Incredibly unprofessional, terrible service. My husband brought her a tuxedo jacket and a vest to be altered. THe alterations were fine, although the buckle she put on the back of the vest did not match the buttons on the front (she did not apologize, and said he wouldn't notice - he did.). I called to arrange a pick-up time, since she works out of her home, and she met me in her bathrobe. Awkward. At my husband's insistence, I brought her a silk dress he'd bought me several years ago, to have it altered to wear to his sister's wedding, which was Labor Day weekend. I brought her the dress a month in advance, and she assured me it would be ready in time, and asked for a $55 deposit. The day I was scheduled to pick it up, she called to say it was not ready, and did I have a back-up plan? (I did, thankfully.) Three weeks later, I had not heard back regarding my dress. I called her, telling her I was disappointed I hadn't heard from her, and inquiring about my dress. She said she couldn't even start on it, because she didn't have the part for her sewing machine (one might wonder, now, why did she take the job, if she didn't even have the equipment to complete it?). I told her I'd be coming by to pick up my dress, and my $55. When I came to pick up my dress, she was rude and unapologetic, and scribbled out a personal check wiht my refund. The dress was pinned in exactly the same manner I left it - two months in her shop, and she hadn't even started on it. I will never go back, and will actively discourage others from using this business. Really unfortunate, since I really believe in supporting small, local businesses. read more

1 star? If yelp let you rate a business with a negative star master tailor would be a -5. I dropped a jacket off and she required a 40 deposit. A month later I call... jacket hasn't been TOUCHED. I go to pick up it and she only refunds me 20 stating there's a fee for "taking up her time"... WHAT TIME? The time my jacket spent collecting dust in your house? I told her I wasn't going to leave without all my money and she called the cops. Literally the WORST customer service I've ever encountered in my entire life. And apparently I'm not the only one that thinks so. I contacted the better business bureau and she has had 5 complaints in the last 3 years... and that's saying a lot considering most ppl won't even bother contacting them. In conclusion.... to miss master tailor.... I hope you learn how to run a business professionally. In the mean time, I hope you don't get any more business. this is not a professional tailor. this is a one person show operating out of a personal home. imagine a bridesmaids dress fitted incorrectly where YOU have to tell her where to pin the seams, stained with the tailor's blood drops, with refusal to say when the job would be completed or how much it would cost. when requested the job be done within one month, master tailor said no, it would take two months, essentially the week before the wedding. finally master tailor would agree to 1.5 months. master tailor also required a 20 dollar deposit fee. thats fine. a day passes by. contact the master tailor for info on whether the blood has been cleaned. it has not. ask for estimated time of completion. she says, "ive never had such a difficult customer before!" therefore, ask for the dress back and forget the job. master tailor says, come get the dress. what time do you close? master tailor says, just come get the dress right now before i leave. i will wait one hour. arrive to master tailor's house and find the bridesmaid dress hanging on the door knocker outside in the middle of winter with a bill for the 20 dollars she took at the beginning as a "deposit", now listed as a consultation fee. her car was still in the driveway and we saw a person look thru the window while we reclaimed the dress. real professional. see review to come for the next tailor we went to which had the dress altered in one week, for a cheap price, at a professional bridal clothing, accessory, and tailor shop. read more

Possibly one of the best tailoring experiences I've ever had - and I'm short so I have to use them a lot! Val volunteered to work on a Saturday so my dress would be ready for a convention on Monday. In less than an hour, she made both my $100 dresses look like $300 dresses and I felt like a million! This tailor just makes it FIT! I'll be be back for every service I need in the future. read more

