We booked with Martha's lodge 7-8 months in advance for a large family (wedding) celebration in the summer of 2020. Then COVID hit. Even with 2-3 months notice, Martha V. would not allow us to even RESCHEDULE our booking, but chose to exploit the pandemic to keep our funds. With no help from VRBO, we cancelled our reservation to protect our family, and Martha kept our money. I expected more cooperation during the difficult time. If you are deciding between renting from Martha or some other business, I strongly encourage you to avoid Martha V vacation rentals. Not only is it a risk to do business with such a greedy vendor, but I implore you to patronize other honest businesses in the area. read more

I was looking for a place for a family Thanksgiving. I found this place on VRBO and her online website. When I went to see it, the owner let her dog out of the car and it bit me. She assured me it had all of her shots. She then told me the price, which was a little higher than the price on her website. When I received the invoice, she wanted to charge more than $200 more a night than we discussed. I gave her the opportunity to live up to her verbal commitment, but she would not. Because she had not been honest about the price of the rental, I asked her to send the dog's shot records. She never responded. Be aware of dog and bait & switch! read more

My family and I visit different rental houses yearly for our reunion and this has been one of our lowest experiences (and we aren't too picky!). We have dealt with not so friendly lessors but we were treated poorly here and were unimpressed with the rental home. A few of the issues we had are as follows: - The home was not cleaned prior to our arrival with a moldy bathroom and ants inside - Pubic hair in the bathrooms - Rooms with burnt out lights - The dumpster outside, where we told to put our trash, was overflowing upon our arrival and was not emptied when we told the renter - Sheets that were on the beds were used and uncleaned with hair on them from previous renters When some of these issues were pleasantly presented to the owner, they made excuses for each matter rather than fix the problems. After this experience the owner also called and left a rude phone message to our family, which is wholeheartedly unprofessional and unnecessary. I would not recommend you rent from this company. There are so many other homes and rental companies that offer pleasant interaction, clean homes, and overall good service. You want your rental to not be a problem while on your vacation! read more
