The waiters were friendly and knowledgable about the food. They were flexible, interested and quick to react, although to my experience a bit over the top. What I really liked is that they had no english menu or tourist geared dishes, but at the same time were flexible enough to explain everything. We had a 3 course meal with various dishes (from fish to meat) and all were excellent and in line with pricing (which was not cheap). It was a warm evening and we were happy to sit in the garden. Artichoke soup, Pea mousse (cold) and lamb were to be recommended, the chicken was too dry and not really inspiring. For dessert, I'd either recommend the Friandises with coffee (finally some good coffee at a good restaurant) or strawberries with cream (someone at another table had then and they looked delicious). All in all, fantastic experience if you can spend the buck and aim to avoid the tourist crowds in Lourmarin.

It's made up of three majestic mountain ranges, with hilltop villages and hiking trails and farmland throughout. It's no wonder that L'Auberge's free wifi account is named "Enjoy Nature Instead". If you want to explore the region in an appropriately rustic way, but still enjoy all the luxuries of French life (rich food, cheap wine, running water) L'Auberge des Seguins is the perfect home base. It's a converted farm, nestled in the valley beneath towering cliffs, with old stone cottages coverted into "hotel" rooms. Since you are in the middle of nowhere, breakfast & dinner are included in the room rate: 130 euros for 2 people. An amazing deal. There's a pool on site, hiking trails that literally leave steps from your room, a "Buvette" (bar) on site, and a big house that is now the main dining area & kitchen. It has a covered patio, where you'll sip local wines, and enjoy healthy-ish meals like whole trout & quinoa, bay-leaf wrapped goat cheese, and ratatouille. There are all kinds of tourists here: French, German, American, Dutch. Most of them are the serious outdoorsy types, hitting the road early for a hike, then congregating around the table for dinner time. Come here to explore, indulge, and re-engergize. It's France like very few people see it, and now...it's on Yelp!

It's a winery estate, with 22 rooms, a vineyard, an outdoor pool, and was originally a Working estate and home. It feels like a haven, with beautiful gardens and grounds, with walking paths and fountains, you hardly need to leave because it also has two restaurants on site, one a casual bistro, the other a stunning Michelin star rated restaurant. There is a full bar as well, and a lovely library for rainy afternoon relaxation. The majority of the employees speak English perfectly, but will entertain my poor attempts to engage in French. The hotel rooms are seriously like walking into a page from Restoration Hardware, the decode is elegant, the beds are comfortable (actual king size!) and they even pipe scents in throughout the hotel which are classy, understated, and leave you subtly sniffing around for the next Whig of something awesome. They also have a VERY small gym with some light dumbbells and cardio equipment, and a coed steam room. Anything you could want is here, with style and service beyond expectations.

Dinner, one of the best pieces of sea bass I have ever eaten, on a bed of braised fennel, my daughter had lamb cooked for 8hrs in a traditional French red wine sauce. My husband had a moist steak with eggplant and scalloped potato. All of us cleaned our plates and followed it with a homemade chocolate sorbet that was so decadent we shared it. It was the waiter's inappropriate behavior and the owner's total lack of apology that ruined the evening. My wife wasn't sure what "charolais" meant and asked me whether it was filet mignon. The waiter overheard her and started laughing to himself and commenting to other French guests. We were shocked and told the owner. The owner, without knowing what happened (he was quite far from us and could not have overheard), flatly denied that it could have happened and was completely unapologetic. My wife spoke French well and we had a French friend with us, and all of us were taken back by the owner's attitude. After we walked out, our children, who spoke fluent French, told us that the owner used a number of dirty French slangs when talking to us, e.g., engueler, as in "you cannot shout in my restaurant with your dog mouth." Though we were upset, we never shouted at the owner and would have never imagined that a proprietor would direct such words to his customers. If we didn't understand French, we would not have caught the waiter or the owner's rudeness. There are a number of nice restaurants in Bonnieux with equally good food but without the unpleasantness. We recommend Fournil and l'Arome.
