Cool little shop that sells an assortment of Mardi Gras masks in the French Quarter. Although pretty much every place in New Orleans sells Mardi Gras masks, this place sells both the cheapy, $5, made in China ones that you can get at CVS and Walgreens, but it also has an assortment of handmade masks that start in the $140+ range. My favorite masks were the ones that had beads or lace like a belly dancer veil that could cover a Covid mask. That's a unique feature that I haven't seen on other masks. This would be a good place to get a more elaborate mask if you had a specific costume that you were buying for, but be prepared to shell out some cash. read more

I walked most of the French Quarter and this place had the best selection of masks at all different price points. I was able to get a beautiful mask for a last minute masquerade ball for under $20. The mask looked like it was worth twice that much and I received compliments on my mask all night. read more

Located a block away from Jackson Square is a really cool shop with the best masks in New Orleans. I collect wooden masks, but I am always interested in other related items and I was so happy to find this shop based on the Yelp reviews. Just two small rooms loaded with mainly handmade masks and a really friendly staff this is the place to go if you are looking for a high quality mask. They have a wide variety of styles and materials from various artists, so plan on spending some time to look around and find what interests you. Prices are mostly between $100-$200, which is not bad considering the quality of the products they are selling. I ended up buying a really cool red leather Mephisto mask that looks great as part of my collection. There are plenty of places in the French Quarter that sell mass produced masks, but if you are looking for a handmade high quality mask that will be special check out Maskarade. read more

I had Maskarade bookmarked ahead of my New Orleans trip. I LOVE masks and I display them at home, so I knew I had to bring home a new mask for my collection. We happened to stop in after consuming hand grenades, so I ended up having a long conversation with the super nice lady working at the time. I don't remember what we talked about, but she did point me to a gorgeous purple mask within my price range. (Note: This was after visiting the vampire shop nearby..) I'm happy with my purchase, and I could have spent hours in here trying on masks. It's such a lovely little shop! Go! read more

What an awesome little mask shop located in the French Quarter, near Jackson Square. I stopped in by chance, a few days before Halloween, mostly looking for an authentic, hand-made mask to take home with me, not necessarily to wear. There was such an amazing variety of masks - sorted by style and color. Masks from ceiling to floor! In the front of the store are their hand-made masks by local artists - these masks are a bit pricier but they are mostly one-of-a-kind and the material is much better than the cheap, touristy masks. At the back of the shop are more commercially produced masks - I love that they label these and don't try to trick you into thinking you're buying something hand-made. Nonetheless, the masks in the back of the shop are super cool as well. All in all, if you're looking for a mask, no matter the occasion, Maskarade is the place to get it! read more

The masks were very elaborate. The artist have done an amazing job. Very creative and interesting.

Amazing array of masks of all shapes and sizes. Obviously a specialty store. Choose from many colors, sizes and styles.

The woman that runs this store is very nice, and is willing to share her knowledge of masks and New Orleans. There are mask makers that have a following, and people collect their art. She said one woman decorates her Christmas Tree with masks. I just loved the respite in the middle of a meandering walk read more

Wow !!!!! This shop has every mask you could dream of . I think most are handmade. Some are costly and others are responsible. They do sell other things cups, magnets, glasses, etc. It's worth it go on in and look even if you don't plan on buying. Perfect for tourists. read more

Located in the mother of all United States Mardi Gras cities, Maskarade is the place you might want to go to get yourself decked out in a very special mask for that very special party. Mardi Gras 2011 is coming up! If you don't celebrate Mardi Gras, then certainly get a mask for Halloween if that's how you roll. This is a small shop filled to the rafters with one gorgeous hand-made mask after another. The designs and colors are spectacular. You can get full and partial masks in an array of styles that will knock your socks off. Examples are animal, bird, Venetian style, and an assortment of leather masks. The website doesn't do this store justice but will show you a few styles. These are made by both local and national artists. Even if you don't plan on buying a mask, the craftwork and artistry of these pieces is worth a stop in to admire them. And imagine our surprise to be greeted by the sincerely friendly shop-keeper who invited us repeatedly to try masks on, to take photos of them if we wished and to not to feel afraid to take whatever interested us off the wall to examine! It's the kind of place that looks like: "Don't touch!!" would be written on signs all over. Instead this is a have fun, hands-on experience. The masks are pricey but when you see them you'll understand why. These are keepers and nothing at all like the inexpensive, mass-produced, made in China Mardi Gras masks that you see everywhere else in New Orleans. Sadly, I resisted buying one on this trip. I have several of those mass-produced ones and I just didn't think I needed another mask despite how cool these are. Opportunities for mask-wearing are in short supply here in Boston. But now that I'm back home and planning to attend a friend's upcoming Mardi Gras party, I'm sorry I didn't get something here. I would certainly have been the belle of the ball in one of these stunners. What I always say about my trips to New Orleans however, is there's always a next time. And next time, I'm getting myself one of these beauties. P.S.***Happy Valentine's Day to all my Yelp friends!*** xoxo read more

