I'm a Massage Envy hostage.... I've been a member for 16 months (the membership gives you one credit a month) of those 16 credits I've bought today makes the 8th service appointment I've made that they've canceled me for one reason or another (last minute staff member call offs, no-shows, burst pipes, construction). They've had me drive further away to different locations because they can't honor the appointments made at the location I signed up at/for. The kicker is, if I cancel I don't get a refund and they only have to dodge me for another 60 days before I lose a few hundred dollars worth of unused credits (that I've tried to use but each booked service has been canceled by them). On a positive note: the providers themselves are fabulous and the ambiance is very relaxing but the business operation side of things leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Main reason I am giving this establishment a one star is their cancelation policy. The cancelation policy requires minimum 10 day delay after the customer has verbally requested termination of contract. This means that the business can charge your card for monthly membership 10 or more days after you requested the termination. Honestly why am I spending $100 on a less than mediocre massage? My muscles still hurt and I still feel really tense. My neck was only worked on for about 3 minutes when I explained that was my main concern with my migraines. Due to the pandemic, I've not felt safe doing things like getting massages for a very long time. I've been a member of ME for nearly ten years. I finally called because my neck was giving me problems, and also because I was thinking of canceling my membership. I found out that masks were "strongly encouraged" but not required. I was dismayed by this and expressed concern to Molly that not requiring masks was an unsafe practice. She was kind and understanding, and she also shared with me that the therapist I was going to nearly a year ago before I stopped was always masked and required that his clients wore a mask during their sessions. After hearing this, I made the decision to go ahead and book because I knew I had the best chance of being safe while masked with a therapist who was also masked. Michael is fantastic, and it is because of this and his practice of masking and having clients mask that I am not canceling my membership and will continue to see him. I do understand that these days, many people are sick of masks and don't want to wear them. The good news is, with most (I think; ask the front desk to make sure) therapists here you don't have to. I've had plenty of massages before but I have never had a place that was so unprofessional. Worst place I have been to, even if the massage is bad I never leave a bad review as long as they are not rude. 1. I asked for a massage therapist that is strong but the therapist seemed new, not experienced, and not confident in what she was doing. It was not the therapist fault, she said she doesn't do the type of massage I wanted so basically they booked me with someone that was open that day to just fit me in. She said she was the one that talked to me on the phone and tried to lie to me when I literally talked to her couple hours before...so I would definitely remember what she said to me and then she had nothing to say because she knew she was lying. I scheduled a massage here for my birthday. I was scheduled with Kim. I filled out a form asking what areas I wanted to focus on. I chose head neck hands and feet. She came out to get me and started by telling me she does not massage those areas because that is reflexology and its "not good on massage therapists hands". she then asked what kind of pressure I liked and I told her I like a good amount of pressure. She replied that she also does not do that because she "taps out at a light to firm pressure". (so not sure why she was asking preferences when clearly she was going to do what she wanted anyways). The massage started with a 40 minute back rub with the sides of her arms. She then proceeded to paw at my sides like a cat. she did each arm and leg for about two minutes then to top it off she took her hands that she had been rubbing all over my body with oil and rubbed all over my face: eyebrows cheeks everything. I have had so many massages and nothing compares to this. I thought someone was playing a joke on me. Do not recommend! Go ANYWHERE else! i contacted the company because I felt like they should know and their response was that every massage therapist has a different pressure and offered me a "free enhancement". I was slightly nervous after reading some of the reviews, but this location was incredibly clean and professional! The front desk ladies were so genuine and caring. I have been a member at ME for a few years now and seen several different therapists during my visits. Yesterday my massage was with Joseph, and my massage the best ever! His techniques were very effective, he kept checking in with me about the pressure level (not too often for me not to be able to relax, but often enough to be sure the massages as effective). I also did not have any soreness that I have had after some massages, but my muscle and nerve pain is definitely improved. My hope is that ME treats Joseph well enough to keep him on staff-I will definitely be booking with him again! read more

