exact same one as pictured and not a "similar version". Disgusting service, will NEVER be spending my money there again when I could get the same products on amazon. I decided to support local businesses instead of shopping big online corporations and I severely regret it. Absolutely shameful and unacceptable. read more

mat & max basically sent me an email after several days of my purchase telling me the item i bought was out of stock, in order to get items as soon as possible i order a new one. after that and also after several days, they only refunded me parcial from first purchase. i wrote them back and several days later they told me that they would not refund me because parcial of that order was available and they are not accept any refunds or returns. well what can i say? shoppers do not purchase from their website, they are messy, they don't reply you ontime, customerservice are not polite. do not trust them! that was the worst service ever! do not purchase because you will have the same problem i am having right now. unbelievable!!!! this is canada i want my money back asap read more

I bought a pureology strength cure shampoo and a conditioner from Mat&Max Canada. The conditioner is perfectly fine the shampoo is clearly expired it smells horrible, is orange instead of pink, and is watery. I notified the company they said it is past the 5 business days after I purchased so they can't help. They also don't guarantee their products last, even though the conditioner I bought the same day is perfectly fine and the shampoo is not. read more

I'm not a girlie girl, but I do care (a lot) about my hair. And it makes me happy to know this place is near by. For me, Matt & Max is my one stop shop for all my hair styling needs. They carry a bunch of different brands, with a wide selection of products. Definitely the most comprehensive store I've seen on the Plateau. They often run specials plus the lady who runs the place is quite knowledgeable and accommodating. So ditch the pharmacy and check this place! read more

A lot of things in life are difficult, particle physics and so on, but in my experience, nothing compares to the pain of trying to do your coloration at home. Of course there are box dyes, but if you want to get serious, you need the real tubed stuff. And now the nightmare begins. Where to find the elusive salon exclusive dyes? In salons? Definitely not, they are for "professional use". Shops won't carry them. Heavens forbid you want to be a blonde, you'll need toner! Aaaah! The more you ask, the less you'll find. What you will encounter though are snarky hairdressers and holier-than-thou salespeople. You want to do your haircolour at home?! AH! In rebellion, you can go to Matandmax. The new shop on St-Denis caused some concerns when it opened: it's chock-full of everything you might need for your DIY hair-projects: from dye, to extensions, to professional salon haircare. I was just dazzled, Matrix, Biolage, and on, and on...They even have permanent unnatural dyes: bright reds, navy blue, purple etc.. so you won't have to blow money on Manic Panic anymore, and your pillow sheets will remain intact. For reference, a tube of dye is around 8$. Very reasonable considering the hassle it is to find one. The sales lady used to be a hairdresser and can instruct you on how to get a new do, step by step! I far as I know that's pretty unheard of. I've noticed a little haircutting booth, so I suppose they are ready to fix a color/cut mess, should worse come to worse. read more

This is a review about their mail web business. They are horrible. First ,they don't send you a regular invoice ,but the invoice with only a number on it, and no description, so you can't check if the order is correct. There is no number to customer service,I am assuming because of hundreds of complaints they are getting. They sent me a complexly different shampoo and conditioner set ,I guess the one that they had in stock ,just to make a sale. When I email them, they sent me back a generated automatically letter with a fine print that shampoos and conditioners are not exchangeable. The set they send me was never opened and had some plastic over the cup but the automatic letters were saying no exchange. They have bad reviews on Reddit. People complain that expensive shampoos are counterfeited, or long out of date. They will not, ever let you return the product even if it is their mistake. Stay away from this company . They are dishonest. read more
