Caused my working furnace to fail, the house froze, leaking pipes and they refused to make the repairs that they caused. On October 22 2025 I had Master Services perform an annual service on my Carrier furnace. The furnace was working well with no issues but I wanted to do the annual service as recommended. Morgan the technician poked around but I did not see any of the standard procedures done like I am used to seeing from other providers. There was a tremendous sales pitch pressure from the tech spending more time on how I can purchase a new furnace from their company, even though our furnace served us well and was in excellent condition. I paid the bill and he left. Oct 24 2026 just two days after service The furnace failed to start and we were in cold weather for several hours. So I called the company back asking why the furnace is having this problem right after the tech worked on it. Morgan came back and blamed it on a blown 3A purple fuse which never happened before. He said he did not have a fuse in his truck, luckily I had 3 of those in my fuse kit in my truck so I gave him my fuses, he started switching wires around burning 2 more of my fuses and finally he got the wiring right and the 3rd and last fuse worked and the furnace started to work. He did not seem sure of what is happening or what else to check for. We had to make a trip out of state to visit family but we always leave the heat on in cold weather just to be safe and we turn the main water valve off and drain the pipes. Jan 28 2026 We returned to the house to find there was no heat in the house and the toilet tank and bowl had blocks of ice in them. The bathroom sink trap was cracked from ice and the shower valve was busted along with the kitchen sink not draining. A pipe also sprung a leak in the basement. There was also a strong natural gas odor in the house. We called again and they sent another tech Mitch who showed up with three space heaters to thaw the house plumbing out but could not get furnace started he also confirmed the gas smell to be present he said the gas coupling inside the furnace was not tightened enough from when they did the first service. He did not bother to check the ignitor but did after I asked him to check it. He said the ignitor is bad and he will call me back the next day with a price as he claimed did not have a replacement ignitor in his truck and he estimated the price would be around $600 a part that cost under $30 He left us with no heat and a gas leak while I slept in the house in the extreme cold snap in January I could have died from both the cold and the gas leak. Jan 29 2026 Mitch never called back to come replace the ignitor. I gave up and had to call ANOTHER company to get our heat working. They came over and figured the problem in 5 minutes replaced the ignitor and tightened the gas coupling which was left loose by two technicians from Master Services. My bill was $357.44 and our furnace is working well since till the writing of this review March 23 2026. Jan 30 2026 Plumber Eric from Master services came over replaced the frozen sink trap that they caused to fail from freezing and charged me $154.83 He also gave an estimate of $1700 to replace the leaky pipe that they caused to freeze up due to low quality work. I refused to do this and feel they must take responsibility and fix what they broke. I had to replace the shower valve myself and get the kitchen sink flowing again. Several phone conversation with manager Juan did not help as he insisted they have to charge me for pipe repairs that would have never happened if they did not cause the freeze. My pipe is still dripping and they totally ignored the problem. I see that a Mr. Kyle Burroughs listed as general manager on the better business bureau website so Mr. Burroughs if you are reading this Please intervene to rectify this problem. You can get my contact information from your service department records. All I need now is you send a plumber to replace the pipe section that is leaking so we can put this nightmare behind us. I have lost faith and discontinued service. I was hit with a bill that had a 997% markup. When I communicated my concern to the technician, I got a "YEP" that was for me to install it. After a $12,000.00 furnace and AC installation, I have a few more comments about this company. They like to play games : Lying about need for a service contract for your warranty to be valid, committed several acts of vandalism on new equipment (take the sides of compressor condenser unit for the purpose of smashing aluminum fins, scratching and denting furnace and AC unit. Left extremely rusty flue vent pipes in place allowing enormous amounts of rust to slide on 45 deg. angle towards new furnace. Did not replace rusty vent flue vent pipes after a request to do so. Created a force fit of a gas pipe against a hot water tank and furnace flue pipe. According to the fire chief this is a not good thing. Jack refused to correct the dangerous condition. The plenum had numerous