We stopped at Marsden Estate for lunch after spending Easter at Cape Reinga. One of the more established wineries in the area with grapes planted in 1992. What a lovely courtyard looking out on the pond and lawn. It really was a beautiful day to enjoy it all. We started with a nice Sauvignon Blanc which as it was a holiday we were not allowed to drink until we had ordered a meal. The service was quite slow and people who knew the owners walked in well after us and got their orders taken and then their food delivered before us, as did another table.
I chose Almond salt & cumin crumbed calamari with garlic aioli which was cooked perfectly. For my main I had the Special which was gnocchi with Salmon, Spinach and mushroom. It really was good. Shame I couldn't say the same for my friend's miserable dry looking Char-grilled breast of chicken with burnt lime vinaigrette, coconut rice & dressed rocket leaves. It looked like it was all rocket and rice. Not the consistency of the 3 great meals at our table that were not her own.
I find it hard to say I would be back in a hurry. I loved my meal and the view but I felt bad about my friend's lunch that she didn't enjoy and the very slow service and favouritism we saw. read more
