I gave them a visit and I was impressed! The staff were helpful and friendly, there were several areas to sit and study (despite the size of the library), it was clean and well kept, furniture was clean, several computer stations, they have a quiet room and rooms to reserve for groups. I have visited several times and have not been disappointed.

I enjoy small local libraries. Was well kept and good. I sat and began working. Unfortunately, I guess there was a shift change or something because within 15min the place became very loud and very active. The activity was fine but the loudness was odd. The woman employee at the front desk set the tone for that and everyone began interacting and speaking loudly. Endless flow of people engaging and talking with raised volume in the workspace. Most who were working and sitting in that area got up and left, which makes sense. When things slowed down with patrons no longer comign up to the main desk, the woman up front engaged other colleagues in conversation and was walking around the space and continued to speak as if it was her living room - loudly. And the other patrons who I guess didn't care about quiet took her lead and began using their outside voices. I tried to ignore it and continued working but the loud voices were super irritating and when the loud laughter started that was it. Quite unfortunate for a small community library. It is a cute place and my experience started great but the culture turned that late morning into early afternoon and was really bad. It was less a library environment and more like an active office space with people talking to each other across the room.

But POOR policy on collecting books. These people constantly buy and cram their stacks with the latest trash fiction until shelves are filled with it. Are you krazy for Koontz? Ga-ga for Grisham? Here's your place... and plenty more! Patterson, Steele, Stephen King, Toni Morrison -- every by-the numbers formula book-of-the-week is here --- hundreds of 'em. (And no end in sight.)This library desperately needs more creative & intelligent acquisitions, like economics, history, self-help, social issues, current thought and commentaries, etc etc. Also cries out for more serious periodicals. (The truth is, the problem is bigger than just Morgade -- probably the entire Martin County system hews to the whole trash-fic policy. As for periodicals, they evidently are afraid to subscribe to any mag that actually publishes an opinion.) *sigh* The Martin county libraries are run by nice people, but I do wish they'd be more thoughtful and comprehensive in their acquisitions.

Not a huge library by any means, but I'm usually able to browse the stacks and find something interesting to read. I love the self-service checkout process. Book checkouts are two weeks. You can renew books online (up to 5 times, I believe), which is very handy. There are computers available for public use, and they always seem to be full of happy library goers. Printers and Wi-Fi too. Music downloads. Audio- and e-books. After-hours book drop. Meeting rooms available for rent. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. Always clean and organized.

The roots of the library are in a free reading room in the Congregational Church at the corner of Datura and Olive Streets that was offered by the City of West Palm Beach in 1895. In 1899 a $100 donation was given by Henry Flagler and with the reading room book collection, the library opened in a houseboat donated to the Palm Beach Literary Society by Commodore Charles John Clarke. The City's first permanent library was in a Spanish style building that faced the Intracoastal Waterway. It was dedicated to the men and women who served in WWI. In the 1960's, a new City library designed by architect Norman Robson opened. In 2009 the library moved from the water to its current location on Clematis where it is part of the $30 million City Center Complex. Today the library is focused on providing its half a million visitors a year programs, services, collections, and technology. There is so much to love about this library. The lobby has public art pieces. The first floor has an extensive book collection and a café serving coffee, shakes, smoothies, and pastries. The second floor has a children's room, computers, music, and movies. It was surprising to discover that in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Clematis Street is a historic institution that has been offering free education for over a over a century.

I think nine of them plus conference rooms that you can request or reserve. After passing through the bathroom/book check-in entryway area and through the security panels, an inviting middle walkway lined with dvds invites one to browse. Modern comfortable seating - living-room style - provides an inviting space to chill and peruse one's findings. There is a 'local authors' section next to the security panels when you walk in, a nice touch. There is a room just for teenagers and young adult fiction; I would have loved this room if it had existed when I was a teenager! It includes tables and computers. Awesome for teens to have a 'safe' space away from adults and small children. The children's area is quite spacious, with a large entryway and open corridors between sections. The area is placed far from the regular library-goers so that children might squeal without disturbing too many patrons. It also features: lots of lights entering from windows, whimsical wooden bookcases and chairs, and a family bathroom (complete with child-size toilet and sink). The leather seating is pretty worn out, but otherwise the space is well-kept. The parking lot features a ton of parking spaces and a drive-through book drop-off.
