After an initial "free" phone consultation, and having NOT signed a retainer agreement, we decided to go with a different firm - informing Maronick in just 24 hours. Tom called me out of the blue, days later, aggressively questioning me as to why we not moving forward with him. That affirmed our decision to go with another lawyer. After three weeks of asking them to close our file and refund any unused balance of our $1,000 deposit, they finally informed me they were keeping the entire amount. I had a dui case last year when I reached out to this company. I ended up paying for two cases and only one ended up going to court. My lawyer was great got me off in a good spot and got me to turn my life around as a first offender. MY ONLY PROBLEM I've never received my refund for the case I never went to. I had to make numerous calls for information and to even speak to someone and when I finally did they completely forgot about everything. We had high hopes for Maronick, having seen that a highly recommended Maronick lawyer was recently appointed to a prominent state legal position. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Our critique: The attorney was never able to communicate directly with his client in DC Jail, and reportedly blocked the Dept of Corrections-approved apps for phone calls and messages. Baffling... Therefore, I ended up having to be intermediary between lawyer and his jailed client for a few weeks, an awkward situation for everyone concerned. Strange: The attorney's insistence that his client sign papers without having had a chance to read them, and the attorney's repeated refusal to explain papers that his client was being pressured to sign. Seems like he was always in a hurry. Surprising: Maronick's rapid rate of charging hours to the case without much anything significant happening... $5,000 burned amazingly quick: Maronick attended a few quick hearings and had a couple of very brief, pressured client meetings. I hope we'll see a detailed billing one day... Anyway, Maronick's performance seemed lackluster. The attorney assigned to the case had an attitude toward the client from the start, was impatient, unwilling to explain details, and lost his temper a number of times, even slamming his laptop with rage. Run the other way. Tom talks a good game to secure your payment or your deposit and then falls extremely short. Says all the right things in the beginning to get your business and then stops responding until a day or two before your case. I cant begin to tell you how bad he messed up my case and at the end i felt like it was intentional to extort me for more money to handle my appeal. I was promised at least a partial refund after electing to go with a new attorney for my appeal and i still have not received it. Do yourself a favor and find another attorney. So I submitted a review from my work email (it's from the Full Statement account -- they ghosted me and the experience was a disaster), and they called me a fake person and THREATENED TO SUE ME. Here are my attached invoices and billing records proving I hired them and that every word in my original review is true. Instead of addressing legitimate complaints, this firm is trying to intimidate clients with THREATS OF DEFAMATION LAWSUITS for speaking out about bad service. That's not professionalism -- that's a serious concern about how this firm handles criticism. This needs to be investigated. This will be submitted to the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission and local news outlets to show how this firm treats clients. Threatening paying customers for sharing their honest experience is beyond unacceptable, and this type of response deserves to be exposed. You should be ashamed. UPDATE: I used my business email to write my original review because I didn't want my personal name attached. Maronick Law threatened to SUE me for voicing my concerns about their service. The reply was so full of typos that it genuinely seemed like it was written in anger -- no lawyer should ever respond to a client like that. Afterward, I used my personal email and said "please, sue me," and he has since deleted the review reply and reposted it, now claiming that we threatened him. What we actually said was that any lawyer threatening to sue clients should be reported to the Attorney Grievance Commission. Grow up. The guy blasts us saying he was calling our law firm, but oops, meant to call a different firm. When people call our office we seek to help them if they need legal help. If they aren't calling for our firm we tell them wrong number. The owner of the law firm is in court most of the time helping clients and is not available to jump on a call with a planted caller from a competitor. Once again, Yelp proving how truly useless a platform it is for any kind of legal services searches to allow these kind of pathetic "reviews" to ever happen. Shame on Yelp. Worked with Maronick Law in November, the case is just ending. Was appointed 2 attorneys and neither took initiative to speak with me prior to my two court dates. I reached out to them on many occasions to get some time to speak with them regarding my case and to tell them information about myself. My discovery came in a day before the hearing, I knew nothing about what the discovery included. Still, we went to court. While in court, neither knew anything about me aside from my name. When the prosecution offered their plea deal, attorneys agreed and did not try to negotiate (in both instances). I was told to come get my money back on Friday when I inquired about getting my money back as I was told by Mr. Thomas Marone, I would Wanted to mail it to an address which does not exist to me anymore. After telling me I could come in the office and get it. I was driving and everything was captured on dash cam. My phone only works on speaker I gave the firm a break for the weekend because I know they are