This is a beautiful small boutique, where the owner is a consignor that sells a myriad of masks from different local designers. We walked in hesitantly, because a lot of stores do not let you "play" and take pictures, but the minute we stepped in, she told us that we were welcome to take as many pics as we wanted. With that said, we spent a good 30 minutes or so goofing around in there. The prices range from like $50 to some masks that were in cases so those must be super expensive. They are all quality handemade products. read more

This is an amazing little shop that sells all kinds of masks. The nice lady at the front helped me find one for my daughter. They have nice mass produced mask but a real nice selection of hand crafted masks made by artisans. I highly recommend going to this amazing shop. read more

There are so many places to buy masks in New Orleans, but you will probably find some of the best quality masks in Maskarade. There is so much variety in terms of selection and price range. I assure you that your mask needs can be met there. You are only allowed to take one photo of yourself wearing a mask, but you can try on as many as you like. That's fair. Otherwise people would come in and just take selfies in masks all day. The woman working the store was friendly and helpful. I wish I bought one, but I couldn't really justify buying a mask without an occasion to wear it. read more

Talk about a cool shop!!! This beautiful shop is filled to the brim with the exciting flair of Marti Gras & Maskorade masks. A little something for every personality, price point and plenty of choices! One hat spoke to me! I had to have it! This was my first day and the first place I found something. Now, how to get it home? The lovely sales person offered to ship it for me! And to top that, offered to delay the shipping so it would arrive after I got home. Needless to say they were very accommodating! Such a personal commitment to service really impressed me. If you are in the area, go take a peek! Try on a few things, find your style, and ship it home! My hat represents my love for NOLA and brings those memories front and center every time I see it! Proud owner of a hat from Maskarade! read more

The shop is loaded with a lot of New Orleans high-quality, professionally made Mardi Gras/Masquerade masks. We actually stumbled upon this inconspicuous looking place only because other tourists walked into their front door. After that, we realize they were a whole bunch of goodies inside. This place features an array of different face masks some creepy, some beautiful, or both. There are many different styles of them; half face, full face, on a stick, the kind that has a band to wrap around your head, etc. The shop it's self is relatively small with two small rooms, but large enough for small groups to make their way around. If you happen to be in New Orleans, check this place out. read more

This mask shop is unlike the others in the French Quarter. The masks are handmade by local artists. It's a beautiful little shop filled with a variety of masks. They encouraged guests to try on the masks and take pictures! Would recommend to everyone! read more

Wow, this is a stunning mask shop that took me right back to Venice; but the prices are really wonderful. This shop features different masks from 40 local artists, and each sends what they've been working on. The result is an eclectic and varied display of animals, creatures or just art. This shop seems to provide masks for locally filmed movies and TV shows, in addition to anyone looking to dress up. I highly recommend coming in, even if just to be in awe. The masks are beautiful and worth seeing! read more

This is a special, special store, not to be missed on a visit to NOLA! These are not the same old tired masks you can find literally everywhere else in the Quarter; the masks here are crafted by local artisans, and they're exquisite. They range from Commedia del Arte to the Grotesque and everything in between, but not a one is shabby looking. The masks here are closer to what you'd find in a shop in Venice (Italy, not California!), in terms of style and quality. The young man behind the counter (I'm pretty sure his name is Daniel) was truly welcoming and friendly, a representation of the best kind of hospitality and class that New Orleans has to offer. If you're coming to NOLA for the first time (like I was) or the fifty-first, this is one place you need to check out! Hidden bonus for fans of "The Twilight Zone": there are recreations of the original masks from the unforgettable NOLA-set episode "The Masks" on display! read more

My wife and I stopped in this mask/art studio. It touts itself as a mask store but it is more like an art store. Every mask is unique. I can't speak highly enough about the owner and how she makes you feel like a friend. All the masks are exquisite and get more so as the price increases. The owner never pressured us into buying and we left without buying. After returning home, I had been so impressed with the degree of design, quality and flair of all of the masks, that I couldn't get them out of my mind. There was one mask that was so exceptional, and I wanted something to display (like I have with all our art work) to remind me of New Orleans. We decided to make the purchase online. I cannot express enough how easy it was to work with Marion (the owner). From the time I ordered the mask until the time I received it via FedEx, I was updated on its status continually. The mask (and the box it came in) arrived in pristine condition. We placed the order on March 28th and it arrived on April 3rd. I highly recommend Maskarade (themaskstore.com). And when you go there, please tell Marion she rates very high on all her customer's lists of friends. read more

The mask in this places are pretty expensive but absolutely beautiful. I would have love to have bought one but honestly I wanted the grandest mask they had but didn't think i should be paying triple digits for a mask i would probably loss in one drunken night. For those who come to NOLA, come here, try all the mask, have some laughs and if you have the money i suggested getting a mask. Hey you only live once, unless your a voodoo princess or Buddhist. read more

Very much worth a visit and the money if you're looking to buy. Their masks are not cheap. But they also are not the "Made in China" masks you will find elsewhere in New Orleans. These masks are handmade and high quality and unique. The only way to buy a mask while in New Orleans. read more

