The Marstallmuseum is a carriage museum located in the Nymphenburg Palace. The museum is housed in what was previously the royal stables and covers about 300 years of history. There are beautiful displays of sleighs , coaches and personal items of the Wittelsbach's.
King Ludwig II's coronation and state coach is a real show piece. It's extravagant on every level. Since King Ludwig ll built 3 beautiful castles with one being the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. (Walt Disney's inspiration for Cinderella's Castle) I was not surprised by his choice of carriages.
The Hercules Sleigh of Max Emanuel is the oldest on display. It was restored in 2012 and has a carving of Hercules on it. Maximilian Emanuel was a Wittelsbach ruler of Bavaria and a Prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire. read more
