Used to be a good place to go. Could train in any art, at your own pace when you wanted too for one…read moreflat rate. Ised to be about the learning, but so.ething has gone wrong very recently and that mentality has flipped. Since its turned into a almost pure Karate School, delegating those of us that like to practice the other arts to one day a week, if we're lucky, I no longer see the point of being a full time dues paying member. Now it's Karate all the time, by the numbers, in formation, like I'm back in the military. No thanks. I did my 8 and got out. I have self-discipline, I don't need to be taught that. I was after the internal arts. As such, I'll just be paying the day rate fees from here on out, if I choose to return. So, take what I say with a grain of salt. I haven't been back since he started compelling me to practice Karate only, a side sport for fun for me. The staff is very knowledable when it comes to Karate, and I'm sure they'll forget more then I'll ever learn. Great for the kids. I'm going to miss mentoring them. Karate just teaches me no real skills to use on the streets, as every thing taught isn't usable in sparring. Kinda boring really.

From Karate, Kendo, Tai Chi, Sparring, Chanbara, Self-Defense, numerous weapons...list goes on! My son and wife have learned so much and the benefits to the knowledge/health are priceless. And they are very involved in the community. From community drives to volunteer work! Grateful for everything that my son and wife are learning and achieving! His ranks are truly earned. The instructors, kids, etc. are just a big family. Very accommodating to additional needed hours, especially during tournament season. This is a club for those who truly wish to learn the arts. 75$ Membership fee (discounts for additional family members), NO contracts and no limit on the time you attend. Come to as many classes as you want! Can't beat the price or the experience!

Core martial arts has multiple programs, each with different instructors of different competencies…read more I enrolled in the Muay Thai program under Chris Scott. While the students and staff displayed respect and competency, Scott uniquely showed a lack of either. During the 1 hour training sessions, Scott would regularly begin class about 15 minutes late chatting or bragging about his personal skill in fighting, and when he actually began class, he would spend most of his time on his phone and forget what exercises he asked us to do. There is no training plan, neither in a day or throughout the year - he arbitrarily assigns exercises. Quite frankly, for the price, you will receive the same training from obtaining a regular gym membership and watching youtube. The only benefit that training under Scott provides is the chance to spar and train with other fighters who have already had training elsewhere. Competency aside, there is the aspect of respect. While the terms are thrown around casually in the current political landscape, Scott is genuinely sexist. When women are not present in the room, he enjoys leading conversations about how women are less capable or motivated than men. In one particular incident, he spent the first 15-30 minutes of a class chatting with other men how women spend their time chatting instead of training. It's frankly pathetic. Scott tries so hard to act masculine that he only comes across as a little insecure boy. What a joke. Overall, while I would recommend the gym, I would not recommend any program under scott. Edit: After posting this review, Scott called me to tell me to take down the review. He informed me that for posting this review publicly, I am pathetic and that it confirmed every negative thing he thought about me. He literally challenged me to fight him at the gym to prove how manly he is. Very masculine.

I had the pleasure of training with instructors at Mazu Muay Thai for a week while I was visiting…read morefrom out of state. I have taken Muay Thai classes from a handful of instructors and the head instructor, Cole is one of the most skilled. His approach is both laid back, and exceedingly detailed. He is able to concisely describe the rationale for doing a technique a certain way, which for me, is something I look for in a class. I do not go to Muay Thai to blow off steam and punch and kick things as hard as I can. I go to class to refine my technique and understand the WHY of how I am moving, defending, and attacking. When I sparred with some of the more competitive teenagers, it felt challenging but safe. I also appreciated the approach of one of the other instructors whose class I enjoyed, but who also made it a point to encourage the team to take care of their bodies, eat healthy, look out for each other, and reach out to him should they ever have any troubles. In this era of total disconnection, it was nice to see someone actively building community and offering support to members. I leave with more knowledge than I came with and I look forward to dropping in on my next trip!

Both of us are extremely proud of the progress he has made in the short period of time. We are here for the long haul and I can't wait to see his performance....a year from now...two years from now. This class is definitely teaching him self control and I've noticed a marked improvement in his overall mood and temperament. Coach Cole has the ability to adjust his teaching methods to any age and skill level. I'm sure this comes from his many years of experience and his love of the sport. Joining Mazu Muay Thai is one of the best decisions we've ever made.
