Had to call three times on day before to get exact time, though promised to be informed by 5. Was told 11am - happened at ~2pm. Prep went well, competent staff. Anesthesioloist thorough and knowledgeable. Surgery went well. Regardless, I was very anxious and in alotta pain. As predicted, two days in recovery/stabilization. I am/was an easy patient with no major complications. Regardless, excellent staff, attentive, caring, pleasant to me and my visitors. Shout out to Elizabeth and James, the head nurses on day and night shifts in the 6th floor ortho wing. Release evaluations were complete and focused. Great experience for what I needed to endure. 2-4 month recovery underway. A difficult process made tolerable by the staff! Jim

The wait time is always excessive. 2 people or 20 people in the waiting room and it is always at least 2 hours. The staff is at best disinterested. I've had a Dr there try to argue with me about my allergy to penicillin. Even though I had the allergy bracelet and it was in my chart. On the last time I was there I waited in the er waiting room almost 6 hours, when I was finally in a room I waited another 5 before I saw a "Dr" and tests were requested. 4 hours later I left AMA. (I had seen Medical staf Nurses Dr etm for about 20 minutes total) I immediately went to the Belvoir hospital. In about 6 hours I had finished all the tests, I was admitted and transferred to an inpatient room and surgery was scheduled for the morning. I've been to several hospitals and emergency rooms in several states over the years and the ECU Emergency room is by far the worst. The ECU Medical Center as whole has tied for the worst.

Overall I received great medical care by 95% of the staff for the 4 days I was there. I had a bad…read moreexperience with one nurse while I was there. I won't mention her name on the internet because I'm going to report her for intentional harm and negligence. I was lucky and the ED wasn't busy the day I arrived and I was given pain meds I needed promptly. I was admitted and in a room fairly quickly based on my MANY encounters at hospitals. Here's where it gets a little strange. The doctor REFUSED to change my pain medication until I basically told him off and then he increased the dosage of the oral pain med by very little, and left me on the morphine I told him ony worked for 30min then actually increased my pain by 100%. Thursday and Friday the medical treatment was some of the best team effort I've ever experienced in 57 years of being in and out of the hospital more times than any 6 of my family and friends put together. However BEWARE OF THE WEEKEND "FILL INS" AND EVERY SHIFT CHANGE. The only thing that I can truly say is just horrible and dangerous company practice, is that in 4 days of being there I wasn't allowed any sleep. Now I don't mean someone came in every 2 hours or so to check on me and woke me up and then I got to go back to sleep, like every other hospital I've ever stayed in (and like I said that's a bunch) No I mean every 15 minutes someone else was entering the room or an equipment alarm went off or any number of reasons I was intentionally spoken to or disturbed. This practice (and apparently basically company policy) is going to end up killing patients. I only was allowed 4 hours of sleep total in that 4 days of treatment. You can't heal if you can't rest. They have a good base team, but from now on I'll be going back to Duke health even though they're a long drive and risking long wait times at the ED.

The rooms were clean, and the nurses and doctors were friendly and knowledgeable. All the nurses kept checking on my mother throughout the day and night making sure she was ok. Everyone was very professional and very motivated to do their jobs to standards. The physical therapy staff were also very professional. I have absolutely no complaints as far as how my mother was treated while being there at the ECU Health Beaufort Hospital. Special thanks to the true professionals: Kristy, Darien, Shannon, Soos, Latoria, Racheli, Caroline, Eric, Zola, Jeff, Ms. Tuten. Thank you all!

my husband had been going to the cancer center for years and they are great and in december 2025…read morehe had to have some tests done and the problem we had was when he could not get back in the vehicle (which he had been in alot of pain for about 3 months now) and they had a lift team to put him back in the truck. after they got him in the seat they just shoved him over and he was in even more pain. come find out he had a broken hip for 3 months now and we did not know about it until december 21st. they should not have shoved him in the seat no matter what the situation was. the hospital for the care of my husband had been great. he had passed away in january 22, 2026. i hope they take better care of someone else better than they did him. the chowan hospital is the reason why they did not know about the broken hip for 3 months. we had been to chowan for 3 or 4 visits with him complaining about his leg hurting and they would not do any xrays of his leg. they were great for checking to see if he was having any issues with his heart. that was not his problem at these times. on december 21st i told the doctor that it was his leg not his heart that was the problem and she had xrays done and found out that it was a broken hip and they sent him back to greenville to the cancer center and they were great with him even though he had cancer, which was the reason for hip broken hip. it just pains me that he went 3 months with this broken hip and in so much pain that he was crawling around on the floor to get from room to room. until i finally had enough of seeing him like this. sorry for the long review.

The did not explain to him what they needed to do, so he was not understanding what they wanted and started to fight them off, he was scared. So they restrained him hands and feet. They never spoke to him. Food was left on tray, he had a hard time eating due to restraints. I spoke to the nurses, but seem to fall on deaf ears. People in emergency rooms had to wait SEVERAL HOURS OR MORE to be seen. This hospital is a joke.
