In order to get 5 stars at a Barbershop you need more than just the perfect haircut and Marky Fresh is overflowing with reasons. 1. What to expect when you arrive: The atmosphere is familiar and relaxing. Music choices are always on point! No complaints there. Everyone seems chill and cool with each other. I like when the staff chats with each other. They seem to enjoy working together, because it's not uncommon to hear laughter or friendly arguments about whether the Queso Sauce at Chipoltle is good or not. Entertaining to say the least. (This is a huge value-add for me because haircuts are expected to be boring, but Marky Fresh exceeds expectation.) This type of comradary brings me back time and time again, because I don't always like the focus on me and my life. More importantly I could care less about the Biff's morning beard oil application routine...which is a 14 step process btw I also never had friends so It's cool to hear how friends talk so I can talk like them to.. I don't know...maybe a future friend and we can laugh and tell jokes. But i dream.... 2. How to set an appointment: Marky Fresh has an online booking system that makes it soooo easy to set an appointment. Be sure to set up something early because they are a popular location and slots fill up quick! 3. What to look at while you get you hair cut: Cool "sugar skull" and " Dia de los muertos" themed artwork grows organically throughout the entire room. Jon Lovitz was peppered throughout the room as well but I have seen less and less of him which is actually kind of sad. Marky Fresh has quite a few monitors in there shop! Sports games and Local ads are always great and funny pictures of the staff pop up too. (They should include personalized memes, random childhood photos of the staff, or photos from the weekend, vacation, etc..basically I want to feel like I'm scrolling through Facebook) 4. I always leave feeling clean and yes...fresh. They have an air compressor and each barber has their own air gun to blow the hair off you! I hate getting hair in my car and they do a great job of reducing the likelihood of that. 5. Haircuts are top knotch. They don't waste their own time. They are focused and skilled craftsman who know their craft well enough they can have fun while doing it ...and there my friends is the secret sauce. I don't like when people touch my head, and cut my hair. I'm terrified I'll get a bad cut, and it will ruin my week. I just moved to Mentor from Denver, and looking around at the majority of haircuts while cashing out at Giant Eagle, had me depressed. I feared I was going to look like the typical Northern Ohio father who gave up on his dreams; after he sold his Pontiac Fiero, trimmed the party from his mullet, and has been all business ever since. So, getting a cut, was nerve racking to say the least. When looking for a barbershop, I generally look for a place that resembles a tattoo shop, and serves beer. Much to my surprise, tucked away in the majestic flat lands of Mentor, OH was Marky Fresh. I go to Brooke, she was the only one with a time available the day could go. I got lucky in this respect because she does a damn good job. In fact, from what I've seen they all do a damn good job. I've seen some pretty ugly people walk in, and when they leave they look dapper as hell, myself included. I would say the biggest selling point is, no one talks politics while cutting your hair....from what I've heard. So it's a nice change of pace to talk about other useless stuff. In all honesty, I won't go anywhere else, your hair is your permanent hat, and you wouldn't wear an ugly hat, so why chance a bad cut? First and foremost - I'm a female. I decided to visit Marky Fresh when my normal stylist just couldn't get the look I was going for (shaved sides, long on top with a taper in the back) and my husband recommended me trying out the shop he goes to. I was halfway expecting to feel uncomfortable being a woman going into a barbershop, but that wasn't the case at all. I've been there twice now to see Mario and I've left with an awesome cut both times. He takes his time to make sure that both sides are perfectly even and pays extra attention to the tapering in the back. I never feel like I have a masculine cut, either, he keeps it feminine and I love it. Before giving the barbershop a chance, I had been getting my hair cut by one woman for almost my entire life because I have thick, curly, wiry hair and I was afraid to let anyone else touch it.