I wish I would have read these reviews BEFORE I took my dress to this place. I met the master tailor a few times through social outings, so I thought that I would give her my business. She is by no means the only tailor in Rapid City as she claims. I just felt that she would treat me well as a customer, boy was I wrong. I brought her a bridesmaid dress to be altered at the end of May for a wedding on July 7. She wanted $40 for a deposit and that the total would be $60 and that I could pick it up on 6/20. Two days before it was supposed to be picked up, she called and said that she had not even started on the dress and wanted to know when the wedding was. I told her the wedding was on 7/7. Then she stated that the price was now $100 and that she would have it done in a couple weeks. I tried contacting the master tailor two weeks later with no answer. I did leave a few messages asking her to please call me back. She did not return any of my calls until 3 days before the wedding. I felt this was very unprofessional for a business owner. She stated that she was not a secretary and that she shouldn't have to answer her phone (yet again, do I need to say UNPROFESSIONAL). I needed the dress so I set up a time to pick it up for the evening before the wedding. When I showed up to get my dress she said that I owed her an extra $50 for unforseen complications for a total of $150 alterations for a $60 dress. I told her that I wanted to try it on before I left and she said there was no need because it would fit me just fine. I said I know but the wedding is tomorrow and need it to fit right. I think this master tailor needs some business and ethics lessons. She certainly is UNPROFESSIONAL. Absolute worst service I've ever had by ANYONE. ruined my dress, therefore ruined my entire event. Overpriced. DO NOT use this tailor!! My husband took 2 suits in to get it taken in, she gave him a price of 300 and said it would be ready in 2weeks. It wasn't ready in 2 weeks it actually took her a month and didn't do anything with the suit except for 2 pants that he took in a week prior to that. i must agree with jennifer f.'s review. the woman (valerie) who runs this business is, quite possibly, one of the most unprofessional people i've ever encountered. my experience with her began on december 31st, 2016 when i dtopped off a favorite t-shirt to her that had 3 holes in it in the front for repair. i didnt expect it to be done the following day, or even in the next few days, what with the new year's holiday coming. after paying $15.00 for her "service", i left. the following week, after not hearing from her by thursday, i decided to call her. and so began the quest to retrieve my shirt. more likely than not (95% chance i'd say) when you call her, you'll get her answering machine; "leave your number, and ill promptly return the call, " she says. dont believe it. you've got a better chance of winning the lottery. 40 unreturned phone calls and 3 weeks later, i pondered what to do. should i actually call the police? today, saturday, january 21, i decided to give it one last try. lo and behold, she answered! "o yeah, its ready, " she says. "when can you be here?" without a touch of remorse for keeping me waiting for 3 weeks . after zooming to her shop/house to pickup my favorite t-shirt (which she said i would love the repairs to), she answerexld the door. in the most insincere voice possible, she said "oh sorry it took so long, sometimes i disappear for 2 weeks." she then handed me my shirt, which i examined in my vehicle. the most cursory examination revealed that she had patched the biggest hole of the 3; the other 2 still remained. i would've marched back in and thrown it back at her to fix, but i might not have gotten it back before summer. let me be plain: IF YOU PATRONIZE THIS WOMAN, YOU'RE A FOOL. I never write reviews, but out of social justice I am writing this one. This really was the most unprofessional and appalling business transaction of my life. The owner barks at you when you call to inquire about your items which are long overdue. Her quality of work was heavily criticized when I took it to another tailor. She took a year and a half to repair the item we took in. The worst and final offense was being presented with a bill over $600 for work we did not approve of, nor would we have approved of as the work was 3 times the amount of the item we took in! She then tells us to make her an offer of what feels fair. We consult 3 other tailors, and based on their feedback decide to offer her $60 which is double the amount that all 3 tailors quoted us for. Which we did after waiting a year and a half. Even though she tells us to make an offer that we think is fair and we do, she proceeds to call us at work to complain about the offer. She employs guilt and victimization tactics and attempts to guilt you into taking responsibility for her choices. She tries to make it your problem that you don't want to pay for things you never wanted done or agreed to in the beginning! Shame on her. I wish her the best as a fellow human being, but hope she can figure that out without manipulating and scheming people. You know what responsible, good people do when they need more money? They make hard choices. They get additional employment, they sell assets, they humble themselves and ask for help from loved ones or if desperate from assistance programs. You know what they don't do? Manipulate, scheme, bully, and harass people. How would you like someone to do the same thing to you? You take in an item for one repair, they take it upon themselves to do all these other repairs, they present you with the most insane bill, and then when you tell them no thanks for the extra work they call you at work to complain. Is that how you want to be treated? Seriously, shame on you! Thats holding people hostage, its extortion, its stealing from them. The behavior is the most disgusting I've dealt with in awhile and no amount of flowery talk about gratitude and grace and grit erases that. Its still ugly wrapped up in nice sounding language. I hope she grows while she still can. She should know better and choose better at this stage of life!
