I picked up some discount hot and spicy cheese straws (truly spicy), 2 pounds of white grits for my daughter, and some lavender hand lotion. Having origins since 1897 and having this type of store anywhere is absolutely amazing. Of course this isn't the original Valle Crucis store but you can definitely get a feel for it all. Great place to pick up some candy and any big box name brand clothing. Keep in mind those prices are naturally high anywhere you go. They have a giant assortment of candy that would make Rocket Fizz blush and even some local items. Shoes are upstairs and even have clothing separated for men and women. No one greeted me or helped me when I walked in the door. That's ok though I wasn't looking for anything in particular. Still it would've been nice to know there was another warm blooded body somewhere that could help me if something struck my fancy. This store has two entrances/exits so accessibility is not an issue. Great variety of items with a decent outdoor recreation section, lots of clothes, and large kids section.

This is a really unique local store with just about everything you can imagine. There is outdoor gear, clothing, candy, toys, and a bunch of local items. I did have a hard time finding toddler sizes for tshirts. (I buy my son a shirt everywhere I go.) I did finally find one that worked. There is so much in here. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit for anyone visiting GSP. read more

It's a decent enough store. Some interesting items. I DO NOT care for the pets permitted inside policy. Almost got bit by this man's pit bull which was almost fighting another person's pit bull. Only trained service dogs should be allowed in stores. So I have no desire to put myself at risk for that again. You could really be sued big for that. read more

Located on the true Main Street of downtown Greenville, is Mast General Store. Apparently, Mast is somewhat of must see when visiting GVL, so as one would expect, we made our way here during our recent visit. This store has three levels and basically two different "sides". Coming off of Main Street you enter into the retail portion that features an abundance of clothing, souvenirs, hats, tschotchke's, watches and even knives - basically what I am saying, is they got a little bit of everything here! This portion of the store features a lot of SC items, but also has a lot of national brands such as Chubbies and Yeti. Once you wonder through the main part of the store, you hit a small stair case that takes you down to, what feels like an old country general store. This part of the store features barrels, yes barrels of candy, walls of toys and racks of local southern items from jams, pickles, cast iron cookware, candles, lotions, picture frames, cards, etc... I think by now you get the gist...Mast is a fixture in the Greenville community and a great place to visit when in town. If you get a chance, head to their site and read about their history, the Mast history goes all the way back to the 1880's! Overall, we got we were after from our visit to Mast and it is certainly on the list to swing in upon our next trip to GVL. read more

I love this quaint yet useful general store in downtown Greenville. They have a huge selection of jams, jellies, salsas, honey, etc that are delicious and local. You could buy your whole wardrobe here or get supplies for a camping trip. They are a one stop shop for a multitude of items that you might need, as well as items you don't need, but you will definitely want! read more

This is a fun store. I found lots of things and murdered my bank account along the way. If you're a local, the store is expensive. It wasn't for me. I was expecting prices to be higher, actually. I was able to find really great dog chew toys here, and that was a nice surprise. The only downfall is the customer service. Employees here aren't that friendly. They all seemed unhappy. read more

I think you have to visit here when you're in downtown Greenville. It's quite touristy and there's lots of souvenirs to buy. You can also try samples of candy. They have little mice on main sculptures. It kind of feels like you're stepping back in time here. read more

There was a decent amount of staff that didn't bug you but made sure you were finding everything you needed. The prices seemed general which was to be expected in the area the store was located. They had free (store) stickers too which was awesome as someone who collects stickers! Had an opossum sticker too which I bought 10/10! read more

We came looking for souvenirs and post cards and while we did find them, geez this store is loaded with so many things! From outfits to snacks....mugs to key chains and literally all things in between, they probably have it in the Mast General Store. Customer service was helpful when asked, but I liked that they generally leave you alone to peruse on your own as you go. This store is bigger than it looks and has two entrances, one off of main street, and the other in the slight downstairs area of the store. Parking for Mast General store is shared with all the stores along Main street, and if i'm being honest, it's tough to get a spot right in front of the store. Honestly on the weekends, it's just hard to find a spot at all mid day, so come early, be lucky or have someone drop you off in front of the store. I like Mast General store. Admittedly, it's full of items that are geared towards tourists, but that's what I was, so it definitely worked for us! read more

Mast is a must when visiting Greenville. This store compliments the southern charm of Greenville's Main Street. When you walk in, you'll see an abundant supply of men and women's clothes with popular brands such as Chubbies, Southern Tide, Yeti, etc. They have a full supply of South Carolina souvenirs and knick knacks. When you move towards the back of the store, it becomes more of an old school gift shop and candy store. They have board games from 20-30 years ago that are sure to bring back some memories. I was visiting some friends and they took me to this gem in the middle of town. They have so many classic items and have even diversified to carry outdoor gear. I don't think there's a negative thing I can say about this store. The staff are always delightful. The merchandise is SO much fun to browse and I seldom walk out empty-handed. Mast has become a staple of the downtown Greenville experience, right up there with Liberty Bridge and Dark corner Moonshine. Whenever we have visitors in the area, we make sure this is one of our stops. They're always grinning ear-to-ear when we leave. If they return to the area, we always get the request ... This store is so unique that a visit here can be considered "entertainment". They carry some items that you will not see anywhere else in town. Gadgets, novelties, some pocket knives, hats, camping equipment, old fashioned candy by the pound, some jewelry, all sorts of things that you see and think "I could use that". Upstairs they have shoes and boots. This would be a great place to go looking for a gift. It's a bit like an LLBean store with an old fashioned flair. They have a lot of clothing that is of really good quality at reasonable prices. I found two shirts one night when we went in after eating at a nearby restaurant. One was very similar to an Eddie Bauer that is a favorite of mine. It's probably $85 at Bauer and was $60 here. We took two friends from Atlanta who were dining with us and spent an hour just looking around. Great place to hang out if you forgot to get a reservation at Trappe Door and need to kill some time. We love the selection of local gifts at Mast General Store. But when we walked in, the staff had their masks on below their noses, most customers had no mask at all and they shimmied last us just a couple of feet away. We will not be going back until at least after this pandemic. read more

I'm a firm believer that every town needs a Mast General Store :) it's such a cute little country store feel, chock full of great souvenirs, clothes, candy, home goods, and outdoor gear. What more do you need in one place?! Every Mast General Store I've been to is always bustling with people at any given time of the year. The entry level has men's and women's clothes, and in the back there are tons of little house goodies, locally made treats, and more. There's an excellent selection of candy- even candy from many many moons ago- it's certainly a nostalgic place, at best. Take the stairs down to the basement floor and be overwhelmed with excellent outdoor clothes, shoes, and camping gear. Though it's often overpriced, they tend to have good sales too. I've never had a bad experience at Mast General Store- even the one in Knoxville TN is excellent... my review would be the same for both. I love this place :) read more

I would almost go so far as to give it a 5 star, because it is probably the coolest store downtown. When my wife and I first moved to Greenville, we checked out the downtown area. A lot of small mom and pop shops and nifty looking restaurants. We then encountered the Mast General Store. I'm not even sure how to describe this place. The store has outdoor goods, souvenirs, candy, shoes.... I guess that's where the "general" part of the store comes in. I really like trying the different "cokes" (peope unfamiliar with the south, Coke is the midwest equivalent of Pop, or the east/west coast equivalent of soda). Apparently the thing to get down south is a moon pie and an RC cola- they even have t-shirts of this combo. My wife was a big fan of the bulk candy. You pay $6 or $7 per pound of any mixture of candy you can conceive. This is a must visit if you happen to be in the downtown area. There's just so much stuff there, you're bound to find something you'll like. read more
