My husband and I stayed here three nights, and, since I added the third night long after our initial reservation, we had to change rooms. This gave us a peek at two of the three rooms offered. First off, Charlie and Barb are two of the nicest people I've met - so warm and friendly, wanting to make sure you're happy. Their house is up the hill from the downtown area, but still an easy walk unless you have mobility issues. If you're staying in one of the 2 rooms upstairs, be forewarned that, as with many older homes, the stairs are steep and narrow - so lugging up large luggage isn't easy - but isn't terrible either - well, I had the hubby get one bag, and Charlie grabbed the other one. There's coffee or tea out in the mornings early (based on what you've told Charlie you drink), plus more at their wonderful, large, creative, made-with-love breakfasts. Oy-vay! We were spoiled! There was no TV in our first room, so we did what we saw another guest do one night - we used the common area TV for a late night viewing w/ our store-bought nibbles. Although, Barb already had nibbles out for people - yes, I had both hers and mine! Our last night was in the cottage (or carriage house?) down in back. It has cork floors (so neat!), a large modern bathroom, spacious bedroom, and a TV. Oh - and a mini fridge too. Wow. A great room to escape to. Lastly, I loved the little town of Port Townsend. I WILL be back, and I WILL stay w/ Charlie and Barb again - if they'll have me!

During our visit to the Port Hadlock-Port Townsend area over last weekend, we encountered a number of local people who had heard of Eaglemount Rockery Cottages, but had never taken a look around or referred a visitor there. I think that's about to change, based on our enthusiastic recommendation. The good: The cottages were moved to the site and opened in 1947, and the whole place harkens back to an earlier time at first. The spacious grounds overlook Discovery Bay. It's QUIET, since most cottages are detached. Our cottage was immaculate. Fresh flowers were refreshed during our stay. Lavender sachets were in all the drawers, and the whole place was just surgically clean. The bed was very comfortable. There was an enormous dvd library in the room. The room has a sitting area with a recliner and a love seat. There's a very nice kitchen and snack bar, with a large (for a motel or cottage) refrigerator, dishes, utensils and cleaning supplies. A microwave is also on hand. The owners are an older couple, but they both seem to be very active around the place, seeing to it that the gardens are well kept and that everything stays just so. I got the feeling that, as we were gone all day each day, very little escapes their attention. I found that feeling comforting, knowing that all our gear would be there when we came home each night. The things people might object to: But for the coffee maker and microwave, the couple insists that no cooking be done in the cottages. They installed an all-weather pavilion with barbecues, a hot plate and a nice selection of pots and pans that all guest are free to use. The cooking ban is one of a few things that some might object to, but that we found we appreciated. There's kind of a long list of "no's": no smoking, no pets, no children, nothing that's likely to disturb other guests. Another warning: the place is dominated by the things that used to be common "roadside attractions." There's a large area featuring small stone and mortar structures. There's a concrete Mount Rushmore. There is an "Indian Village" with nearly lifesized statues scattered around. We weren't enchanted with the offbeat decor, but we loved the quiet, the view, the comfort of the place and the rate -- a three night special that came in at $60 a night -- cheapest in the entire Port Townsend area. I'd classify it as a found treasure.

Our family of four stayed at the "Whimsical Bear" cottage for four nights while venturing through the Olympic National Park and it was a wonderful home away from home. It was so cozy, fully furnished with everything we could need and had cute bear décor in each room. KITCHEN: It came stocked with all the dishes, utensils and cookware that we could possibly need. Other than whipping up some light breakfasts, we actually didn't cook much. The cabinet had some random cans of food and spices. The owners also kindly left a basket of complimentary snacks on the counter and a few sodas and juices in the fridge. BATHROOM: One bathroom to share among four of us was a little tough, but we made it work! There was one shower and a whirlpool tub. Unfortunately, there was no separation between the toilet & sink and the rest of the bathroom, so really only one person could use it at a time. BEDROOM: The single king bed was soft and comfortable, but the room got pretty hot at night. It had a small closet and a dresser for storage. The only way to enter the bathroom is through the bedroom, so this could be disruptive for lighter sleepers. LIVING SPACE: The sofa folded out into a bed which I actually preferred sleeping in. There was a fireplace and satellite TV. We had a tough time figuring out the TV since there were two different remotes. We called the owners for instructions which they graciously provided, but it would have been helpful if they left some directions in the cottage for reference. Other notes: + You cannot wear shoes in the house, so they had a basket with pairs of socks for each person near the door. The socks were really thick and too hot for the summer, so I just wore my own. I would have preferred either thinner, breathable socks or some cheap slippers. + After we added some breakfast items, vegetables and fruit into the fridge, it took several hours to cool down below 40 degrees F. According to the owners, this is normal. + If you walk all the way down the road, you'll find the owners' home and lovely garden. We met Chris and he spoke with us for a few minutes, let us throw some food to the fish in the pond and also gave us slices of bread to feed their deer. We didn't see any deer at first, but after calling out to them ("Helloooo deer! Deer!"), they came running out. So cute and gentle! Our stay at A Hidden Haven was really a special one. I definitely recommend it if you're visiting the Olympic National Park! 4.75 stars.

