We made a very poor decision to engage Masterdecks for our project. Their price came in at approximately 70% higher than our budget. We paid up front for the drawings with the opportunity to modify the plans to our needs. We decided to go with another builder and discovered that the septic field was missed in the drawings. Therefore, the deck needs to be redrawn. We canceled Masterdecks but never received a refund for the unused amount Of funds we paid up front. We have called twice and never received a return call. Very bad experience and we do not recommend them for any project. read more

We needed our old wood front deck replaced. We chose Masterdeck and it was a great experience. Quality build completed on schedule. The deck and railing are really absolutely AWESOME!!! The colors and material are great! Ryan was our over-all coordinator and great at keeping us informed on our project, including scheduling, invoices and required changes. He was always our first point of contact for questions and very quick to respond. He was a really helpful person to work with. Mario was our field manager. He handled pre- and post-construction walk-throughs, including working with us on installation details and where all the materials would be staged. He was very clear on directions for us and for the deck builder. He was fabulous! Brett constructed our deck and stair railing. Because this was a small project, Masterdeck used a trusted partner, who was Brett for our project. We were so lucky! He's truly a master craftsman. His attention to detail and construction was fabulous! So many finishing touches that really make this deck perfect (example: finished corners so there no deck ends showing). Never any chaos, no rework and he answered all our questions. We really appreciated him and his skills so much. Having Brett do the work gave us confidence that we now have a high quality and beautiful deck that we can enjoy for years. He made this whole experience for us far less stressful. MasterDecks did a fantastic job building a patio and a freestanding deck on it for us. It required removal of many large concrete slabs, which they broke up with a jackhammer and carried out by hand because we have poor access to our backyard. We are so happy with the result and the process. Ryan, Casey, Mario, and Christian were great to work with and let us know what was happening each step of the way. I highly recommend them. Masterdecks just finished the re-build of my two decks, and I'm really pleased not just with the results, but the whole process. We were within 15% of their original budget, and this covers some discoveries during the process of building. The teams were as follows: The framing crew was Jake, Zolen, Eli and Daniel: friendly, professional, and fast. High quality work and Jake was kind enough to lend me his expertise to fix a sticking door that led out to one of the decks. The railing crew was David, Josh: again, fast, friendly and professional. The new glass railings looked superb and both of them were careful not to make a mess as these were installed. The undercover crew was Martin, Joshua, Nick: all done in two days, and I was really impressed with their attention to detail and willingness to get it done correctly, even going so far as to adjust one drain line twice, to my satisfaction. Guys, I'm sorry my driveway was so long and was such a pain! The managers Ryan, Mario, Quinn: every one provided up-to-date and timely reminders. The buildertrend software that Masterdecks uses really gives the customer a good insight into what's happening and when. It is a more professional overlay to the project than the usual "system" provided by many contractors in the home market (ie "make it up as you go") Masterdecks did a great job. I have only two areas in which to suggest improvement: 1. They should offer some sort of covering for the top of their decks that lets water through but holds pine needles (very common here!) back. Many of the needles will fall through the decking into the water drains, potentially blocking them. Although you can let down their panels beneath to clean them, realistically, I don't think many owners will until it's "too late" 2. I was surprised that they had difficulty in sourcing the panels quickly. They worked it out for me in the end, but the glass railings - which come from Canada, necessitating customs, etc. - came faster than MasterDecks' proprietary undercover panels. As I say - they DID work it out for me in the end, and I got the whole project done in three months, and within 15% of the original estimate. Mario, Ryan, Tyson, Heath, and Greg were exceptional to work with - from our initial discussions to the final walk through they answered all of my questions, provided timely updates (my project took about 5 months to complete), top quality work with attention to detail, and professional during all interactions. I did my research before hiring them and they delivered exceptional work. Worth every penny. They rebuilt my front entryway deck/stairs/railing/skirt, a large main floor