Ghosted over an email with questions. The nurse was fake nice enough and the only time her facade cracked was when I would ask her questions she wasn't ready to answer or I'd ask questions over and over since they wouldn't answer or address my concerns. Her response was always the same and very rehearsed... I didn't have a problem with it until I realize she didn't have any real answers. Dr. Gelety was nice enough, answered all my questioned, didn't quite assuage my curiosity registering my weight or my irregular periods. Both he and the nurse just basically ignored and never acknowledged that I even asked or said anything about it. He did an ultrasound the first appointment which I thought was only a consult but no... they wanted to rush me thru the procedure. Offered very little guidance outside of meds and the scheduling to harvest. They weren't really concerned with my concerns just getting me thru the procedure. The nurse told me that it was annoying to have to help patients with their shots and that's when I started feeling uneasy. ... I have a traumatic past with needles as a kid so I asked a lot of questions. Her answers were unhelpful. She forgot to fake smile because this was probably the third time in a half hour period I asked about the shots. I don't like having to explain my traumas(and I didn't) but I needed to know the exact process and the side effects and yaddayadda. So anyway now I have wasted all the money on meds. And have terrible anxiety about going to other clinics and asking questions because it's hard enough to get any doctor to listen to me as it is... I gotta go and pretend like this traumatic nonsense never happened.

The office was inviting and comfortable, and it was beautiful to see all the baby photos lining the walls - some were even close to my age! Nurse Lindsey in the lab showed my my husband's samples while he was in OR, and she was so excited, you can tell she enjoys her job! It was wonderful to get updates mid-procedure, from the phone in the OR and by visits to the lab. Nurse Barry was on duty in the OR, providing conscious sedation perfectly - Barry also has a lovely comforting bedside manner that was lighthearted and kind, and I left feeling confident in my husband's aftercare. Speaking of aftercare, we got an entire book made in-house that was specifically compiled for my husband's unique circumstances. Finally, the elephant in the room - Dr. Marks! When you're dealing with surgeons, there is always a level of apprehension as you wait for the pride and lack of decorum, but this was never the case with Dr.Marks, despite being a titan of his industry. Frankly, he's THE guy - ICVR is the only place you can get his level of expertise and experience! Where else can the surgeon who is the inventor of the forceps used to do the procedure, the author of all the textbooks, holds the world record on a successful reversal, preform your surgery AND provide wonderful, and comforting bedside manner?! Doctor Marks also goes above and beyond with a home visit on the day after the procedure, and even gives patients a cell phone number to call any time, night or day.