leaks caused by an incomplete job. Jack, when visiting after the installation, thought it would be cute to donate a $2 rag to resolve all issues. He also thought it would be cute to check on the unit by himself, and proceed to remove the furnace font cover scratch a downward slope scratch line in the cover. When the cover was re-attached 1 of the 3 screws that attach it to the furnace was affixed before the cover was re-attached, causing a slop fit and enormous air leak. When the installers arrived for the job they proceeded to try to install a cheaper furnace unit than what was originally agreed to. Spoke of 14 seer AC unit in quote, research showed unit was 13.4 seer. Had to re-quote the job with different AC hardware, at higher price. Jack thinks windows are extremely important factor in determining ton size of you AC unit and will snoop around every room and pretend to be a mathematician to determine what equipment is best for him, not you the customer. Master Services tried to set us up with 2.5 ton AC unit when the previous old unit was 4 ton. Jack thew enormous arrogant fit about how he is a profession and knows what is right for his customer. This company is one of the worst. I actually had to go to the Town Of Geneva Police, and will soon make a formal written complaint regarding "unfair business practices" and vandalism. There is anther an aspect of this saga that is being investigated by the Chicago Police involving a silver SUV. (this happened about the time of AC and furnace installation, it was in issue that showed up on Chicago-land news channels). Stay far away from this company, they are very, very, very bad. Go with a more reputable establishment. If you have a service contract with this company cancel it immediately. read more

Was hesitant even scheduling service with the "small service fee of $129" they charge just to come out and take a look. I should have listened to my gut. No wonder they charge the service fee, or they wouldn't have any business. I have a small leak in my refrigerator water supply line and they quoted me just shy of $300 for that (which includes the $129 service fee). Frankly too expensive for the less than 45 mins worth of work, but the $129 is non refundable. Then I asked them to look at my gas line for my new stove that was slightly leaking and they quoted me $500 to hook up a new gas line. When I asked the tech why it costs that much, he has no answer besides "that's just how much it costs". The tech had no personality, came across rude, and took a personal call on the job. Horrible service and frankly a rip off. I will never use or recommend them. read more

Requested service of older AC unit. I was comparing fix old vs buy new and asked for new unit pricing. He couldn't provide that to me without another tech "house assessment". I said ballpark to replace with the size I have...no he couldn't give me a range even. But asked me what I "thought it should be". I already did research so knew but this game was insulting. He went through some service old calculation on his phone that was inaccurate and truly a waste of time exercise. I was told he needed to speak with my husband. I said I was the "handyman of the house" and he was not home anyway. I was informed this would be a major expense so he would need to speak to my husband either live or on speakerphone. I said I handled all house maintenance so let's discuss. The conversation was surreal like I was thrown back into a Leave it to Beaver episode. This is 2022. I don't need permission or approval to spend $ and do not appreciate the condescending context period. Master Services lost my business due to a dishonest employee after a recent repair. Be careful when you use them. I am disappointed that they lost a good customer because of one person. They have some great employees but one person can ruin your reputation. Update: The General Manager followed up with me on this issue and assured me this will not happen again. He took responsibility for their mistake and they sent someone out to test my AC to ensure no damage occurred. They will stand by their work and apologized for the issues. I appreciate the follow up. The furnace in my rental home in Lake Geneva went out and I called Master Services. The technician that they sent out told me that there was a cracked part in the furnace and that he would have to turn off the furnace because it could leak carbon monoxide. He then proceeded to show the tenant a picture of the cracked part. Unknown to the technician, she forwarded that picture to me. Later in the day, the head of the furnace sales called me to tell me I needed to buy a new furnace and quoted $7,000 for a good one. I was beginning to doubt all this and called another company for a second opinion. They came out the next morning, could find no crack in the part that Master Services did, fixed the furnace, and saved me thousands of dollars. Specifically, this review is a two-for one, both for Ed La Barre and Thomas McGrath who were both my latest technicians for separate calls. Ed came out to inspect and service my water heater, and while his efforts to repair the equipment I had weren't successful, he also canceled the usual charges for his labor on that call immediately, which was appreciated. Thomas came out for my club member service and inspection of my furnace, which of course cost me nothing since it's covered by membership dues and absolutely pays for itself very quickly. In both cases, these guys were polite, knowledgeable, and efficient. Absolutely top marks for both of them. read more