deck/stairs/railing, bottom basement deck/stairs/railing and all areas had lights installed on the stairs and embedded lighting on the outer edge of my main deck. MasterDecks = The United Airlines of builders? We chose to work with Master Decks because they projected a somewhat refined service image compared to other contractors we interviewed. We met with multiple builders who could have created a quality deck for less money, but we wanted more than a deck. We wanted good communication and trustworthy billing. We wanted a low-stress, no hassle experience, and we were willing to pay a premium to get it. So we chose the priciest bid, because we believed Master Decks would deliver better service. In the end, we did not get what we paid for. One of the biggest selling points for us was that Master Decks offered online account management. We loved the idea of a project dashboard where we could track and monitor the work, and pay our invoices in a worry-free, automated, and fully transparent environment. Pretty cool, right? No, as it turns out. Not quite cool at all. What we didn't realize at the time, or at any point during the many weeks we used the Master Decks system, was that they were charging us incorrectly. Each week a new invoice arrived and we paid it in full, immediately upon receipt. When I say "immediately" I mean it literally. Within minutes of a new invoice posting in the Master Decks app, we paid it, down to a zero balance. Every. Single. Time. It's not like we were gunning for a Best in Client Behavior award. We were just following stipulations in the Master Decks contract, which says that work halts immediately if an invoice isn't paid in full, upon receipt. That seemed fair to us, so we fell in line. And as a result of our prompt and complete payments, work continued uninterrupted until the deck was done. That should be the end of the story, but it's not. More than a quarter of a year after they finished the work at our house, Master Decks resurfaced to say they'd discovered problems in their billing system, which meant multiple accounts had been charged incorrectly, including ours. They needed us to give them five grand to make this problem right. Wait, what? Listen. We'd prided ourselves on being A+ clients. We weren't the biggest spenders, but we tried to do everything by the letter and make the experience as pleasant for the crew as possible. Wanna blast loud music on a bluetooth speaker? Feel free. Have ideas or suggestions that might make this process easier/better? Let's hear them. Want your money the minute you post an invoice? You got it. There's a weird kind of anger that comes up when you think you've done everything right, and then are told otherwise. Being "past due" on payments doesn't feel good. It feels like a failure. Outside of a passing acknowledgement that their system was glitchy, there was no formal accountability on Master Decks' part, no attempt to amend the problem or alleviate the stress caused by their mistake. We didn't expect trophies for being World Class Clients, but we definitely didn't deserve an email from owner Robert Greaves, with an ALL CAPS SUBJECT LINE, threatening to put a lien on our home. (Wanna see for yourself? DM me..) So, basically, the owner of Master Decks handled this debacle like a DBag with less empathy than you'd expect from an underpaid DMV employee. It's like they borrowed the customer-service handbook straight from United Airlines, a company notorious for creating problems, then exacerbating the stress they cause by gaslighting their customers. My advice to anyone working with Master Decks: Micromanage the process, implement your own system of checks and balances, and don't trust their billing. But hey... You could do the same thing with an amateur builder and spend a lot less money for the privilege. read more

Nearly finished with a project with master decks and they have been incredible. Everyone is nice and very professional and the work is such high quality. Called to schedule an estimate for a new deck. It took them 4 months to get back to me after they came out. In the response they didn't give me an estimate, they just tried to sell me their "home improvement plan" to save me money. They have emailed and called multiple times trying to sell me the plan. Poor experience. Estimator was unprepared to measure the footprint of the deck. pushed to increase scope of work that i did not request. Per estimator adding scope was to reduce cost. visit ended when estimator asked a few times how much did i want to spend. I provided the scope and material i was looking for in decking and railing. my reply is it is my job to select the contractor and his job to provide an estimate. estimator also questioned why i had five estimates and what i did not like about the others. his being the fifth. Estimator's response was he was trying to determine if the project is right for the company. From my perspective it is not the contractor's concern how many estimates i have, the quality of estimates, or the cost of the other estimates. From other reviewers on yelp the company does good work but they will not be awarded this deck work. read more

