    6 nice tennis courts
    Yuchen Z.

This is a beautiful big park for the public. Things included: + They have 6 nice tennis courts (see pics) and it's not too crowded on slightly cooler days. (The lights will turn on at night starting in April). + Really big dog park that you can walk to through the park. + Soccer field + baseball field + amphitheater (summer music shows) + clean bathrooms + picnic/bbq areas that you can rent or you can just go for free. Lots of paths to walk through and you can get a lot of miles out of this park. Parking might be tight on crowded days/nice weather days. Great place to go for a walk to play some sports!

Edit: I actually got to explore the park more and found it does actually have some nice trails to get lost in, and they're farther away from the soccer field and all the activities. Once I found these trails I really started liking this park a lot more.

I'm a bit fussy when it comes to dog parks. This particular one has always been one of my favs. I think it's worth the drive, and it's only about a 15-20 min drive via Braddock Rd to Rt. 236. The park has ample parking, there is a double fence enclosure so you can take off your dogs leash, and safely know that he/she won't escape. Remember to latch both gates. The people who bring their dogs here are all respectful of each other and they watch their dogs. We are a bit over protective of our pups, so we tend to follow them around. They use gravel and sand, which is great because we don't have to worry about mud like other dog parks. There's also a trail behind the enclosed dog area, for those who like to walk with their pets. Mornings are fun because it's not too busy!

I really enjoyed walking the trails in mason district park. They are lush and green with different native trees and lovely bits of nature to explore. You are close to the city but can get lost on a trail if your aren't careful! Nice location for a quick walk and taking in the local wilderness.

Sierra Hull (bluegrass). Bring a thermos of frozen margarita & get ready for a great time in this little clearing in the woods.

I had no idea this little one-with-nature venue was here. Yes, there's a dog park and plenty of hiking trails. But there's also a simple, modern amphitheater surrounded by trees and trails and plenty of bench seating. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/NzMa5-olWXCgQIeRSLwikg?userid=Oe4LLtN1tn46sDUM-BSX_A) The acoustics aren't amazing, obviously, but with the speakers hooked up (yes, there are speakers! and a sound booth!), it's plenty sufficient for a great time. Bring your dog and a paper fan and an optional thermos of frozen margaritas, and you'll be set for a magical musical experience in this tiny utopia.

This park offers so many different routes you can take. Also, dogs are welcomed as long as they are leashed. On weekends, many people play tennis or soccer, but trails are rather quiet and peaceful.

Great park close to home. Love the trails just feel bad that the pond is small for all the poor turtles.

Decent dog park; however, there is not a lot of shade and there is no water for the pups - so bring bottled water on the warm days.

You can see turtles, a bearded dragon, play with toys in a little nature nook that looks like it came straight out of the Berenstein Bears, or climb up and down their little play structure. The people who work here are extremely friendly and the price for all of this is Free 99. 4) They host field trips and birthday parties that are fun and informative for kids and adults alike. I never knew this was about a 15 minute drive from my house but I'm glad I finally checked it out…read more I did the section from Eakin Park on Prosperity Avenue down to Lake Accotink and back. Most of it is paved which is convenient and it wasn't too crowded on a weekday. Luckily there was only one street crossing, but it's near a curve so pay attention and move fast. It's mostly woods between rows of suburban houses, and a short portion near a highway interspersed with more wooded sections through parks and leading to a gravel section at Lake Accotink. One part was almost like walking through a tall grass prairie with only a small clearing for the trail itself, I hadn't seen that anywhere else around here. I saw some deer near Lake Accotink and they watched me for a minute then decided to run off after they were kind enough to stop for a picture. Also, unlike some trails it's VERY difficult to get lost here so that's a major plus. I'll definitely check this out again and will check out some other segments as well.

It is well maintained and very safe in these areas. Lots of cool old bridges. This is one of my favorite running routes. Part of it us even paved, from Pickett road by the baseball field to where to where it splits off near Nutley (under a mile). The rest is well maintained gravel. The part in Oakton: 3 stars. Super confusing and rough. Too rugged for a casual biker or even trail runner. Might be nice for a hike or dog walking. I agree with the reviews before that said there are places that lack signage and you have to know what you're doing to know how to follow it.
