They sell good cupcakes to be more precise. I always thought that any cupcake that's priced below a cupcake by Sonja's would be something that was mediocre. This one proved me wrong. Granted, it's not the first one to do so, but it is one of the few that has. In any case, my experience has taught me that once a store has sold me on one of their cupcakes, there's a very strong chance that everything else they have to offer is as good. Anyway, lemme know if you do give everything a try and if there are flavors that are better than the others.

That's mostly because my favorite cupcake shop was just one mall away. Also, I was kind of doubting the quality of the cupcake. it only costs Php 65 for a piece of their red velvet and most good cupcakes I tried cost around Php 85 and above. Well I'll be the first to tell you that I was wrong to judge. Their red velvet was actually pretty awesome. Reason number one is the price of course. Most of their pastries are cheap, without the quality being compromised. They have cake pops, cookies, and brownies available. Their macarons only costs Php 50, which is a pretty average price these days. I want to try other cupcake flavors when I can, because J Cuppcakes looks pretty promising to me.

Well, that's Everyday Mom's for us. We've introduced this brand to so many people and there is not one person who didn't like the cupcakes of Everyday Mom's. We discovered this extremely humble cupcake shop a few years ago when their store was still located near the Original Max Restaurant near Scout Tuazon. Unfortunately, the shop moved to a more inconvenient location along Scout Castor. I say inconvenient because somehow, it's so hard to pass by that street due to congestion. Nevertheless, we still remain loyal to our Café Mocha cupcakes that remain the epitome of the perfect cupcake to me. While they do offer other flavors such as Carrot Cake, Black and White and quite recently added a few more options, Café Mocha remains my ultimate favorite. The yrecently increased their prices. But for the taste and quality they offer, the cupcakes are still a winner.

They don't have a lot of various flavors, which sucks, most are either made of chocolate or vanilla and there's one with coffee. I chose the Dark Velvet one just to try it at home. But it melted when I got home. Maybe it was partly my fault cause I didn't get home until after 3 hours. I think the price is just right though you need to add about PhP10.00 for the box. Each cupcake will have it's own box if doesn't go by dozens or half dozens. So about the taste, I can't justify the taste cause mine melted already BUT I still found it very good even tho the icing melted. It was just the right kind of sweet. The texture is very fine and firm unlike other cupcakes that are crumbly. I'd give this a 4 if it didn't melt that fast and if it wasn't messy to eat. I won't give them a 5 cause the place is not good for dining in if you're with friends (it's better if you're alone or with one friend), and because they don't have a lot of flavors to choose from. Will drop by when I crave for a cupcake tho. I just wish they had more flavors.

This was about 5 years ago and this particular cupcake cost about P70 to P75 back then. I believe it's now P95. For the weight-watchers, they also have a sugar-free of version of this, FYI. Recently, we got to try Sonja's 8" Rainbow Fiesta Cake for my brother's birthday (Yes, he loves rainbow cakes) and it cost P950. It was not only adorable to look at but it offered just perfect level of sweetness unlike most rainbow cakes that tastes mostly like confectioner's sugar. The layer of marshmallow icing wasn't too thick and it was covered with a generous amount of crunchy rainbow sprinkles. Inside it had 6 layers of soft vanilla chiffon in purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. The chiffon wasn't too thick and heavy it was more on the fluffier soft side which I personally like. At 8 inches, the cake is quite large so two people can even share a slice. Overall, we were quite happy with Sonja's Rainbow Fiesta cake. Unfortunately, they forgot to give me the free candle I requested (hence the 4 star rating) but it's no biggie. If you love Rainbow cakes or cupcakes in general, I would definitely recommend Cupcakes by Sonja. They offer yummy pastries and the price isn't too hefty.

A lady behind the counter told us that someone was able to actually fill their bag with up to 500 grams of chocolate barks which would be like getting it at more than 50% off compared to the regular price. We were able to fill our bags up to 350 grams (it was more than enough for us!) I'd recommend this store, especially because of the promo!