Great experience with the folks from Masterdecks, including carpenter extraordinaire Rod Walls and Ryan Quinn, the PM. They were professional, skilled, on-time, safety conscious (including Covid masks) and did excellent work! We are very satisfied with the rebuild of our deck. Ryan and Rod also did a great job of communicating and asking for our input when appropriate. Cristian and Joseph from the Railing Crew (ResCom) were also professional, skilled, and did great work installing the new deck railing and banisters. When the work was complete, the site was well-cleaned and Ryan stopped by to QC the work and make sure we had no last issues or questions. Had a good experience working with all the folks at MasterDecks. These guys aren't the cheapest ... but you get what you pay for. They are skilled carpenters and have incredible attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship. Masterdecks resurfaced my deck with Azek...just under 800 sq. ft. with stairs. I was a bit surprised initially when I heard how long they planned to take to get the job done (particularly compared to bids from GCs and landscapers). But once I saw them in action, it made a ton of sense why. Sure, they could've skipped a bunch of steps and gotten the projected whipped out in a few days, but wow. From beefing up framing, planing to get a level deck, ripping out and redoing flashing that previous GC had improperly installed, even redoing two posts that had heaved due to tree roots. They worked efficiently, but with great attention to detail ... end result is my deck is rock solid when compared to previous. Add on top of that, I was super impressed with the math/geometry they had to get perfect to line up perfect miters and border strips...working around the imperfect existing framing to make sure things looked symmetrical. Ultimately, beautiful deck. I worked with Ryan Bowker as my lead carpenter. He communicated proactively during build and provided great end-of-day summaries with pictures. He walked me through design tradeoffs throughout and had great recommendations. He worked around my vacation and came back afterwards to deal with my short punchlist. Really enjoyed working with him + crew. Phase 2 is new railing, and phase 3 under deck soffit! read more

There are only two companies in the western Washington area that we felt comfortable building a deck for our house. We wanted a beautiful deck that would not compromise the ability of our house to resist the weather (it's western Washington). I am glad we choose MasterDecks. They really came through with their lineup of integrated products (deck, railing, rain proofing system). This is not a one person company, it is a legitimate organization of coordinated activity. From the first meeting on our deck project until completion Masterdecks met or exceeded our expectations in all regards. They are a premier company providing an excellent experience and a high-quality build/result. Each associate was highly professional, courteous, and always put our interests and satisfaction first and foremost. Their use of the Buildertrend online project management tool is outstanding. In it all aspects of the project are tracked and updated daily. The schedule, finances, daily updates, messaging to/from everyone, and other things are easily accessed. Communication is continuous so we knew exactly what was happening at all times. Once they started the project, Masterdecks worked on it every day until it was done. In our initial meetings with Dave, he listened to what we had in mind and this resulted in detailed drawings for our approval and modification to make sure everyone knew exactly what was desired and expected. Every question was asked and answered for and by us. Masterdecks handled all the permitting and inspection tasks. Ryan then took the handoff and came out to meet with us and review everything again and initiate the actual construction process. Throughout this time as well as during the entire project Jessie kept us fully up to date via Buildertrend on the timing of all the different aspects of the building process. Tyson and his apprentice, Heath, did the actual construction. Tyson's attention to detail and craftsmanship was stellar and he maintained a clean, organized, low impact worksite. He built us a beautiful deck that was exactly what we envisioned. When day to day decisions had to be made, he explained the choices clearly and provided not only pros and cons, but also his recommendations based on his knowledge and experience. Tyson was awesome and very enjoyable to work with. We were fortunate to have him as our lead builder. During any project issues invariably come up, including some things that did not exactly meet our expectations. Tyson's response was always the same to any request, "of course, I can make that happen." And, best of all, he did in all regards. Initially we talked with several builders and got bids, however, it was clear from the outset that