I noticed this place open a few days ago and dropped in at lunch a few days later…read more The place looks like it's still being renovated but looks decent so far. I looked around and I thought you could only get a large order of fried chicken and was about to walk out the door but after asking about it the person working mentioned a lunch special. It's 5 pieces of boneless fried chicken, fries and 1 can of pop for $12.99. They really need a better lunch special but I decided to go with this. 10 minutes later and I had my lunch special and was out the door. I wasn't asked how I wanted the chicken and I did see 3 sauces on the counter. They did toss some seasoning on it before packing but I didn't get a good look at it. I decided to try it as is. I got home and was excited to try this. Chicken pieces weren't small but weren't large either. They seemed a bit bland but the fries were well seasoned and really crispy. The chicken was pretty crispy as well. Overall it was OK, probably one of the better fried chickens in the area. If you have a craving, give this place a try but there's a few places in town I do enjoy more. They did just recently open so they might still be working out the kinks. I'll probably head back another time in the future. If you have a fried chicken craving and are in the area, give this place a try! If you get it sauced let me know how it is!

It's my first foray into Korean fried chicken and I wasn't exactly disappointed but I wasn't exactly "wowed" either. I got the Golden Cheese chicken pieces, a small order. The cheese is a combination of real grated cheese (unsure of the kind, sorry) and Kraft Dinner (?) powder. I think it is a generous amount of chicken for a small order, I think I was served 10 various pieces for $21.99 + tip. I know that it is considered 'pricey' but these aren't small Buffalo chicken wings. They're decent sized drumsticks, actual wings, etc.. I could not finish it and will be bringing the leftovers home for my boyfriend to try. I would go back to try the "Golden Mustard" flavour/sauce, so I am not writing "Golden One Fried Chicken" off just yet.

Wow! I am really impressed with this chain. Frequently visiting St. Laurent mall, I walked the food…read morecourt over and over again, and just wanted something different, and "healthier". I nervously popped into Poulet Rouge, intimidated by the menu and all the choices and received the friendliest service. I ordered a mini bowl with lettuce as a base. They offer plant based chicken, and opted for that, going with the shisha garlic flavour. The mini comes with a choice of 1 sauce and 3 toppings. I went with the chipotle sauce which had some nice kick to it. I topped it with cucumber, feta and tzatziki. The bowl was a perfect size for a quick light dinner. The plant based chicken was smokey and it was grilled to order. They have a couple seats to dine in away from the food court. Service was super quick and they were so friendly when I asked for recommendations. (sorry I forgot to take a picture, but I will next time I am there, because its now a new fave)

You can get everything without chicken too if you are a vegetarian/vegan, but they do not have alternate proteins. This location is in the St Laurent Shopping Centre (the other location in Ottawa is at the Rideau Centre). It's in the food court, but they actually have their own private seating, although you can bring your food to the main food court seating as well. I've had Poulet Rouge before, in Montreal, and at the Rideau Centre location as well. I really like the food at this chain. This visit I got the build your own Rouge Bowl ($10.99). You get to choose a chicken flavour (Hercules/lemon, Shisha/garlic, Fusion/BBQ or Volcano/spicy), a base (brown rice or bulgur, you can upgrade to quinoa for an additional cost), a dressing, and 7 toppings. I got the Hercules chicken with brown rice, no dressing, spinach, tomatoes, beets, bell peppers, black beans, cheese, and tzatziki (which counts as a topping and not a dressing). The food here is consistent with the location at Rideau. I feel like they might be a bit more generous with the meats in Montreal, but it's been a while since I've been there, so it might be they've shrunk portions everywhere. The chicken portion is still good, and my bowl was still very tasty. Service was friendly and the place looks clean. Poulet Rouge is definitely a welcomed addition to the St. Laurent food court :)

Eggroll Express - Steamed rice (complimentary, came with the General Tao Tofu)

The Short Version: Take out only Chinese restaurant in Old…read moreOttawa South. Food was just OK in my opinion. The Long Version: I've known about Eggroll Express for many years now but just recently got around to trying it. What finally enticed me was a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal on UberEats plus a save $12 when you spend $40 or more. I saw that they had Cantonese Chow Mein on BOGO for $22 and General Tao Tofu on BOGO for $21, which totaled $43 minus the additional $12 deal, so it turned out to be only $31 for four dishes. I couldn't pass that up, LOL. I ordered on my UberEats app and then drove to the restaurant from work. True to what the app said it was packed and ready to go by the time I arrived. Pick up was quick and seamless and staff were courteous. The Cantonese Chow Mein was not bad, but I found the BBQ pork way too fatty for my liking. It did also have two large shrimp, some lean pieces of chicken, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, and Napa cabbage. No wow factor for me but it was decent. The General Tao tofu had good flavour. It came with onions, broccoli and green peppers. The tofu is deep fried tofu puffs. They were a little bit spongy in texture, but this is the nature of that type of tofu. Again I found the food was satisfactory but lacking in wow factor. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a small container of complementary steamed white rice. With the multiple deals I got each dish worked out to be $7.75. For this price I would get the Cantonese Chow Mein again. I personally would not pay the regular price of $19 for the Cantonese Chow Mein. Bottom line, it's North Americanized Chinese takeout. The restaurant is exclusively takeout there is no dine-in option. Although there is a metal bench and a single chair for you to sit and wait for your takeout order. Street parking only. The Long Version: The Toro Eats and Treats is only open Mondays to Thursdays 10am-3:30pm and Fridays 10am-3pm and it's not near my house nor my usual places of work, so I can only go on a day off work because I work regular weekday hours so they are closed when I'm not working. So on our staycation, my husband and I did a food crawl of eateries we normally wouldn't be able to go to because of work. Toro Eats and Treats was one of our stops. We got an El Gringo taco ($6) and a Carnitas taco ($6) and a side of rice and frijoles ($4) to share. The El Gringo is ground beef and it came with lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheese. I added pickled onions, medium salsa and avocado crema. I skipped on the jalapenos and cilantro. The carnitas came with pickled onions, salsa and crema. I skipped on the jalapenos and cilantro with this taco too. The rice and frijoles (beans) came with queso, pickled onions, salsa and crema. The tortillas were a bit hard/tough. The good thing is that the tacos did not fall apart, but I like my tortillas a bit softer and less tough to chew on. The fillings were excellent. Good flavour. We also enjoyed the rice and frijoles. Despite all the toppings, it wasn't too wet and soggy like at some other places. Service was courteous. There's lots of indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. Decor is colourful and cheerful. The address is on Slater St and if you enter the building on Slater there is a way to get into the restaurant but the main restaurant entrance is on O'Connor St. It's where the Marcello's used to be, next to the Bridgehead Coffee.