So I found this store in Trinoma and, boy, they have a lot of flavors to choose from! They all look good! It was too hard for me to choose. They have two kinds- premium and regular flavors. Premium flavors are more expensive (like Php80-95). I think their prices are bit high for a cupcake. They don't charge for the packaging, and oh their packaging is sooo cute (cupcake shaped domes) and they also give sporks to go with it (spoon and fork in one haha) I got the blueberry creamcheese and the chocolate strawberry cupcakes. I kind of liked the latter cause the blueberry one tastes more of milk than blueberry, and I'm not a fan of milk. The icing was at first not sweet but the sweetness attaches to the throat and you'll need water. The composition was crumbly and I didn't like it that way, it was too messy to eat. In the middle of it is a surprise filling! The filling really tasted good but warning, sugar overload! It lasts longer than the one in Everyday Mom's, but well I wasn't out as long. They offer mini cupcakes too and letters to go with it, which is a happy thing to buy for a friend or friends. I only gave 2 cause of the cupcake itself, no dine ins, and a bit pricey (like you'd rather enjoy a slice of cake than just a cupcake). It's not overly good. The cuteness is deceiving. Haha.

One of the short lived, quieter fads though seemed to be the cupcake. Independent cupcake places started popping up everywhere and then it was over. I've seen fancier places but Frostings is definitely probably one of the humbler spots. Most of these cafes charge around 100php upward for a cupcake and I can't really justify paying that much. If I wanted to spend that much to begin with, I'd just go and find a full slice of cake. Much better bargain in my opinion. Frostings caps at around 65php for their more premium flavors and 50php for their regular flavors. (As of this writing. I've been told there's a price increase of 10php by the weekend. If you're reading this review, chances are they've already gone with the price increase. ANYWAY.) I can say you certainly get what you pay for. The cake isn't anything out of the ordinary. It isn't that dry either nor is it thick and dense. It's just... okay. The frosting however is a bit on the grainy side. Not your smooth, silky buttercream frosting, definitely. Cudos to them having a leche flan cupcake though. That caught my attention. And I did like the fact that they put it in an individual plastic dome. All in all, I'd certainly buy a few for a friend or two if I wanted to give them something special but it's nothing I'd actively seek out for myself. Cupcakes make nice presents but I prefer my desserts a bit more robust.

Their bucayo, which a local sweet made from coconut flakes is a wonder for a quick sugar fix. Their Silvanas? Don't even get me started. They also have a few cupcakes which are even better and taste far less commercial than some of the ones sold by the pricier cupcake cafes. They also sell polvoron; classic and cookies 'n' cream. Both good. (Polvoron is polvoron. You can't sing much praises about it without sounding like you're pushing it.) They also have mango bars which I love because of the texture. A bit crumbly but still chewy and filled with tiny dried mango bits. Their Josephines which are sugar biscuits with light cream in between are also perfect with black tea or coffee and I love how the cream is never heavy. Their lemon bars though, lack a bit of lemony-ness for my taste and the cheddar used for their ensaimadas is bit too sharp and salty. Their cheese rolls are perfectly soft but ironically, lacking in cheese. All three are still good though.

When you go to House of Silvanas, there is a dessert they have called Black Bottoms, which are essentially cupcakes made with a cheesecake top (!!!!!!!11!!!1?!!), dotted with chocolate chips and moist, chocolate cake on the bottom. I never fail to purchase one whenever I feel bad, because the moment I sink my teeth into this cupcake, first taking in the creamy cheese and then the chocolate, my eyes roll back in delight, and I find myself making joyful squeaky noises in appreciation. I think it's safe to say that the Black Bottoms from House of Silvanas are my favorite baked dessert. My next favorite dessert would have to be Napoleones. While House of Silvanas doesn't have them, they do have a dessert called the Josephine. It's occurred to me that Josephine was the name of Napoleon Bonaparte's wife, so maybe this has something to do with the fact that the Josephine is kind of like a napoleone, only crunchier and more rectangle-shaped. One bite into the puff pastry reveals a sinfully delicious custard center, and before you know it, you've eaten the entire damn confection (more like inhaled, in my case). I should probably get to trying the actual Silvanas they sell here, but for the most part, the Black Bottoms and Josephines are top-of-mind, and they should also be your must-tries when you come here, too!