Masterdecks was the most professional and instilled the most confidence and belief that the overall process would be smooth and painless for us. It was! Masterdecks is competitively priced when you factor in all the things that they actually do, but they are not the cheapest in an absolute sense. Having said that, you always get what you pay for and any premium they get is well worth it in our estimation. As you might expect, particularly in today's environment, they are very busy and there is a queue. We waited months from the time we signed the contract until our project came up on their schedule and could actually begin. Moral of that story is that you must adjust your plans and expectations accordingly if you want to engage them. They do good work. Hank the lead carpenter was excellent as was Edmin the rail installer. Both are very skilled. I'm picky and they worked around issues with my existing frame that wasn't perfect. They are very expensive but do good work. If money isn't your biggest concern the project will be done right. I was a little concerned from the start with the tele marketer like sales pitch from the owner. Far too many slides with a lot of useless information that was supposed to impress you. The only reason I went any farther was a glowing review from one of my partners. A major pain is their online billing system on their website. I paid all invoices within a day of receipt but twice the website gave me credit for less than I paid. Also the tax is not included in the calculations but appeared to be calculated on 2 of the payments. This seems like such a basic concept that it would not be worth the ongoing hassles and complaints to keep this system. My advice is to know your total cost, add the 10.1% tax and pay only that. Ryan and his team (Nikita) built a large back deck for us and we couldn't be happier with the end result. Ryan kept us informed of his progress every day and was quick to ask for our input on design decisions while also guiding us with his expertise. His craftsmanship was impeccable, with many complicated corners and designs within the deck itself that multiple people have commented on. Ryan was always respectful of our property (even cleaned up before leaving each day!), showed up to work on time and worked into the evening right before Christmas. We were also very impressed that Ryan and Nikita took all Covid precautions, took their temperature multiple times a day and wore masks while working. When the project was complete, Ryan walked us through the build and left us with extra supplies and his phone number in case we needed anything in the future. I have been in the construction industry for 30 years. I have a degree in construction management. I am extremely picky and hold high standards for the work I do not do myself. I recently had the extreme pleasure to have Masterdecks come to my complete remodel and complete my two decks. Both had complications and one was 13 feet high. Ryan from Masterdecks handled everything. He hit every single time sensitive obstacle. So much more, in my 30 years of interaction with hired subcontractors, I have never met a nicer and more professional worker than Ryan. And his representation of his company Masterdecks. I was treated so well and his craftsmanship was so beyond industry standard, that I wanted to pay more for the project.. He took time to get to know me, and everything was a heartfelt please and thank you. His attention to detail made me jealous and cleanup made me feel guilty. On his last day he gave me a gift for crabbing,.. that's right, he heard me talking crabbing that up coming weekend, and gave me crab bait. I for the rest of my life recommend Masterdecks and specifically Ryan.. I could go on and on. Best company I have ever worked with. Better catch him soon,.. that man is going places... We just finished our wood deck project with Master Decks LLC. We highly recommend this company. First, we found them on google search. They had high rating on google, so we called them. They responded right back the next day, and we scheduled a sales person visit. Cary, our sales person was so helpful and knowledgeable. He assisted us making the right decisions on layout, materials, and price. After we had a zoom meeting with him, we were fortunate to have our deck started. Our deck dimension is 14 by 12. We added 8 feet stairs on the side. Also, we chose to build a bench as a part of railing. Our railing is black and white. Secondly, we absolutely loved the construction team. Ryan, the supervisor came to discuss before the construction. The job was done mainly by Justin Kirby. We had his assistant Justin as well. Their work ethic was excellent as well as their work. Mr. Kirby is skillful and took time to explain and answer all the questions to my husband and myself. They were very pleasant to be around. The construction took them about a week. Throughout the process, their professional manner gave me sense of peace and that was priceless. Finally, we appreciate our dream wood deck everyday with our morning coffee.
