My husband's coworker recommended this place and I called to set up a free prenatal visit to meet the newborn team and see if it would be a good fit. The moment I called to set up this appointment I knew we would be in good hands. The receptionist was so unbelievably sweet! Great first impression! We met with Mindy, the lactation consultant, and Janice Martin, MD. We left the visit knowing this would be the place! Fast forward and now our little girl is 2 months old and I am still singing praises for Pediatric Care Specialist. Mindy was such a vital support for my family during the tough few weeks of attempting to breast feed. She even gave me her home phone number over the Christmas holiday-- who does that? So thankful for her help! We ended up switching to see one of their nurse practitioners, Megan McGown, because she saw us during our first visit and we fell in love! She is so encouraging, gentle, and patient! She answers all our questions-- and we have a lot as new parents! Such a relief to find a place that we feel confident taking our little one to for the next 18 years!

My daughter was born with a hole in her heart, and their Cardiology Department took incredible care of her from infancy to 6 years old; when we finally had the situation corrected. Both my children are severe asthmatics, and aside from them visiting with Dr. Jay Portnoy (Allergy and Asthma MD), they also see the nurse practitioner when Dr. Portnoy is unable to be seen on short notice, and both of them are fabulous caregivers. My children also see Stephanie O'Toole, with Children's Mercy Neurology Department in Olathe Medical Center for migraine headaches. No matter how busy the emergency room is, whenever I bring my son or daughter in with uncontrollable asthma, they bring them back for treatment immediately. We have zero wait time. The on-call doctors in the ER are knowledgeable, experienced and extremely trustworthy with my children's delicate problem of severe asthma. My daughter even had a 3-day stay once for her asthma; and I stayed the entire time with her. Every moment a nurse or doctor was in the room, or even a nurse assistant or janitorial staffer, my daughter was entertained, fussed over, and treated amazingly. My daughter is also currently seeing sleep specialists and we have a sleep study scheduled for her in January '19 to evaluate for poor sleep. I always feel secure that my children are being treated with the utmost expertise and concern for their well-being. I have ZERO complains about this place. I highly recommend them AT ANY TIME for ANY purpose.

I had went to a local urgent care first and they told me I needed to go to this hospital for my…read moretwo-year-old grandson who had an injury from falling to his mouth area. I took him to the emergency room entrance and the security guard where you have to put all your items on a conveyor belt and they search your bags, was very nice. I was not quite expecting this at Children's Hospital. But regardless he was nice and then he directed me to the check-in woman right around the corner who took my ID and scanned it, and I was given a sticker with my photo on it that I had to wear on me at all times. I was then directed to a nurse at the front desk who was not welcoming at the beginning and had a general attitude. She got a little bit better as she looked over my grandson, but she was just generally not very pleasant. The security guard had jokingly said I hit the jackpot because the waiting room was empty, which was a miracle. I was immediately called back with my grandson and a triage nurse looked at him and then brought us back to a room. We were than seen by another nurse who talked to us about what happened and generally looked him over and then said a provider would be in. Everything was going smoothly and quickly and then all of a sudden we were just waiting forever for the provider. The next person that came in was the woman that took the insurance and she was very nice. Then after that, another nurse came in and she said she was the new nurse because of a shift change. And I said whatever happened to the provider we've been in here for a long time and we were the only people in the whole waiting room. So then she said well it's gotten really crazy out there now and I said well, I understand, but we were here and absolutely no one was here. And I know they most likely base the immediate visits on how injured a child is, but the amount of time it took a provider to come in was too long. After I brought it up then I got a text, saying a provider was looking at the chart and would be in soon. At this point, I'm wondering if they just forgot about us because the kids were so good in the room and we were quiet and not complaining! So the doctor comes in, and he was gentle and good with my grandson, but he spoke very quietly, and I could not barely hear him. Then he suggested three tests while we were there for Covid, RSV, and the flu, which I said was fine. Those tests are rapid tests and we get again were left in there and I said we're gonna be leaving and you can call me with the results because by this time it was past 9 PM and they had no dinner and they had already seen him for what he was there for. So then after I said that the doctor came back in and said the test were negative and said that the nurse would come in and check us out. So I waited again and I finally went out there and she's just sitting at the desk and I can tell she completely forgot about us. I said we are waiting to get checked out and then she just went over to a computer and printed off the pages and that was it. So I was not happy with the general attitude towards the adults in general. They were good towards my two-year-old grandson who was excellent to wait that long with no dinner. Also, as soon as I rounded the corner, I heard the nurses whispering about me. I was completely nice and totally professional and I think if they were forgotten about, they might have felt the same way. So I would not go back unless we absolutely had to. I think the thought that kept coming to my mind was that they have seen so much and dealt with so many families that they have just kind of become hardened. In comparison, the urgent care that I visited first, everyone there was truly kind and compassionate, and there was a big difference in the attitude between the two medical institutions.

At another point he said that no vaccine would ever hurt my child. As someone who was vaccine injured and deals with the repercussions of that injury every day, this was very jarring to hear. He has not once provided informed consent to us the entire time we have been at this practice since my son was born. It is not ethical to say that vaccines pose no risk and no doctor can honestly promise that nothing is going to happen because that is not in their control. The lying an intense pushback against parents who are simply looking to do what is best for their children makes me reconsider all vaccines. We are a family that accepts 95% of the recommended vaccines and now I will be digging deeper into all of their inserts and making decisions about what is best for my family because that is my job. My job is not to line the pockets of greedy doctors at the possible expense of my children's health and safety.
