They were a very friendly and helpful mother and daughter. I appreciated whomever contacted me about the ferns and enjoyed my visit with them. They have brown, red and black in color for mulch. You can get a tracker scoop of the mulch for $20. We got 3 scoops to start with, but had to come back for one more scoop. Marlene's has four large greenhouses, each full of different flowers and plants. They also have a bunch of different concrete yard decorations if that's your thing. They've got a variety of vegetable plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. The staff here are friendly. One of my issues is that they accept credit cards but they have a sign on the cash register that states they would rather you use cash or check because the credit card fees are high. I understand that they're small business, but if you take cards, you shouldn't guilt people into not using it. I think they should just stick to cash/check and be done with it. I doubt any of the customers would care.

Jerry Hipp drove us out to where the trees we were interested in were growing. He pointed out those that we were specifically looking for and also some others that he would recommend. He discussed why he thought a particular tree would be good and we decided on one that he marked. It would not be planted until the spring, and it was fall now. I'm sure that's due to their country roots, Indiana charm and small town service!! On a couple of occasions they even called us across country to let us know the folks weren't home and they would try again either that day or the following day. The biggest reason aside from customer service is their beautiful plans and arrangements that they grow right on site. They are undoubtedly the most hearty plants I've ever seen and have lasted my in-laws literally years, with the right care of course. I would highly recommend Jenkins for delivery in Southern Indiana, and if you're ever in the area, they have a lovely gift shop to browse and shop at, as well as getting the opportunity to see they're expansive greenhouses.

But I did check out the hype and the historic part of Santa Claus, Indiana. Besides Holiday World, there are a few must-do places while in town, and the Christmas Store is no exception. This is a very large store as it looks so small on the outside. It is part of a strip-mall, and it has multiple rooms - some of them having a theme. One has several personalized ornaments, another with snowman-themed stuff, one with secular decorations and another with train sets and ornaments. It's a Christmas/holiday lovers heaven, as there is so much to look and buy. Luckily I don't collect any of that stuff but my sister who easily gets in the holiday spirit early would. There's also a fudge/candy/confectionary place inside. There was also a room where kids can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, but it was not in use at the time of my visit. I didn't really buy anything for myself here, but spent a lot on gifts here.

Anyway, my wife, from Ohio some of her life, mentioned that she has seen the sign for this place over the years and never stopped. So retired now, with no place to be on any specific time, I took the exit. It is a few miles off the interstate, but be patient. It is in a neat little plaza, with a few other holiday themed businesses. The store is pretty big, not "massive" ( as in Walmart Supercenter size) but the biggest just Christmas stuff store I have ever been in. It is chocked full of just about anything you might want. The offerings range from artistic to whimsical to WTH was that artist thinking. I don't really have a frame of reference for the prices on stuff. Some things seemed reasonable, and other things quite a bit out of my comfort zone for decorations/tchotchkes. Of course no one needs any of this stuff but it sure is fun to have a place like this for those things you might want.
