This was my first time going to the Massage Envy Timonium location. I was able to book an appointment online the week before. They are located in the Yorkridge Shopping Center, along York Road and W Ridgely Road. I got a courtesy text message appointment reminder the day before my appointment. On the day of I was running late and called to let them know that I was on my way. Though I may be a bit late due to the traffic and weather. I was sooo glad my driver got me there just in time for my appointment. The front desk staff were very professional and polite. She showed me where the Relaxation/ Waiting Room Area was. I got myself some water and had a seat. My massage therapist Evan was absolutely spectacular! He's a very skillful massage therapist and his experience really shows. He had such an awesome massage routine. I've never had a massage therapist that has such a smooth flow! Everything was so well thought out and intentional. It's definitely my new "gold standard" for how a massage therapy session should be. I wish they all were like this! After my massage was done, it literally felt like I was floating on fluffy clouds... a m a z i n g :O All the tension that I felt in my neck, shoulders and back from earlier had literally melted away. The business model and the availability of good therapists is a serious problem with this business. I was a member for 2 years because I needed continuous massage therapy for hip and lower back issues. The membership gives you a lower rate than a walkin appointment. For the membership they take $80 out of your account every month which goes towards a massage credit you can use at any time. The continual problem I had was finding a good, reliable therapist who was available on weekends. (I work full time so during the week hours is not an option because they aren't open late enough during the week.) The 4 therapists who worked well for me and my issues were too often booked, then 2 of them left ME and 1 changed her schedule to work only weekdays. That left me with one therapist who was very difficult to get an appointment with. Consequently, I had a stockpile of credits because I couldn't get in for the regular massages I needed, I was still being charged every month, and they told me I couldn't cancel my membership until I used the credits! I was able to put my membership on hold but they charged me $20 a month for that - and that money didn't earn me credits. Note, I was told by one person at ME that I could use any ME in the country but another told me I could only use the ones in Timonium and White Marsh. Either way, the one in Timonium is the one that's convenient. So, the model didn't work well for me and cost me a lot of aggravation, as well as money, without meeting my needs which was to have regular therapeutic massages to help address and prevent lower back pain. Massage Envy- this message is for you: (1) Be more consumer oriented and put your customers first; (2) Extend your business hours to weekday evenings; (3) Allow membership cancellations regardless of whether someone has unused credits; (4) if you're going to charge members to keep their membership open while people catch up on unused credits, then that additional fee should go towards credits as well (it's no cost to you to keep an account open so you don't need to be charging this anyway). read more

Please, Black women: do not go here. This place is not safe or welcoming for us. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with condescension and hostility that none of the white customers seemed to experience. The entire staff is white, and the way they spoke to me was openly racist and dismissive. Instead of being treated with professionalism, I was made to feel like I didn't belong there at all. Massage is supposed to be a space of relaxation, safety, and care, but what I experienced was the opposite. I left feeling disrespected. No one should pay money to endure racism. I was looking forward to enjoying my massage and even caught a train back to MD earlier than I would have to make sure I don't miss this appointment. I get a call stating that my appt needs to be rescheduled since the massage therapist has a family issue. They would have charged me 50% of the total if I canceled, however, they refused to offer me any sort of credit for their cancellation. I also explained that I work multiple jobs and it's hard for me to find a day that's good for me so I'm super disappointed about today. They can't fix the person having a family situation but they did nothing to remedy it for myself as the customer. I had been going to Massage Envy Timonium for several years and saw only Jackie who was an excellent employee. In early 2022, I conracted Covid and had to postpone my massages but was charged for all the massages I wasn't able to take, according to their policy. They said I could make up for all the massages I paid for, but missed. When better, I visited this particular unit, in person, and set up a visit, on that day for a week away. When I went for my appointment they said I didn't have an appointment for THAT day but for another day, a MONTH away. Obviously, I was very upset and received NO consideration for their error. I told them on the spot to cancel my membership, which cost me several hundreds of dollars because I don't want to belong to a company that would "bait and switch" one of its regular customers. I don't know if the front desk or the manager screwed up but no one tried to help me resolve the problem. It's not the money I'm complaining about, although I could use it, but the management and or the employees who caused this disagreement. My fiancé gave me a gift card for my birthday. Kara did a wonderful deep tissue massage to help work out the tension and knots in my back. My only issue was that they took my credit card on file to hold my spot when I made my appointment. (I'm assuming in case I cancelled last minute.) When I went to cash out I gave them my gift card with more than enough to cover the service and tip. They charged my gift card and told me my balance. I later got an email notification from my bank saying that my credit card was charged $60 from Massage Envy.. when I called back to resolve the issue there was no apology for the inconvenience. Thankful that I'm not living paycheck to paycheck and had enough in my account to cover the error. The massage therapists are great. But I'll probably stick to another location that's a bit more reliable. read more

