My history with Divorce lawyers through the years on my divorce case has been frustrating, expensive and the results have always been not in my favor. Due to unforeseen additional problems through the years with my Divorce/custody/support etc., of over 15 years, I was fortunate to find Eric Martinelli's Law Firm to assist me with my latest issues. My first impression of Eric at my consultation was very professional. Eric listens and comprehended my complicated and emotional situation with a genuine caring/sympathetic demeanor. Eric discussed all the various approaches/tactics to resolve the case. When we were done with the meeting, I knew exactly what I could expect in terms of pros/cons to each approach. I immediately felt comfortable and at ease after presenting the facts of my case to Eric. At all times during his representation, I knew exactly what was happening with my case. Eric always kept me up to date and what steps he was taking to move the case forward. At no time did I ever feel that Eric was doing anything unnecessary to create added legal fees. I was not disappointed. Throughout the long process and numerous court appearances, Eric was always prepared, organized, detailed and presented my case with tenacity to the Judge brilliantly. Whenever the other lawyer would try and admit evidence that shouldn't be admitted, Eric knew exactly what evidence of other code would prevent the lawyer from succeeding. Eric was not confrontational with opposing counsel or to the judge, and was always professional, but could be very firm and aggressive when needed. I believe that his prior experience as a Los Angeles Police Officer for many years does not allow him to be intimidated by other lawyers, judges etc. Eric approaches legal matters with an initial emphasis to settle the dispute, which is FAR different from the other lawyers I worked with. For example, my prior lawyers would always want to race to the courthouse for a hearing. Of course, they want to go to court because that's where they make all their money. Given the overcrowding with courtrooms, it is not uncommon to wait all day just to be called by the judge, which can result in $3k in legal fees in just one day. Eric always tried to resolve or settle matters prior to going to court. Sometimes he was successful with settlement offers, other times we needed to involve the judge. My point, though, is that Eric at least tried to settle whatever could be settled to keep the legal fees to a minimum. Needless to say, I was overwhelmingly pleased with the outcome of my case. In my mind, it was an uphill battle and an almost impossible task for the judge to rule in my favor, but it happened! I honestly believe that no other lawyer could have done what Eric has done for me. Just to place into perspective Eric's dedication, he fought against my ex-wife's attempt to obtain additional support after she waived the support. I was out of money and couldn't afford the additional litigation, so I was resigned to having to pay additional support for the rest of my life because my wife would not get a job. The reason I'm writing a review is because I flew from Texas to be present with my sister when she met with her divorce attorney for the first time. I found Eric to be both professional and extremely kind. My sister had a list of questions to ask and he patiently covered each one. If you are going through a divorce DO NOT do it without an attorney! Divorces are emotional and you need a rational expert by your side to protect your rights and legal interests. My mother's divorce was supposed to be amicable until my father got a new wife and then things turned ugly. After 28 years he wanted my mother to get much less than she was legally entitled to. Between the use of a paralegal to prepare the divorce paper work and a failed appearance in front of a tough family law judge my mom was about to lose thousands of dollars in support. Eric sat down with us and patiently listened to our very messy situation. At first look, he did not predict a positive outcome. I had reached out to several AV family law attorneys that either did not get back to me or told me there was nothing that could be done to help my mom regain her right to spousal support. Mr. Martinelli reviewed our case thoroughly, poured over all the paper work filed with the court and found something that we had missed. He researched up case law and realized that we had a case. I interviewed Eric about six months ago. He seemed right like the right fit for my needs. And he was. At first, he tried to be reasonable and work with my ex to get me the support I needed and was entitled to receive. After a while, though, it was clear the my ex had no intention of paying, so Eric changed his approach and became very aggressive. Unfortunately, my ex still resisted, but it didn't matter. At that point Eric filed a for a hearing and I was awarded child support that was three times more than what my ex wanted to pay. Is Eric the cheapest lawyer out there? No. But you get what you pay for. I started with the cheapest lawyer and got cheap results. That is to say I got no results. However, I bet you my ex now wishes he would have cooperated. I would rather not give any stars!!! I wouldn't recommend this lawyer at all to anyone that I know ever!! He was awful! I was going through a horrible divorce! I felt like he didn't listen to anything that I said! I felt like he really was one sided...not a woman's lawyer at all! He kept charging me...for what?!!! He didn't do anything for me to help resolve all the issues. Basically told me I really don't have a say in the matter with a lot of things. He made me feel hopeless. In response to Eric Martinelli's comment: The problem I had with our meeting was the attitude of "just give up, nobody cares about the other factors at hand, this order is still in effect from 2005". Not one, but two other attorneys have said that we have options to negate these allegations. The one I am hiring has twice as much experience in these matters as you, Mr. Martinelli. And she is HIGHLY regarded. That tells me that our case is not as simple as it gets, though as you said yourself, you seem to believe it is. Regarding the email exchange, free of charge, you requested I retrieve documents before our free consultation. You advised me that I could pick up said documents. This turned out to be untrue, by the way. That was the only thing we exchanged emails about. As for phone calls, the only phone call I made was to confirm our appointment time, besides my initial call. As for your thoughts on dealing with the same type of case with the same judge- this is news to me. You told me that judge has retired during our meeting. Sorry that you feel this is an attack on you, but I am simply reviewing based on the contrast between your approach and hers. Original post: I went for a consultation with Mr. Martinelli today. He was very nice, but he quickly flipped through my case documents without thoroughly reading them. Most of the papers we were served with were blurry so I am not sure how he would have seen half of the issues I am dealing with. My case is complex and requires an attorney who will research, get a complete picture of the issues at hand, and mostly, someone who wants to see justice prevail. Unfortunately I felt that he wasn't willing to look deeper into the situation. He never offered to contact the courts to obtain all of the documents (not just the ones we have in our possession). He didn't offer any game plan. Why would I hire an attorney who doesn't feel any desire to research and guide me on solutions? After speaking with two other attorneys today, attorneys with more experience than Eric, I was told by both of them that I have many options to explore. I was able to give a full picture of our situation to them and they had very helpful insight which I didn't get from Eric. He was quick to jump to conclusions, which were to basically non solutions, which made me lose hope until speaking with the other attorneys. The attorney I plan to retain has years more experience in my classification of lawsuit, and she is highly regarded within the industry by her peers as well, so this isn't some low level attorney just looking to take my money for a quick buck. Her advice was great, and we have a meeting next week to get a game plan together. As a side note, she also has a 5 star rating out of almost 80 reviews, most of which were from people in our exact legal situation.
