The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1975 to safeguard the endangered Mississippi sandhill crane and its unique disappearing wet pine savanna habitat. The refuge consists of more than 19,000 acres in four units and is now part of the Gulf Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The visitor center was closed when we arrived so we were unable to get a physical stamp but reached out and they mailed us one. Would know more if the visitor center was open so we took in the day and enjoyed watching the birds on this stop.
