When I go to Urge (and this is quite often!), I usually order eggs benedict with bacon or salmon. Compared with other establishments in Hamilton, Urge stands apart from them all. Here's why: the hollandaise is made on sight every morning by the cafe owners. Hollandaise at other cafes are usually too thick or too soupy to be edible. Urge's hollandaise is perfection! Having travelled the world and having frequented cafes in London, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, etc, etc, I can say that Urge stands up with the best! Besides that they offer a wonderful breakfast, they also have amazing coffee and an incredibly large selection of teas. The coffee is never burnt (it's very common in New Zealand and in Hamilton especially for baristas to burn the coffee), is the correct mix of milk if you want a latte or a flat white (there is a difference, and that difference is lost on most baristas in New Zealand!), and is hot (again and weirdly, New Zealand baristas prefer to serve cold coffee!). As for tea, you may ask for anything and they will serve it to you. I found this stunning because usually tea shops prefer not to serve something in-house from one of their loose leaf tins. Granted, I neither instruct food & beverage classes nor do I have a tizzy because my eggs benedict weren't served centred on my plate. So, maybe you'll just have to check out Urge on your own and get disappointed by the stellar service and delicious eats. Have a go!

So, when I discovered they moved a bit down the road to a larger nicer locale I was expecting a better experience. But I was disappointed by the slow service. Now you seat at the table and they wait for you. But the waiter took too long to take my full order after getting my initial beverage order. And then I waited for 20 minutes and my order had not arrived. On top of that some items in the menu where not available as they run out of Hollandaise sauce. Looks like even if the place is bigger, they still have a little kitchen not able to serve the larger clientele, and they are disorganized. I was surprised, given its location, but after having the coffee and food, I totally understand. There is plenty of seating, both indoors and out, depending on how you're feeling. I'd say stay indoors (on a sunny day), if you need to avoid the sun or the little kids. If you are bringing your little kids, then outdoors is the place to be. Came with the family today (Sunday), because I really wanted my husband and older son to check it out. My son (3-years-old) had a blast! There is a large outside play area (at least, for a cafe), including a boat, an airplane, a train, a tractor, a few slides, a couple tunnels, a trampoline, a play house and a couple of swings. Some of the stuff is probably geared toward the slightly older child (under 12), but there is a small slide and toddler swing for the smaller set. This place is the perfect haven for parents with small kids. The food and coffee are fantastic, and you can let the little one run around outside getting out their natural energy that you're so trying to replicate by getting your caffeine on here. We had our usual, flat whites with vanilla. My husband and I each had one, and he actually ordered another. I've never seen him do this before. The water for the table was served in little old-fashioned, glass milk bottles. The water had fresh strawberries, lemon slices and lime slices in it. So light and refreshing and just perfect for the warm morning. We also had some breakfast. They do have a kids menu, though at this particular time, we didn't order from it since our son had eaten at home. I ordered the chia seed pot because it sounded interesting. I'd never had chia seeds before, so I can't really compare it to anything, but it was delicious! The bowl was beautifully presented, with almond milk, coconut shreds, strawberries, raspberries, almonds, creme freche and edible blooms (see my picture). My husband went more simply, just the scrambled eggs on ciabatta. They were pretty damn good eggs. It's so gratifying to have scrambled eggs done well. We arrived at 9:15 and had our pick of outside tables by the play area, but by the time we left at 10:00, it was pretty full. So, get there early for good outside seating. There are some shaded areas but some in full sun. Though, they thoughtfully have some self-serve sunscreen outside to use.

Service was friendly and prompt; the wait staff giving my son two marshmallows (despite the fact that we did not order any coffees) was a very sweet touch that kept him happy until our lunch arrived. We ordered the Elvis pancakes to share and this was an extremely generous serving. Between the two of us we still didn't manage to finish. There's water available from a sweet little bar cart in the middle of the room and I also had a white grapefruit juice. Everything was delicious. Good value for money; would visit again.
