There's an art to putting together a top-notch toy store. You have to make sure that there's something uniquely fun and entertaining for all ages and all personality types. Toad Hall perfectly appeals to everyone from the simplest child to the grown up supergeek. It's all beautifully arranged. There's a section on touchy-feely tactile toys. There are stuffed animals and puppets. There are areas of the store dedicated to space aged robotic contraptions. There are places for those who are really into magical ponies. And then there's the absolute best model railroad center within a thousand miles. And although it is large without being overwhelming, It's still extremely difficult to browse here without being compelled to buy something. And it's extremely difficult to make that selection... there's just too much amazing. This place is like an extremely well curated FAO Schwartz... every toy is hand selected for it's uniqueness, creative strength and pure fun. Bernie was the closing manager.. we were…read moreshopping for my son's first birthday and we found a really nice toy but it was on reduced price. so we wanted to make sure that everything was working and nothing was wrong with the toy before we pay as cashier mentioned that you cannot bring the toy back once paid.. we asked the cashier Franklin who was trying to help us but then this manager Bernie came in and interrupted the cashier and said no need to open the product.. we explained her that we are gonna buy it but just want to be sure as it was our son's birthday.. but she was so rude and wanted us to be out of the store as only 5 mins were left to close. but there were still 5 mins and if the product was completely okay and we were willing to buy it why would you not let us open the product. after being so rude she just went inside shaking her head to show us that we are just acting stupid and did not even try to solve the problem. we still bought the product and when we opened it at home one of the tire fell off and we could not fix it.. all thanks to Bernie for ruining our son's first birthday gift...

When it was time to pay, the owner increased the price by $5.75. The customer complained and said that wasn't the deal. The proprietor then lost his temper and literally yelled at the table where the game was being played, "Everyone pack up the game and get out!" On top of having to pay for the girl who was teaching the group how to play, she was excellent by the way and probably should go look for a job elsewhere, each player also payed a $10 fee to sit at his table and purchased junk food, drinks. He may have had a bad day or was just an ill tempered man. However, no proprietor should ever treat his customers this way. First time I've witnessed such behaviour.

Everything inside out still look and feel the same, from the entrance to the giraffe mascot, I was a bit skeptical because I walked the entire store but all I found was cars, dinosaurs and baby dolls; then something hit me, on the left corner is the big holy grail, all the collectibles from Neca, Dcs, Mattel, Hasbro, etc they had them all with just a little more careful display, empty boxes without any figures inside because you know thieves, I think that is quite smart, the thing I still don't like about TRU is their prices, it's more expensive than any other places like Target or Walmart, but they used to have a points program, just not apply to this anymore, since you can buy everything online and price match at Target for a better deal. Anyway I'm just glad TRU stood still against time, not often that you get to feel nostalgia in a long time. Well, Canada you did something right, you saved Toys R Us.

Both are still there, but are under the Indigo name. The one store at Polo Festival in St. James, which used to be steps away from the old Winnipeg Stadium, was one of my favourites. The other was this store in St. Vital Centre. It's an Indigo now. It still has that cozy feel of taking a few books, finding a cozy place to sit down and reading parts of them before deciding whether I wanted to commit to buying them. It also has a Starbucks cafe in the store. Back then, I rarely bought anything there. I can see myself doing it now, especially spending time on my phone and using the free wifi offered in the store. This bookstore is right outside the food court. You technically can grab a drink and food if nothing at Starbucks interests you. I came here to browse. I also wanted to see if I could get a gift and a birthday card for my friend. There was a plushie sale. I didn't get any, but the plushies were cute. This store always features books by Manitobans. One book, mmm... Manitoba, caught my attention. I didn't get it, but it's a book that I'd like to read and possibly buy. It shares stories about the foods that Manitobans eat. I will need to revisit it. I did find a card for my friend. I spent a while finding the perfect card for her. The card selection at Indigo never disappoints. However, some cards can be expensive. I found one going for $19. Yikes! I like the sales items. I saw mugs, reading socks, and more that were all discounted. I got a gift and a birthday card for my friend from this store. I went to pay for it and chatted with a friendly woman at the checkout. I got my Indigo rewards barcode scanned. I then paid for my items with a credit card. All was great. The woman asked if I needed a bag. My items were so small that they fit in my existing bag. I thanked her and left. Although I didn't spend as much time in this store as I used to when I lived in this city, it still felt cozy and familiar. I still love this store. I'm happy that it's still around. (312)
