When I first contacted Lisa about catering my wedding she was eager to meet with me, sign the contract and get my money. She left me a voicemail, and even started texting me when I didn't get back to her that day.
That was probably the last I heard from her for a few months. I Left her voicemails at her business phone number on 2 separate occasions asking her some important questions that related to our event. No response. I followed up these phone calls with an email. No response. Finally, I decided to contact her via Facebook because she so frequently kept that up to date. Well she got back to my first questions, and then stopped answering those Facebook messages as well. She did, however, make it into my office right away when there was money involved. She even came to my personal residence to pick up her cheques.
Our tasting dinner was completely out of the questions since I could not get a hold of this Lady to save my life! Myself, my groom, and my parents were starting to wondering if she would show up because she was so absent in the weeks leading up to the wedding.
Well, she did show up! Dinner was on time and her staff were friendly towards us. Our experiences with Lisa's staff on the day of the event were good, until we starting hearing some absolutely shocking things after the fact.
We were told that one of the people in the kitchen overheard one of the staff calling the mother of the groom a "B!t*h" or "F*#k!ng B!t*h". Of course we didn't know this until the day after the wedding - NOT impressed.
And that brings me to the food.
We went with the Paella, because it was their "signature dish". So disappointing. The dish contained mussels, and a few people told me that they didn't even eat it because it contained unopened shellfish. I'm not much of a shellfish person but I am told serving unopened shellfish is a big NO-NO. The mussels that were opened had nothing in them like they had been dried out. The "local triple smoked sausage" in the dish were smokies.
I was informed that people did not get roast beef, and that the tray was not filled, yet I was sent home with leftovers. When I asked Lisa about this, she said that she wanted to make sure I had leftovers or I would complain. I told her that was very strange, withholding food so that I would have leftovers when my wedding guests were clearly not satisfied. I hired a caterer to feed my guests, not to take home leftovers.
The "seasonal vegetables" were frozen "Kirkland Signature" vegetables - that were undercooked, plain, and bland. People saw these frozen vegetables being opened, and it was confirmed with a trip to Costco where the exact vegetables can be found in the frozen food section for $7.95 a bag.
Salads were not tossed, the dressing was simply dumped on top. The mixed greens were a tub of Costco spring mix. The "Traditional Greek Salad" didn't have any olives in it.
Potatoes were described as lump and gritty.
I let Lisa know that we were unhappy with our service, and she just said that I was insulting her and that her staff goes to church. She was extremely rude and unprofessional on the phone and would not offer any compensation when I expressed my dissatisfaction with her services. Instead, she told me to pay my bill or she would take me to small claims court. AWESOME. That is sure the right was to treat the customers who keep you in business.
Do your homework before hiring this caterer. You could go to Costco and purchase the same pre-packaged food for a fraction of the price. Or just save yourself the hassle and find someone more reputable. Here are some convenient links that can attest to Lisa's food and (un)professionalism.
PS - I've heard Spice of Life is AMAZING from many, many people and I wish we would have used them for the slight price difference that would have been well worth it!
