My mother lived ay Marycrest Heights for 6.5 years, from 2016 until 2022. I moved her out after she passed away and left the apartment totally immaculate. The refrigerator looked brand new, it was so clean. They kept her $1500.00 security deposit, that was supposed to be returned to us. They claim it turned into a "Community Fund" which is used to clean, paint, etc. That was not our understanding when she signed her original lease. No paperwork was found regarding this change in policy. I called numerous times to get this money issued back to us, without success. It has really soured me towards Marycrest and I do not recommend anyone moving there. They do not stand behind their signed leases/paperwork. My mother never agreed to this, nor did she ever sign anything agreeing to a " Community Fund". Pretty crappy! read more

I was a patient at Marycrest for almost two weeks following a 10-hour spine surgery, and my stay was great. They treated me with such kindness, yet attended to all of my medical, PT/OT needs. My nurses were wonderful, especially Alice, Emily and Maria, but my aide, Jamie, was phenomenal. She was the shining light of my stay. She anticipated my needs without me even asking. Her service was professional and always with a smile. There are some areas for improvement, hence my 4-star evaluation instead of 5. The food was hit or miss. But if there was not appetizing on the daily you could order off the alternative menu, which unfortunately was also hit or miss. The soup, sandwiches and salads were good. However, the burgers were as hard and dry as hockey pucks. Stay away from them. My biggest complaint is probably the most important deficiency- getting proper medication through their pharmacy provider, PharmAmerica. They are the most inefficient, unreliable service I've ever encountered. I required continuation of pain medication after extensive spine surgery.IT TOOK PHARMAMERICA ALMOST 3 DAYS TO SEND IN MY MEDICATION. My nurses called constantly to inquire about its delivery. PharmAmerica LIED to them, giving them false delivery times. I know because I overheard the conversations. Another medication was ordered for me through PharmAmerica and I did not receive it until 2 days before I was discharged! I would suggest that Marycrest seek another pharmacy provider, even though PharmAmerican controls the market in supplying medications to sub-acute and skilled nursing facilities. Bigger isn't always the best, and from my experience, PharmAmerica is the worst. In spite of these few negatives, I would definitely recommend Marycrest for your sub-acute (transition to home) care. Hopefully, I will never have to return to such, but if I did I would choose Marycrest. read more

Which would you prefer at the facility caring for your loved one; incompetence or indifference? At Marycrest, you don't have to choose - both are readily available 24/7. If Mom pulls the emergency cord at night, needing assistance getting off the toilet, she might wait 20 minutes or more even though she's on record as being too weak to sit up for that long, much less to get on and off the toilet on her own. If she'd pulled the cord because of severe medical distress, that 20+ minute wait could prove fatal. And this happens every single day. If she pulls the cord for help on the weekend, Mom's wait times go up dramatically, even when she's known to have severe oxygen problems. Weekend staff are routinely rude, absurdly slow, and often openly mean-spirited. One chose to argue with a confused, very elderly woman when her hearing aid fell out as she was being wheeled back to her room. "If it fell on the floor, I'd have HEARD it" she said, leaving mom in distress. Begging the "aide" to search her wheelchair was futile, though the family finally located it an hour later by just glancing under the cushion. Mom spent far too much time terrified that the $4000 hearing aid she depends upon was gone for good. Compassion? ZERO. When mom complained to the "regular" staff on Monday, they told her straight up that "yeah, the weekend people are the worst." This is coming from the staff, word for word. Orders were put in for a bi-weekly blood draw to confirm oxygen levels in mom's blood. Those orders were overlooked, and we only found out by repeatedly asking (for days) what progress she was making. A week later, it happened again. A woman in danger of losing consciousness *again* from dangerously low blood oxygen was left to fend for herself under the general instructions to the staff to "keep an eye on her" while doctor-ordered tests were not performed. When she needed to see the doctor, she had to see theirs because she's in "their care". He shows up, they said, some time in the late afternoon or evening - except when he doesn't. We couldn't even get a time window as wide as the one from your beloved local cable company. Families can sit literally all day as we have, waiting for an exam that never happens, needing to act on behalf of the patient who has given medical power of attorney because her terminal diagnosis left her frightened and confused. It's a helpless feeling and utterly routine here. If she asks for a meal brought to her room, because she's feeling too weak to go to the dining area. it comes an hour or more later, and has inevitably long since gone cold. The tray sits outside her room until somebody gets around to it - dropped off by one person whose job seems to stop at the lobby, waiting to be picked up by another person whenever it they notice it sitting there. This happens literally EVERY meal. The walk from dining hall to the room? Maybe 100 feet. Complain verbally? They nod, but nothing changes and no official response ever comes. Have family friends complain, in writing? Same result. Have the patient complain in writing? No response, and no change. This level of indifference is cruel. We needed routine medical records passed along to our mom's new assisted living center. We reminded the staff about this routine requirement for a week, and they gave us breezy, confident assurances. Those records are practically on their way right this minute! But the moving day came, and no records had been sent - leaving mom in limbo, unable to move into the home because there was no proof she doesn't have TB. Even the most senior management, reached by phone, would do nothing until the doctor could be reached and, well, he could not be reached. Awkward. As she finally departed Marycrest, despite a week of reminders and check-ins from the family, mom's oxygen - which requires a prescription and prior arrangements with a supplier - was never ordered for her. The promised arrangements with a supplier had not been made, and the responsible party was on vacation. Oh, and it's a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend. Her family doctor can't help, because the medical records that would support his writing a prescription had not been sent and would take a long time to get there. Sent away with a "full bottle" of oxygen, no prescription, and no ETA on getting this sorted out, we found out that the bottle had in fact been nearly empty and was now drained. A couple of hours after being discharged, Mom is back in an ambulance being rushed to ER with dangerously low oxygen. Life in peril. I do not know where one draws the line between indifference, incompetence, or malpractice. But some or all of these words evidently apply to our experience. Without family constantly checking up on these people, what might have happened? Two stars rather than one because, well, mom's still alive. But no thanks to this place. read more