close. I am being so respectful to people who are so disrespectful to me and telling me about invoices when the owner already confirmed I'm getting my money back so now they will try to use the same invoice trick with my felony , they have done nothing. I should have done more homework before deciding on these folks. It turns out they have an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau. I contracted this law firm to represent my son in what turned out to be a very straightforward and simple case. One of Mr. Maronick's staff attorneys appeared at the preliminary hearing and did an adequate job. My son pleaded guilty, and the case was decided and closed at the preliminary hearing. I made the mistake of signing a flat fee agreement for $5000. I asked for an itemized accounting of the billable hours spent on the case, but Mr. Maronick refused to provide one. I expected that the firm would be fair and honest and reduce the amount owed to around $2500 but they refused and charged me the full $5000 for what amounted to about 4 hours of time by my estimate including travel time. I cannot help but feel that Mr. Maronick took advantage of me because of my naivete. I think what he did was legal but unscrupulous. read more

This law office sucks! I paid $10,000 to have Thomas, himself, call me to debate that the money was paid. This was due to the lawyer(s) assigned to me leaving this firm and the office staff not having any clue of what had been happening with my case. After the money issue was resolved all communication with me leading up to my case had stopped! I had to constantly call, text, email the office, Thomas, and my new attorney (who's no longer there) and hope that I would get a call back. Finally my case was resolved (stet) and it has been over a year that I have been calling the office to speak with Stephanie about having the stet removed. Again, when I call I am told that Stwphanie is busy but she will call me back. This lie has been told to me more than 10 times over the last 14 months! They took my money and barely had time to communicate with me over the phone. I met my newest lawyer 5 minutes before my hearing started. They do not return phone calls or finish the work that you paid them for. For $10,000 my law firm is supposed to continue with me until the charge is expunged. UNETHICAL, LAZY, POOR COMMUNICATION -Glen Burnie Location I had over 5 attorneys reassigned to my case in 8 months. This law firm was the most stressful part of my experience. There was no doubt that I was innocent, All I needed was an attorney to execute properly. The level of anxiety to get a new lawyer a few days before court, that knows nothing about your case. I stayed patient by speaking with Mr. MARONICK JR and expressing my concerns. I truly felt He didn't care, the only time he did was when I would ask for my money back. Due to having my lawyers being switched like hot potatoes, they were never prepared going into court. After so many postponements due to them being unprepared, the judge expressed there wouldn't be any more granted. A week before the big day, I contacted my lawyer and he didn't even remember me. He told me that he was no longer on my case and that MR SEAMON would be picking it up and would be giving me a call. I contacted Mr. MARONICK AGAIN, expressing my concerns about my lawyer being reassigned for the 5th time and that there was no way he would be ready for court. It was a day before court and Mr.SEAMON didn't reach out until 9pm, THE NIGHT BEFORE COURT. Mr. SEAMON spoke to me as if I was bothering him, he said "what's the big deal, I'm looking at your case. What are you worried about?" He asked me if I was willing to take a plea, I said no. I expressed to him that I didn't feel he was prepared to take on this case in such short notice, THERE WAS 11HRS UNTIL COURT. Our plan was to push for postponement. When we got to court that morning. The first thing MR SEAMON did was go to the SA and negotiated a plea. He came to me with the plea and I said no. He became upset and frustrated that I wouldn't take the plea. He said he knew that SA and worked hard to get it. He felt I was making him look stupid. In my head, I'm thinking "do you work for me or the SA?" I reiterated that I wasn't taking a plea. He looks me in the face and says "if you don't take this plea, I wont be representing you anymore." To me, that meant nothing because he hasn't even been assigned to my case for a full 24hours but I expressed that I felt pressured and very uncomfortable. MR SEAMON became more frustrated and said "if you're not comfortable, I'm going to strike my appearance." At this point, he was threatening me into accepting this plea. I told him that I would call Mr. Maronick, that when he calmed down. He told me our only option was to take it to Circuit court and that he wouldn't charge me the circuit court fee due to the incompetence of the firm. District court fee=$2500, Circuit court= $10k-$20k We went back into the courtroom and the first thing MR SEAMON said was "well my client doesn't think I'm capable of trying this case so I'm going to ask for a postponement", he said this in front of the entire court. The judge denied it, so he told the judge to escalate it to circuit court. After court Mr SEAMON called me upset that I didn't take the plea. He explained that he had other things to deal with and my case was just another burden. We had the trial date a week later. I showed up to court on time expecting to see MR SEAMON, He was no where to be found. I called him and he told me he sent me an email. He got the court date postponed and didn't notify me. He also followed through on his threat and struck his appearance and returned my money. KEEP IN MIND, my case was escalated to circuit court so I had a few weeks to find a lawyer to try my case for more than triple of what I was originally supposed to pay. They screwed me over. I found a great lawyer who did such a great job defending me that my case was dismissed BEFORE the trial date. Had I gave into MR SEAMONS threats, I would have taken the blame for something uI didn't do. My job is to make sure no one gets treated like that again. DO NOT GO TO THIS FIRM. read more