The little house is a beautiful gem and perfect for a family with kids - there is only one bedroom on the first floor and then a sleeping loft accessed by a ladder (which the kids thought was cool). The house was very clean and well maintained and had all the comforts of home. My wife and I both like to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed, including a nice gas range and all the basic sundries we needed (oil, vinegar, basic spices, ketchup, mustard, etc.) The area is convenient enough to town but far enough away so one could enjoy the 'country', including the peace and solitude we were seeking. Perfect. The surrounding property and deck were perfect for us and we enjoyed the hot tub after long days of hiking in Olympic National Park. We also enjoyed dinner on the deck while overlooking the Olympic Range. We've rented many houses over the years and this was one of the best. Would recommend this place to anyone. The owners are very nice. A few notes: 1. While this house says it could sleep 8, I'm not sure this house would be comfortable for more than 2 adults and kids, unless two adults like climbing the ladder to the loft and sharing space with the kids. The house is perfect for a couple or small family. 2. The hot tub cover weighed a ton! I tried placing it back on the tub myself and it fell and cracked. I nearly had a heart attack with worry (lost deposit, causing damage for something not my fault). The owner assured me the next morning that lid was old, and degrading so soaking up water and they should have told me ahead of time. They refunded me security deposit without delay. Don't hesitate to stay here - just awesome!!

We stayed 2 nights and woke up to two bucks fighting over their lady friend near the pond. Even though we had plans to do things around the area, we could have easily stayed here the whole time. But on the street, along the road, the internet was very good. The apartment was equipped with all modern household appliances and air conditioners. Unfortunately, the TV sometimes did not work, giving error messages. The sleeping areas are not very comfortable and, due to their design, are even dangerous for tall or overweight people. The host is an MD, a very nice person, however, his response time was too long.

No one is going to cook for you in the morning or be bothering you in anyway. Here was our experience, broken down into sections: THE ROOM: We stayed in Suite Chocolat, the newly opened room in the house. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and had a Tempur-Pedic bed. Both of us brought our laptops, and the free wi-fi was fast and reliable. There is a mini fridge/freezer in the room, as well as a widescreen wall-mounted TV. Hooked up to the TV is a DVD/VHS combo, and they even included a rack of like 50 DVD movies to choose from, which was pretty cool. The room is on the corner of the house facing the ocean and has large windows on two sides of the room giving you a nice view. There is even a door that takes you right outside so you can walk to the beach. The best part of this room is that at night, you can leave the door open, but the screen door closed to keep bugs out, and listen to the ocean waves graze the shore as you drift off to sleep. It also proved to be very convenient if you have a dog you'd like to walk. Oh, and there's a fireplace ;) THE BATHROOM: The connected bathroom needs its own section because of how awesome it is. Where to start? The heated floor? the giant jet-ready bathtub? The shower for 2? The private bathroom connected to the room was really nice, and even though there was a hot tub outside, we didn't feel the need to use it as there was a perfectly romantic large hot tub inside! The tub had a large mirror above it, bath salts, and other good-smelling bath items you could plop in to let dissolve. And when you got out, no need for chilly tiled floor, as there is a knob on the wall to control how warm you like the floor. However, the bathroom is also why cleanliness doesn't get a 5 star rating. The two person shower had yellow/orange water in it (probably rust), and the initial water that came out of the pipes needed to run a little while before it looked nice and clear. THE HOUSE itself: Piano in the living room. Beautiful chess set table. Hundreds of books on a book rack. Full kitchen. This place is pretty classy. Long rock driveway shrouded in trees. the owners of the house do not live in it, so you are on your own, unless someone else is renting another room in the house. They have a chocolate lab that was very friendly and said hello to our dogs. They have the "Bella" room that is all decked out in Twilight posters, books, and memorabilia, it is hilarious and perfect if you're a Twihard. THE STAFF: The lady was kind on the phone, and when we arrived, she showed us the rooms, how things worked briefly, then she was gone and we were never bothered the entire stay. However, she/they were always a phone call away if we ever needed anything. She told us about the pizza place that delivered, and sure enough, the pizza was top notch and had a full menu of options. THE BEACH: Well, it is Washington so the water isn't going to exactly be that warm, but the beach itself is relatively secluded and is available. We took a dip for fun, but you can't really relax as the beach itself is very rocky. The dogs had fun! BOTTOM LINE: Priced at around the same rate you'll get from a Quality INN, this was a experience was a steal. You won't get the romance of an oceanfront view that you can literally walk right out into and get this price. Not everything is totally tended to, so if you don't mind a touch of rust here and there, this pet-friendly hot spot with honest owners will charm your pants off and leave you satisfied.

Exceeded my expectations! Knowing this was an older roadside…read moremotel I wasn't expecting much but it definitely exceeded expectations. It was very clean-the attention to detail in cleanliness was better than some chain hotels I had stayed in recently and was definitely better than one of the other local 3 story hotels I stayed in during a previous visit. Yes you are going to hear people walking above you or neighboring units when they run water but I expected that. Parking is tight but there is definitely room to back out without backing into the street.
