We met the Chioukh's son Matthieu at the Agricultural Food Fair in Levallois a few weeks ago before our holiday to Cazals
Since it is only 20-30 minutes from Cazals to Mauraux we decided to go there and see what they had to offer...well, its a farm full of ducks & geese amongst other animals!
We gave them a call - come when you like...
They make all manner of things: rillettes, confit, and many prepared dishes...100 odd € later and a nice chat with them both we left. The farm and its buildings seemed very well kept and in good condition; lots of safety instructions for visitors; and an emphasis on bio - so what's not to like
The ride and scenery alone with magnificent views of the Lot river as you drive through serious Cahors wine country were worth the expedition
So far we have only tackled the duck rillettes with the rest heading back home to England next week - so updates to come later. They are ALL meat, no filling...if the other dishes are the same, wow, well worth it
They've won lots of medals so it would seem we are not the only ones to like what they do...there are so many producers, how would you know where to start...well, try them...give them a call, there is always someone there
How to find them - there are several little roundabouts in Mauraux (which is tiny) one of which has a brown sign to Earl Mas de Saby as the top direction of say 5...its close to the old church out of town
Definitely to be recommended read more