I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable my visit to the Timonium ME location was. When I arrived I was the only customer in the lobby, which positively added to the relaxing afternoon I was in search of. I filled out some mandatory paperwork electronically on a tablet. Once done I was escorted to the back where there was a small but comfy area to wait for my esthetician. The mood was chill and the building was lightly dim, this is exactly the vibe I look for when splurging on a spa day. Once escorted back to the treatment room I was given instructions and time to get comfortable on the treatment table. I was able to request the table be heated- which I greatly appreciated. My service was exactly how I like it, little talking, light music playing in the background and absolutely no attempt to sell me product that I didn't need. When I left I felt amazing. My skin was glowing and I opted to purchase the lip and skin treatment that was used during my service because it looked and felt great, not because I was forced to check out products that they have available for sale. I would definitely return to check out some of the other services they provide. I noticed a sign In The lobby that HSA funds can be used for services. Now that's a great deal! So why not 5 stars? Although, I was not looking for convo during my treatment, as amazing as my facial was, I wasn't provided any feedback on the condition of my skin. My review is from a first time visit to this location. I have been to other locations and didn't seem to have the same issues that other reviews have had. I did sign up for the 6 month membership just to see how that goes. The explanation seemed straight forward and the benefits seemed well enough. I already made a reminder to get ready to cancel near the end if needed. The plan is to keep switching massage therapists till I find one I really like at this location. Sometimes it is just a feel. I felt like I was pretty clear with mine about problem areas and what to spend more time on. By the time the session was over. It seemed like she spent just as much time on non problem areas and the problem areas. The session was still relaxing so I can't complain. read more

As a long-term member, I am consistently happy with my massage and customer service. It helps to go there for awhile, try different therapists, until you find your best fit; until you do, their rates are so affordable I don't mind if I had a less then perfect massage. I've been to too many ritzier places and paid double for worse. Atmosphere is clean, nicely furnished/decorated in calming, relaxing colors; customer service is always friendly, prompt, and helpful. I highly recomend this establishment- all is above board, and it offers solid massage services for those in need of relaxation and/or relief from minor aches and pains. read more

I went here once on a coupon to give this place a try. I was really hoping as a first time customer they'd take good care of me and give me a good reason to become a member....yeah, not so much! THE GOOD... -easy to park (that's it) THE BAD... -I asked for deep tissue and what I got felt like a baby rubbing its fingers on my back -all they seemed to want to do was sign me up, very pushy -if I'm gonna pay for a membership I want to go as many times as I choose...too much fine print and blurred lines of membership contract Overall I'd rather spend $60-$80 for a real massage that I want vs a chain who simply wants to make money. Wish I could give negative stars. Terrible customer service. I have been trying to reach a manager for almost three days and I keep getting the run around. We are expected to give 24 hr notice if we cancel. But twice I have tried to have an appointment and they change/ cancel me without any apology or effort to fix the issue. Don't, do NOT set up an account with massage envy. If your late and unable to make it but try to reschedule they deduct your account and keep your money. They are very rude and and have poor customer service. The receptionist says "Massage Envy" so fast it sounds like she's saying misogyny, which I doubt she even knows the definition. There are much better massage places to spend your money. I had a membership here for a short time, and during my time there this is what I noticed; front desk/reception not overly friendly but not altogether terrible (most of the time) massage rarely started on time, and when they took me back, gave me probably an overabundance of time to change clothes, etc. When I book/pay for a one hour massage, I understand I don't get 60 minutes of actual rubbing...but I do expect more than 45 ish. Walls are exceedingly thin, so it was typical to hear anyone in the room next to you. When you book a massage, you are kind of at the mercy of that worker coming in for the day. So, if that worker calls in sick and there is no one available to massage you, then you get no massage for the day. And they probably won't bother to call you in advance and alert you to this fact, so that when you show up for what will be your first massage after having a baby, the first time you are leaving said baby with a sitter...and they tell you there will be no massage today. You get a little bit annoyed. And when they offer literally no apologies, no kind of incentive for your time wasted, inconvenience and in fact insult you for having the audacity to complain about this.....that pretty much ensures you will never attempt to patronize this place ever again. Let me reiterate; this place wants people with memberships, but doesn't want to take care of them. read more

