I am a working professional, communication matters to me, and Thursdays were particularly difficult for me. Unfortunately, communication became one of the biggest problems with this representation. I frequently felt that Sean did not listen to me or take the information I provided seriously. When I researched publicly available information about my own case and brought facts to his attention, instead of discussing the substance with me, I was sometimes questioned about how I obtained the information. Conversations about the potential financial value of my case were also unnecessarily difficult. I eventually moved important communication to email because verbal communication had become so frustrating. I was also disappointed by how much administrative work I felt I had to perform myself. At intake, I personally obtained the police report and copied and provided records at my own expense. I hired a personal-injury firm expecting that once I supplied the necessary information, the firm would take responsibility for moving the case forward. My greatest concern, however, was the evaluation of my injuries. I repeatedly felt that my case was being treated primarily as a soft-tissue injury despite my concerns that something more significant was going on. When settlement negotiations began, the insurer's initial offer was approximately $10,000, which would not even have covered the medical expenses associated with the claim. After approximately three rounds of negotiations, the offer had only reached roughly $20,000. I ultimately changed attorneys. After changing representation and further developing the medical evidence, my claim was presented as involving a significant cervical spine injury rather than simply a soft-tissue case. My subsequent attorney obtained the full $100,000 insurance policy limit. That difference in outcome is ultimately what defines my experience. I understand that no attorney can guarantee a particular settlement and that additional medical evidence developed over time. However, as the person who has to live with this injury, I needed an attorney who would listen when I raised concerns, investigate them seriously, communicate professionally, and be prepared to litigate if a reasonable resolution could not be reached. I did not feel that I received that from Sean. I found his communication at times condescending, and I often felt that discussions became more about challenging what I was saying than listening to the client. I also entered the representation believing I had hired someone prepared to take the matter to court if necessary, while my experience ultimately left me believing that settlement was the overriding priority. Switching attorneys was difficult and caused additional stress and delay, but in my case it ultimately resulted in a dramatically different evaluation and outcome. Based on my personal experience, I would not use Sean Stokes nor would i recommend this law firm.
