I visited Massage Sanctuary for the first time recently. I was overdue for some body work, and suffering an over whelming schedule, computer problems and recovering from an accident - I was very much in need of some body work. Unfortunately, the person I had scheduled my appointment with was sick, so on the day of the appointment she called to inform me that one of her co-workers, Rosemarie, had agreed to see me. I had a little bit of a hard time sorting out where to park, because it was dark when I arrived - NOTE: there's parking all around the building. The building is an amazing historic site in Acton - can't miss it! I was a little concerned when I arrived - the bathroom and massage studio were chilly, but Rosemarie had a heater on that had already warmed up the room and the massage table was warmed with an infrared blanket, so I was nice and toasty. Rosemarie gave me a fabulous massage - combining what I would best describe as Swedish technique and Reiki ( I believe she's a Reiki master). The end result left me feeling more relaxed and far less stressed! I have been to the resort massage centers with fresh cucumber water and waterfalls. Private rest areas offer macadamia nuts to munch on while lounging in thick white robes. Then on to the massage offered by the young attractive staff in spandex outfits. Almost always with a palpable air of boredom while they go through the required motions that leave me sore and worse off than I was. If this is your thing, don't come here for a massage. The business is in a historic building with creaky stairs and high ceilings, very 1800"s. Once you arrive however, the space is functional, tranquil and comfortable. All of the effort goes into the quality of the work they perform. Thier massages are honestly sublime. The best I have had. After one too many laps in the pool and too many tense meetings I arrived a knot of tension. I left completely relaxed and thoroughly refresheshed. Thier work is in another category than the resort spas and the chain establishments. Highly recommended. read more

Instead of pushing through knots, I feel like Emily melts them and I often get the sensation of warm water flowing down my back. I saw Roxy for general stress relief as well as helping to manage my tight back, neck and hip muscles. She was fabulous and very sweet! Roxy really knows the muscles in the body and seemed to know exactly when she was on a muscle that was 'tender' and needed work. Roxy is very understanding of your needs and is goal oriented per each session. You can tell she really enjoys helping people. She was great at loosening my hips and glutes and was very knowledgeable about how all the muscles affect one another. The prices for her packages are very reasonable as well. I never thought I would be the type of person to treat myself to a massage every few weeks but because Roxy is so great and the prices aren't extreme I consider it more of a necessary health/wellness benefit than a one time pampering experience. read more