My boyfriend was kind of upset with the people at the front desk because of how they were acting over the phone. This place is extremely clean. The people at the front desk really dont speak at all. They just give u the clip board and say fill this out. The wait wasnt long for my massage. I had Brian (I think that was his name). He was GREAT. When I left my back, legs, and neck felt great. If i lived in MD I would definitely send my mom or my boyfriend or even become a member. I was a great experience for it to be my first massage. The music they play in the massage room is very therapeutic. I would recommend this place to others and I would return. read more

Cancelled in person more than 2 years ago. I was told that the cancellation was complete. For several months we checked and we were not being charged. After discovering massage envy charges on my credit card statement recently I went back and reviewed prior statements to discover that after 3 month, Massage Envy started charging my card for 2 memberships per month. When I call to complain they tell me that they never received a "cancellation form." This form was never mentioned when we were literally standing in the storefront speaking to a manager about cancelling our service. I call bull-shit. I will also be considering litigation to recover the more than $2500 in fees they've taken out. read more

Currently in my second month of membership and I'm very, very pleased with Massage Envy. The hours are ridiculously convenient (a 1.5 hr massage appointment at 8:30 p.m. is the best thing I could ever ask for) and they almost always have openings for times I'm looking for because they're so well-staffed. Those at the front desk are always nice and my massages with Caitlin and Andrei were both wonderful. The atmosphere is soothing and comforting--the waiting room has gentle lighting and you can help yourself to tea and water. They also have guest reviews of every therapist there--I love this transparency! I really recommend this place if you're trying to get on a regular schedule with your massages. This was my first experience in a "professional" massage environment. I use the term "professional" loosely. I had the worst, creepiest experience of my life. The gentleman performing my massage keep going on and on how he loved feet. literally would not shut up about my feet or otherwise. I have been receiving masaage for over 20 years and became a member at the Massage Envy Timonium location in 2008... The staff was always friendly and the establishment was very clean and ofcourse very knowledgeable Massage therapists. I guess around 2015 the entire staff changed my regular therapists had left .It was a complete turn around , the business just began to decline in customer service and the therapist would complain about how much they hated it there .... I loved Massage Envy with the convenient hours and affordable price so I continued receiving services at some of the other locations. I received a phone call and an email that Timonium would be reopening under new owners and management..I was delighted to hear this news since this location is very convenient.I went in and it was a joyous surprise the friendly staff, clean establishment and I have to say one of the best massages I have ever received ....I will definitely go back and I highly recommend you give them a try ... read more

We have always had good if not great sessions until recently.. We have tried to contact the new owner via email, as well as a letter, and No response. Terrible customer service...ironic at a spa where the goal is to relax. After getting a past due mail notice in the mail and messages to get my new credit card, I went in discuss why I was past due and unable to get massages for personal health reasons. There was zero eye contact by the front desk and was told that the manager (literally hiding in the side office) would call me to discuss, which he or she never did. Instead they sent my info to a collection agency. I then went back to this location to pay and discuss and the manager still did not come out of the office. I had been a member for over two years and they just lost me for good. It's a shame that the front desk and manager can't take a few minutes to talk and actually listen to their clients because their therapists are doing the best they can. read more

