Eventually I ended up at Heuerstyle because it was relatively close, highly rated, and (most importantly?) I could book online. I left a note via Google Translate saying that hopefully we can get by with pictures and broken English, and Jan-Mark replied almost immediately saying that English wouldn't be a problem. I saw Eylem, and she was fantastic. She speaks German, Turkish, and a small amount of English. Combine that with the fact that my German classes haven't started yet, and there was very little language overlap. We had some fun bits of vocabulary (she referred to my cowlick as "a tornado", when I said I wasn't picky she said, "...like swine?"), but we made it through. Honestly, her English was far better than she had implied, and the actual haircut was a great experience. The shop itself is really nice with a garden out back, but I got to spend a little more time in the garden than I would have preferred because they were running about 40 minutes late. However, considering everything else, I'm more than willing to give this a pass and assume it's not the normal situation. Also, considering how late it was, I was worried that it would be rushed, but I never once felt like they were just hurrying me out to finish up for the day. Despite the fact that I'm moving to the other side of the Alster, I do believe this will be my regular shop.

My hairdresser Eylem spent like an hour and a half on my hair, making sure it was perfect and exactly how I wanted it. She's clearly very experienced and cares about doing a good job. But unfortunately I walked away with a very expensive Disaster!!!! I walked in with the idea of my normal highlights and cut (with a picture) . We decided to go for highlights and lowlights with a shoulder lengths cut. Also, the amount of highlight were factored in due to the idea of wearing a pony tail. Instead I received highlights and lowlights that are hard to detect and a nightmare of a haircut that's about 2 1/2 to 3 inches too short. Not to mention all the confusion over pricing!!!! 81€ later I was handed a blow dryer to finish up the job..... Really!!!!! When I expressed the unhappiness of the cut, it was..... Well try it out we can always fix it later or it's still a little wet. I now have hair that I can't even pull into a pony tail to show off my nonexistent highlights. I really don't understand pricing of this place and the fact that everyone charges the same amount but have different levels of experience. Also, the charge per foil and extra cost to dry. You would think as hairstylist they would want people walking out of their shop with great looking hair. Instead they want to milk you for another 10€ or so to finish the job that they started!!! I walked out of there looking like I spent the day at the beach. Just a horrible horrible experience and don't even get me started about the smoke smell due to the window being opened on the patio ( smoking section)!! Overall..... Enter at your own Risk!!!!!

I am of Asian descent and if your looking for a bomb haircut. This guy knows what he is doing. I used to live in San Francisco where I get haircuts from a Paul Mitchell trained stylist and this guy pretty much does the same thing. its hard to find a stylist that can work with my hair. I trust this guy with my hair. He doesn't know English, but enough to understand what you want. He was not my first try, but I am glad I found him. Ill be coming back every month as long as I am here in Hamburg! Its pretty convenient also as it is located right of the U-1 on Wartenau. Happy cuts!