By far one of the worst facilities in Livonia. Expect your parent or loved one to sit for hours without being checked or changed. They claim a patient is supposed to be lifted out of their bed every 2 hours, Good luck with that there. We were seeing 5 hours plus ON A GOOD DAY and we were lucky if they sat him up ONE time on most days. As for their physical therapy department, expect the least amount of attention and work possible from their staff who is basically on their cell phones most of the time as it is. They will put the patient in front of a machine and walk away. No monitoring or guidance. If it was not for my mom to sit and baby sit him there, they would have messed up his medicine several times and given him the wrong doses at the wrong time. She corrected them on a daily basis and had to literally beg them to do anything and TIP the nurses to get them to do things such as change him. If your press the call button, be ready to wait for an hour or more. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE. Do your homework and read the reviews. You will be glad you did. This is one facility that only cares about the dollar signs, not your loved one. EDIT: Once again Marycrest has "copied and pasted" one of their bogus responses. They know who we are, we are not hiding from them. If they really cared and wanted to talk to us, they would have called...... yet we are still waiting.....and waiting. It feels like we are back at Marycrest....... waiting. read more

Three years ago, my mom had a good experience at Marycrest. That's why, when she fractured her pelvis on Aug. 30th, we requested Marycrest for her rehab. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE CHOICE! Maybe the management has changed, or maybe Covid compromised their standards, (or made them feel they have no accountability), but i would have rather brought my mom home to my house and brought in therapists, than to have sent her here, after what we experienced. She got to the rehab gym 5x a week for 45 minutes. a few times, they came to her room and did her rehab there. Otherwise, they left her in an often soiled diaper in her bed, and took forever to respond to her call button. She had three showers in 19 days, (supposed to get two showers a week), and some of her clothes simply got thrown away because she sat in soiled diapers so long that the pants were not cleanable. I got my mom out early, (although they said they needed 48 hours to complete the paperwork to let her go?!), and when she came home, she was able to do absolutely nothing on her own, having been able to walk just fine with her walker 19 days earlier when she went in that poor excuse for a rehab. She also came home with multiple bruises and cuts, as well as a burn on her chest. They said she spilled coffee, but how hot was that coffee!? to leave a burn like that?! Unbelievably neglectful and borderline abusive. Avoid this place at all cost! read more

My parent stayed here for appx 10 days. The facility was nice, but the staff seems to not know anything. Anytime a question was asked the standard answer was "I'm not sure." This is from the receptionist on to the nurses and CNAs. The doctor barely made an appearance and when she did, she was unimpressive as well. She tried to talk you in circles whenever having a conversation, she wouldn't look at a deep incision from a surgery, relied on the nurses to keep her informed and had to be forced to meet certain requests that my family had. They were slow to respond and just provided overall poor care. Most of the staff was very friendly, but friendly does not make up for a huge lack of knowledge and professionalism. read more

My mother is currently a resident in the rehabilitation section. The PT and OT are wonderful, however the the nursing care and CENA are awful. My mother fell her first night there after waiting 30 minutes or more for someone to assist her with going to the restroom. She has fallen at least 2 other times for the same reason. One CENA put her wheelchair in the bathroom room and refused to take it out when my mother asked. She was rude and very disrespectful. My mother has asked for assistance getting dressed, she was told the CENAs dont do that. It was the PT's job. I have filed a complaint with the State of Michigan. read more

My brother received care here for several months after a stroke in 2016. The facility is beautiful and the staff attentive, helpful and caring. I don't think it would be possible to find a better facility. I also think it is nice that it is right next to Independant living apartments, which would be very convenient for couples where one might need nursing facility care. My brother said that if he ever needed nursing care again, Marycrest is where he would want to be. That says it all. read more

My mother was here for 14 days January 2019 after a critical illness. The OT and PT therapist were wonderful. However, the nursing staff and care here is awful. My mom fell in the bathroom on her second day at the facility. The nursing staff was negligent, at best, leaving my mother laying on the floor flat on her back on the hard tile. When they finally, the arrived they did not check to see if she had injured herself (she hurt her back) but were more concerned with filing a report. I tried to follow up with anyone in the nursing staff for 1 1/2 months after her fall to determine why she did not receive appropriate care and no one responded. Please, if you care about your loved ones, DO NOT put them in this facility. Nursing staff is terrible. They spend more time on their cell phones, talking at the desks. Lack of any concern for patients. read more

My grandfather was put here in-between is stays at Beaumont hospital. This place is so bad. Such a nice facility ruined on such a horrible, unprofessional staff. It took them an hour to get a glass of water to my grandfather. An hour! The man had stage 4 liver cancer. hope the manager sees this and cleans house. Horrible staff. read more

Marycrest Assisted Living is wonderful. I would recommend to anyone looking for Assisted Living for their loved one.

The facility is a little worn, but it's clean. Most of the staff care and it shows. They took good care of my Pop in his final months. He was grateful and so were we. The administrative staff worked with us on financial issues and were just great. If you're looking for a longterm care facility that's humble but has a big heart, this is the place. read more
