The server helped me pick a popular drink, she let me try any of their tap beers before deciding what I wanted. We had the sausage appetizer and it was delicious! We will definitely be back!

Smoked kielbasa as an appetizer on the menu? Heck yeah, I'm here for it. And you know what? The…read moresmoked kielbasa was even better than I was hoping it would be. It came with three different sauces: beer-infused mustard, tangy barbecue and creamy horseradish. I could have just sat here and ate charred pork and drank beer and I would have been happy. We also got a Caesar salad, which was OK but would have been a bit better if it came dressed -- the dressing came on the side. The wedge salad was good but was less of a wedge and more of a regular salad. Fenwick Farms has a kids menu, which features things like cheeseburgers, buttered noodles, chicken strips and other kid-friendly foods. Each kids meal comes with a side and a dessert (ice cream sundae), although we didn't get our ice cream, but it was fine because my kids didn't need anymore sugar that day. Speaking of kids: They have free arcade games to play! My kids played Pac-Man and NBA Jam while we waited for our food. The Fenwick Farms Brewing Co. beer is made right here at the brewery, and this is the first and only craft brewery in Rensselaer. They have 30 different beers on tap (most their own, some guest beers), and they offer flights. Indiana knows how to do craft beer, and FFBC is another great example of great beer.

Ok, if you are looking for one of those spit polished, heavily themed Mexican restaurants ... this…read moreisn't it. If you are looking for something more like a family restaurant, far removed from the tourist areas in almost any Mexican city or town, then you have found the right place. The place is clean. The chairs, tables and booths mismatched and well used but serviceable. The menus photocopied. The lighting is a little harsh. There's the compulsory photo of the Pope and the Madonna hanging in the corner. All of this and great food combine to make this my go to place for authentic Mexican cooking. I just sat down for a carry it dinner of 3 tacos pastor ($7.95 - Mexican style with cilantro, onion and tomato, thank you) some very good rice and the best beans I have had since I moved here from Chicago in 2005. I wish I could have shown you but I thought about pictures after I ate ... the smell was driving me wild! If your looking for real, authentic, family cooked food ... Get off of I-65 at exit 215, drive about 3 miles East to the stop sign, turn left and look for the orange building on the right. You won't be sorry. I'm thinking about going back again tomorrow!

What a fun place! When I travel, I try to find the places the truckers used to call a "Local choke…read more& puke" (maybe they still do?) that are locally owned diners. I already know what I'm going to find at portion-controlled franchise places, and the local diners tend to have a colorful atmosphere all their own. This is such a place! It's a typical diner as you enter, a counter on the left with stools, booths along the far wall on the right and tables down the middle. I knew I was in the right place when I saw that sign that says, "Beware of Attack Waitress." Over a large table in the back is a sign that says, "Reserved for Farmers, Fisherman, Golfers, and other liars." The ringleader of the guys at the liar's table struck up a conversation with me, asking where I was from (my Green Bay Packers jacket might have been a giveaway that I was not from town.) I told him I probably qualified for the liars' table because I used to sell used cars. He said, "Well, that's about the same as an equipment dealer!" and waved me over. As you might guess, Buck is the local implement and tractor dealer. I ordered a pancake and coffee, while Buck and I, along with several local farmers (not much to do on the farm in February) began swapping stories, most of which were probably true. The Attack Waitress wrinkled up my check and said, "No need to add it up, it's $2.80" and I paid her right away. She disappeared, but came back a few minutes later and explained she's the only one who can work the cash register and had to get to the bank. That's not gonna happen in a franchise place, which is exactly why I look for places like Janet's. The food is predictably average, which is exactly what I look for in a local joint. I'll be there next time I get to Rensselaer, whenever that might be.

Classic example of a roadside diner. Food is okay service is good but somewhat outdated.read more