I called Master Services to repair a cracked section of copper pipe and a shutoff valve. When directory assistance only had one listing for a plumber in Lake Geneva, I called them--Master Services. Their staff is VERY friendly and prompt, and both the plumbers I met were competent with the repairs (one was from an earlier water softener installation). So why the two star rating? They don't charge by the hour. Instead, they go by their "Straight Forward Pricing" guide. First, you pay $89 for someone to come out and give you an estimate. Each minor repair gets listed on a scale from 1 to 10. It's not clear what these numbers mean, but the higher the number, the higher the cost. The plumber that came out quoted me around $450 in addition to the $89 service call charge for the repair. He made it sound like he was giving me a deal because both of the charges were going on one one number (remember the 1 through 10 scale) instead of two separate charges. Remember, we're only talking about replacing one section of pipe and a shutoff valve. I agreed because I really needed this repaired, and they seemed to be the only game in town. That was 10 am. The plumber said he would call back when he finished. At 11:15 am, he called back for payment. $540 for an an hour and fifteen minutes worth of work. I told him that I hired a reputable plumber for 10 hours and that cost me $1,000 at a different house. Here's what that company, Glenbrook Plumbing in IL, did for that cost: 1) re-plumb a kitchen sink that I moved over three feet, 2) replace a pipe to a water softener, 3) repair a leak in a tub, 4) install six new shutoffs at various locations, 5) plumb a bathroom sink, 6) install a reverse osmosis, and 7) hook up water to a dishwasher and refrigerator. After my protest, the Master Services plumber dropped the price to $350--still outrageous for an hour and a half of work. For me, "Straight Forward Pricing" would mean $89 for the first half-hour and $25 for each quarter hour like Glenbrook charges--still a respectable $100+ an hour. read more

Our basement started flooding Tuesday night. My husband and I were freaking out and called Master Services. Candy answered and was very helpful and calm. She got in touch with a plumber and sent them out immediately. (This happened at 8:30 at night). Jeff called and let us know that he was on his way, and was VERY helpful. He explained that our sump pump had stopped working, and he replaced it with a brand new one that he had on his truck! Yes you heard me, he had the parts we needed on his truck! I have dealt with other HVAC companies that have been able to tell me the problem, but they NEVER had the parts on the truck. It was always something they had to order and would leave me hanging for a day or so. Ever wonder how much this is gonna cost you, and have a person give you an "estimate" ?? Well there was no estimating here, He had a price book with all the costs printed right on there. I am very thankful that Jeff came out and didn't leave till about midnight. I felt bad about calling him away from his family at night, but some things can't wait (like when your basement is flooding, and water is coming in from all the corners!!!). In the past few years, we have had Master Services install a new water heater, furnace, and whole house air conditioner, including a zone heating/cooling system. They have also done ductwork cleaning and new plumbing installs for us. We are Platinum Service members, who pay a monthly fee to have our systems looked at periodically throughout the year for preventative maintenance. It's a great deal! We have been extremely satisfied with the service and professionalism of the installers. We had a few hiccups the last two service calls, but management listened to our concerns and made it right with us. Only wanted my furnace cleaned, technician said I had a weak capacitor and if went out would cost $300.00 plus to come out if went out after hours.I believe in preventive maintenance , said it would cost $140.00 since hewas was here already, only problem was he had the part in his hand, thought part cost that much, wrong its a $20.00 part, I should have did some research first. I felt he was double charging me.The company said it cost to run there trucks and did not offer anything except the $20.00 discount for being 45 minutes late and $10.00 off the early service. $90.00 cleaning turned into $250.00 I hope they honor there warranty.