Things have definitely changed here. The management and front desk used to be very unreasonable and rude. There must have been some changes somewhere because any manager I talk to is more than friendly, and the rest of the staff also has a smile on their face. I love my therapist Cara, but for a while was considering canceling my membership due to clerical issues that kept happening. Mistakes still happen from time to time but they always make up for it! I can't knock the service, as it's what you should expect from what I would consider a budget spa. Until my last visit...they have raised their price by over 20%!! $118 for an hour massage is unbelievable at a budget spa. You can currently go to Salon in the Vally and get a top of the line massage for $80 hr that includes a trip to the Tuscan room(tea, hot tub). Going to Massage Envy in Timonium is like going to the Hair Cuttery and paying a high end salon price. O stars! DO NOT go to Massage Envy in Timonium! My husband gave me a $200 gift card for Mother's Day! I tried to book a massage and facial on the same day; however, no one could seem to find 2 appointments on the same day despite looking 6 weeks into the calendar. That could be due to their introductory pricing you get on your first visit only. I had a facial one day and was due for a massage the other day. I called to cancel as my daughter began throwing up. I tried several times, then the last time I tried it was closed. I called again that morning at 8 am when they opened and someone answered and told me I would be charged 1/2 the money for cancellation. What was I to do....bring my daughter throwing up? Normally, she would be at pre-school; however, I couldn't send her throwing up. It was not even 2:30 and the charge was already pending on my account (2:30 was the original appointment time) . When I booked the appointments via phone, I explained I had a gift card, but was still told they had to have my debit card number to hold the appointment. No one EVER said if I cancelled the day of my appointment, I would be charged. I cancelled 6 1/2 hours prior. I now realize why my debit card number was so important despite the gift card...so I could fraudulently be charged. Needless to say, I will not be going to Massage Envy ever, as the facial was my first and last time. I also will not be recommending the company to anyone and I will be writing a review anywhere I can find a site to do so. People need to be warned. I asked for a manager and was told several times she was busy or unavailable. The receptionist was extremely rude, as well. After writing a review on Yelp, the business responded and told me to put my complaint in their portal. I had already done so, 3 days prior, but no one contacted me. There are many great places in Towson to get a massage and my husband thought to give this place a try since it is new, but I'll return to my usual spot. I spoke the assistant manager John (who I believe made the last review ) & he said he would be able to give me a refund. . . I drove 45 minutes just for the GM to tell me I could not receive my refund. John told me that he would make a note of our conversation , but when I got there nobody knew what I was talking about. I explained to the manger I could not receive facials or massages and she still tried to sell me a membership! As you can see from the other reviews, the quality of the services is just OK at best. The real problem is their business ethics. Whatever you do, DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT. You will be entering into a deal with Beelzebub. Do yourself a favor, if you choose to go to this (or any) Massage Envy, pay cash and run away after your massage. After numerous phone calls to cancel the service and a block on my credit card, after 15 months, my CC company released the block and M.E. charged me AGAIN!!. I had to completely cancel the credit card. The "Manager" kept insisting that we needed to come in person and fill out a cancellation form before they would stop charging my card. I had to threaten them with a law suit to get them to agree to cancel the subscription. There are plenty of better options for a nice massage. They are not even inexpensive any more. Really disappointed with the service here, mostly from front-of-house, my massage therapist was sweet and did a fairly good job. I was a member for a year. Halfway through my membership, my massage therapist informed me at the beginning of my massage that the hour long massages I was paying for were now going to be 50 mins, per management. She said "yeah, I don't really know why they're doing that." And asked me initial something to prove that she told me. Canceling my account was a nightmare because they have one person in charge of cancellations who only works part time. I ended up losing money because the cancellation terms weren't adequately explained and when I spoke to the manager to get help she said "sorry, you're not a member anymore, I can't see your payment history, my hands are tied. It's impossible for me to do anything for you at this point." Stay away from this place! read more