I had a Relaxing Rub down. Sorry its been too many years to remember what it was called but it was with lotion and warmth and gentle applying and I enjoyed the relaxation! It was a great addition to my hotel stay and I felt nice and relaxed and enjoyed the warmth of the 20 minute relax at the end, wrapped in warm towels & peaceful quiet. This place takes down your credit card info to schedule an appointment. One day I reserved appointments for myself and a friend. My friend joined their membership club and when her credit card expired they started charging mine. I called repeatedly to fix the problem and nobody would call me back. They did not do anything until the BBB got involved. On top of that as soon as you leave your relaxing massage, they high-pressure sales you into their monthly program which just stresses you out. I have been to this location 4 times and so far each time has been a 4 star experience. I have used 3 different therapist all with different levels of pressure and technique and I can't complain about any of them! From lite pressure to firm pressure I have had a great experience each time. This evening I used Alex for my massage and it was a great relaxing experience. She seemed to be very knowledgeable of the human anatomy and physiology which just helped the experience. From the moment you check in they usher you into a private and quiet waiting room to wait for your session. Post session they always follow up with an evaluation and a small cup of water. The checkout receptionist have always been pleasant and attentive. If you are looking for an affordable way to get regular massages this is the place to go. read more

Most of the massages I've had throughout the almost 3 years I've been a member have been good. Fortunately, my massages have mostly taken place at the Fallen Timbers location (because of where I live). But anything concerning my membership must go through my home Massage Envy, which is the Toledo location. That is where my single star comes into play, all because of the service, specifically from management. It has been horrific! When I tried to cancel my membership, no one contacted me (because apparently a manager has to finalize everything) and 7 days later I was charged my monthly fee. Nearly two weeks later, I still hadn't spoken with anyone, and spent 3 days trying to contact them myself! The first person I spoke with told me that I needed written consent from a doctor or proof that I lived a minimum of 25 miles from a Massage Envy location in order to cancel. It's MY CHOICE whether or not I want to continue to pay $60/month for a membership! The next day, I was on hold waiting to speak with the manager (Cindy) while she finished up another call, and SHE LEFT for the day while I was still on hold!!! When I finally did get to speak with her this morning, 13 days after I'd gone in to request cancellation, she refused to refund me my payment that they withdrew exactly one week later, stating that I should've read the find print in the paperwork that says that management has a ten day window to complete cancellation. She even tried to convince me to remain a member. Are you nuts?! It took 13 days to get my membership canceled, and only that quickly because I called on my own time so frequently. Had I not reached out to them, I am confident that my membership would still not be canceled. The management at this location is owed zero credit for doing their job or for providing a positive customer service experience. I was just another dollar sign, and only worth my monthly membership fee. This is exactly why this company has had legal issues in the past. I do not recommend this location. EDIT-Received a call from the "new" General Manager of this location, Betty Jane. She wanted to review my cancellation form and complete cancellation. Remember, today was day 13. I informed her that I'd already completed this with Cindy earlier this morning. I also voiced my concerns with the way my attempt to cancel my membership was handled. The GM was less than sympathetic, giving me excuse after excuse about how they're all in training and that I should've read my member contract prior to canceling. This is ridiculous! I've been a member for nearly 3 years and at no time should I be the one held responsible for the company's lack of communication. Had I been told up front that there was a 10 day window, and that I may be charged for another month before the cancellation was complete, I would have been understanding. This company scams their members. Even had I walked in on the first of any month to cancel, I still would have been charged due to the 10 day policy, as the payments are withdrawn automatically on the 10th of each month. I fell victim to believing the employees I spoke with when they told me that I'd be contacted within 24 hours. Do not make the same mistake I did! Do not waste your time with this company! There are plenty of other massage therapists in the Toledo area that are more worthy of your money and time! read more

I've been a massage envy member for about a decade, starting when I lived in Chicago. Each location of ME is a franchise, I believe, so service varies. Overall, I like this location. It's usually not too difficult to make an appointment and most of the therapists are great. I use my membership to get both massages and facials.