Don't waste your time!!! This law firm pulled the ole bait and switch move on me; On the initial inquiry into my case, the person on the phone sounded very competent and savvy. Since it was the weekend, he asked that I call his office that coming Monday to provide a retainer and HE would immediately get started on my case. He led me to believe he would be my attorney. That Monday, I did as instructed and waited to hear from him. After a couple of days, I called the office asking to speak to this person and was informed that he was actually retired but, he still (basically) drums up business for the firm (I'm sure there's an associated fee) I did eventually get to speak to one person who went over the discovery with me and said we'd speak again as we neared the court date (it was 4 months away at the time so I didn't panic). I paid the full amount well before my court date and would call the office from time to time inquiring about my case. The paralegals, or whoever these women were who answered the phones, were very short and placid, didn't know who my attorney was, none were familiar with my case, and they'd ask me the silly question; Do you want to speak to your attorney? UH...YES!!! Eventually I got a phone call back from a guy who sounded as shy as a second grader. I asked who was...He says his name. No I mean why are you calling me? He stuttered out (Not making fun of him) that he was my attorney...OMG!!! Just from the conversation I knew I was screwed. However, I proceeded and ask the status of my case. He replied that the office hadn't received discovery, which I KNEW was incorrect as the other attorney made it clear they had indeed received discovery. Now I'm getting anxious because this new person is supposed to be representing me but, he's not even up to speed on the case and court is now in 2 weeks. To make a long story short, I had to call back to the office several times because NO ONE seems to know anything, and learned only 2 days before court about the prosecutor's intentions. On the day of court, this guy is basically unable to get out a complete sentence, he's asking me questions about what I wanted him to do all the while I'm supposed to be getting facts and advice from him based on his conversations / interaction with he prosecutor. It was horrible; Folks in the lobby thought I was the attorney and he was the client. Anyway, I pulled out my cell phone right there in the lobby and googled another law firm, explained my situation, and he immediately advised to request a jury trial, send him a retainer, which I did...FF today 3/22/2023 he got the case reduced, the major charge dismissed and I received 1 year PBJ unsupervised. read more

Within 30 minutes, I received a call from Mr. Maronick. He was attentive, professional, empathetic, and really took the time to answer my questions. The lawyer assigned to me was hard to reach, met me for the first time at the court 5 minutes before the hearing (he said he would be there 45 minutes before to talk things over), looked like he just came off a rough night (hair not combed, shirt tail hanging out, tie not tied), was unprepared (luckily I had hard copies of all the evidence I sent him because he did not have it and it was obvious he was seeing it for the first time when I showed it to him). DO NOT HIRE Be warned !! Maronick , moronic, either way you spin it sounds like moron. So it's been like over two years but I'm still not over it. He sent some quack I've never seen a day in my life in place for my court hearing. WITHOUT my knowledge or consent. The judge was under the impression that I was on probation at the time I got my second DUI. That was not the case I got my second DUI while my first court case was still pending. Everything was happening so fast I had no idea what was going on, until it was too late. So when the judge smacked that gavel down and gave me 20 days in jail, at least I was smart enough to suggest weekend jail. That bought me enough time to hire a real lawyer and get an appeal so I would not have to go to a jail. I'm glad I was smart enough to think of that. But I wasn't smart enough to think to tell the judge that I cannot continue with the court case since my lawyer was not present, I didn't know who the fuck this guy was, and I should have spoke up.. But you know dumb kids getting in legal trouble what do we know, hence the lawyer. Like seriously I pay $4000 for a lawyer who doesn't know shit about me or even have enough brains to inform the judge these incidences were only a few weeks apart. The judge honestly thought I was on probation and then went out and got another DUI. Of course he would suggest jail time for that! Finding yourself in a situation where you need a lawyer is terrifying. In my case, not only did I find myself in that position, I found myself in that position less than a week before my court date(part of it was my fault).The morning I emailed Mr. Maronick's office he was traveling. He emailed me back as he flew. I was given options as to how I wanted to proceed. My options were presented in a way in which I was able to make an informed decision, and within hours everything was handled for me. I went to court for two incarcerable traffic offenses (and I have a DUI under my belt from 8 years ago) and my disposition was probation before judgement. There are few things you can control when you go to Court. Nothing is a given. You CAN control who represents you. Mr. Maronick and his staff, are not incredibly good at what they do, they are also kind, respectful and patient. Those values go a long way when you are in a crappy situation.