Upon entrance into this unassuming, little shop on Saint Ann St., I knew that the masks were going to be pricey. A cursory glance of the products here - high quality materials and unique, evocative designs. A closer look revealed an array of imaginative veneers - I fell in love with a mask that transformed me from a sunburnt tourist to a garden fairy. It was exquisite, featuring beautiful colors, silky materials, and unique embroidery... alas, I was not there for myself. I was there to choose an out-of-this-world souvenir for my sister. The customer service here is beyond exemplary. The lady at the counter encouraged both the boyfriend and I to try on the masks, as well as to handle the more expensive ones in the glass cases. It was literally nothing at all like the obnoxious tourist/souvenir shops where trying on the plastic masks and taking pictures is actively discouraged. With the help of the sales lady and my boyfriend, I chose the perfect mask for my sister - a farfallina design - black, laser-cut metal with intricate filigree and Swarovski crystal accents. An excellent shopping experience - I would definitely come here again. read more

Maskarade is more than just a souvenir mask shop. After talking to the lady that greeted us, this place is like a gallery displaying one of a kind masks designed and created by local artists. The prices can get pretty high, but worth it if you know you're the only one with this mask. My favorites were the Swarovski crystal masks in the locked case. They were so beautiful. They sell the standard "Made in China" souvenir masks too, however, you can find them cheaper at other shops. read more

We stopped by to check out the lovely masks and my husband had a lot of questions about the different styles of masks and the artists. The woman who had helped us was so nice and answered all his questions, it was not only a history lesson but an art and theater lesson as well. Great selection and these masks are really special and long lasting for someone who wants to keep their masks for either art of fun usage. The pricing had an excellent range depending on what you were looking for. read more

Buyer beware! This shop has a great selection of masks but shop around before you make a purchase here because they shamelessly inflate their prices. We bought several masks from the shop. One of the masks we purchased for $35 but then saw the exact same mask at a shop down the street for $12. Since we had purchased several masks from the store we went back to ask about this only to have the gentleman shopkeeper sneer at us and ask if we were hoping he would feel bad. There's no need to be so nasty to your customers. Customer experience is important no matter where you are! read more

The last day in New Orleans I needed to buy some masks for My Fiancé and I, so I googled 'mask shop' near Bourbon street and this one came up. SO HAPPY I came here. The proprietor had a variety of masks, everything from the one in Eyes Wide Shut (How cool is that?!) to smaller, less expensive ones. I was able to get two really nice masks for $50 total. I liked how she had a huge selection and that most of them came from local artists and people, rather than 'Made in China'. She was also nice enough to put them in a bag, and a heavy duty box so I could take them back on the plane and they would not get crushed. The hard part is deciding which one to buy, there are sooo many good ones. I will definitely be back the next time I am in NO. read more

I'll never try an do business here they will not give the time of day and have rejected my email they must have enough mask artist.

I check out Maskarade every time I visit New Orleans. I think of maskarade as more of an art gallery & wont even consider comparing it with tourist traps that sell Made in china junks 3 for $10 along with shot glasses. The collection of one of a kind hand made masks is truly stunning & the owners are super nice. They have masks hand made by local artists as well as Venetian masks imported from Italy. The price tag reflects the quality & workmanship you're getting. read more

My fiancé needed a mask that he could wear with his glasses. We spent half an hour trying on all of the handmade pieces in the front of the store. Fortunately we were able to find a few leather masks to fit over his specs. He chose a one-of a kind leather piece for $50. The back of the store is full of manufactured pieces. Some of these seem similar to what you will find in other shops and the price varies from $20-50. I selected a large, feathered mask that was tousled a bit on the flight home. Maskarade provides a better shopping experience than picking up a mask on the street, however it is much pricier and the quality is questionably better. read more

I was elated to find Maskarade by simply walking through the French Quarter. I became aware of them on my first leisure trip to NOLA but at that time was on a tight budget. I promised that upon returning, I would make it a point to stop back by and get whatever may appeal to me. Lets be clear, there is plenty in their stock to find appealing. I was so joyed to see not only such variety, but that the variety is sourced from actual artists around the globe. I saw masks crafted by artists from Europe, Canada, points in America, and beyond. The mask I settled on comes from a Canadian gal, and I LOVE my selection. It fit my face, and facets of my personality. The prices are totally justifiable and reasonable for the great quality and unique artistry I saw. The lady I was traveling with found a wonderful feather and bead combination hair band. My mask was on the low end of price as it worked out, but that did not drive my selection, it just made my selection that much better. Marian, who was working the counter on both visits was helpful, kind, and patient. I never felt pressure to 'buy or get out' but rather I felt very comfortable there, looking over their inventory. Other shops I wandered into before Maskarade all had the same basic generic made in China crap. AFTER Maskarade, I didn't even bother to look elsewhere as Maskarade is top notch. Maskarades wears are high quality, and beautiful, very unique. As a courtesy to the store, please make sure your hands are clean before handling, and that children are behaved. It was not issue to try on and look over their selection, but this should be treated as a privilege and not a run about toy store. I intend to return in the future. I wish my home city had store of this quality, but then I wouldn't get the joy of actually going to Maskarade. read more
