We are from San Francisco, and very excited to see a vibrant Somali community right here in Minneapolis. Masha Allah is a clean and very friendly Somoli cahe, lots of takeout orfers! We went in, were welcomed warmly, and driven with curiosity about the menu. While they seemed to do a much bigger delivery service than a sit down diner, we would have felt very comfortable eating lunch in one of the many booths.
We ween't sure what to order, but the lady taking orders showed us two options, and we chose the larger to share. We ordered a goat stew with lots of rice and stew base. While we waiting for the order, we had two samosas, as a snack; they were warm and flaky, not oily at all. They kindly served us each a bowl of deliciious, spicy soup: so yummy.
We took a huge box of food home (see photo below). The goat stew, the main entree, was also very delicious, a huge portion, easily shareable by more than two big eaters. Lots of fragrant, well seasoned rice, and plenty of big chunks of goat meat (be careful for the bones). The photo doesn't do it justice, because it was after a two hour drive to our lodging. But it was so deliciious heated up in the microwave for less than 2 minutes. She even gave us a banana, and a soft drink. What can I say? Easily one of the best, non-Asian rice dishes I have ever had the pleasure of eating! read more
