Since vinyl doesn't release air quickly when compressed Marie knew she needed to drill a hole in the internal wood seat bottom to let air out when sat on. Something that had not even crossed my mind. It has been a well-used and well-loved couch. There are photos on my mom and dad after getting engaged on that couch. I opened Christmas presents as a little girl on that couch. My whole family, at one point in their lives, has slept on that couch. It has seen celebrations and illness. And it looked like it. Seriously looked like it. The cushions were under an inch thick, and the once very swanky, mod fabric was threadbare in places. Marie agreed to take a look. I sent photos, but then she actually drove 30+ minutes to where we lived at the time to see the couch in person for a proper assessment. She also brought with her thousands of fabric samples from which to choose. She spent almost two hours with us talking about the job, helping us choose the right fabric, and educating us about upholstery in general. And as if that wasn't enough, she is a genuinely good human to whom you could chat for hours. She glows from the inside. Marie gave us a fair estimate and told us it would be about a month. She was right on time and did AN IMPECCABLE JOB! We couldn't even believe it was the same piece. Yes, she's a perfectionist with fabric (Look at her portfolio to see how she matches intricately detailed fabric seamlessly from cushion to base to piping, etc.), but she is also a true craftsman who went above and beyond. She re-stuffed every inch of eac section rather than just here and there. She put in new springs at the front of each base so the sections are at the right angle for sitting. She reinforced the base of each piece. She Scotch Guarded the whole thing. She even gave me some oil/stain so I could freshen up the coffee and side table bases (glass tops) that my gran bought with the couch. We could not be more thrilled. I highly recommend you use Marie for any upholstery needs. She is an artist and a craftsman and a rad human. Truly, you will be lucky just to meet her.

My friend loves antique stores. I have very mixed feelings on antique stores - they either are…read morereally cool flashbacks to a past era or they have the air of a garage sale with the antique name. To be honest this place gave me anxiety. I immediately noticed the turquoise colored carpet patched with bright blue duct tape. Then I realized the sheer impossible task it would be to replace the carpet since the store is filled to the brim. Mountains of items create artificial one way aisles so narrow it's impossible for two people to stand side by side. Items hung on the walls, from the ceiling, on tables, under tables, against other items, on top of other items, on the floor, and inside furniture. Maybe it was my organizational nature poking out but I couldn't fathom any rhyme or reason to what was placed where and how any inventory is managed I have no guess. Then there's all the items that I paused wondering why it was there at all from dolls' heads to broken clocks. The shelf of "antique airplane liquor bottles" really made me wonder because what's the point? The paper stickers around the caps were faded, some of the bottles looked a bit deformed, other caps had an unusual look. Considering how many were in here it doesn't appear they're a hot seller. At one point I realized if there was a fire or earthquake and we weren't by the entrance we wouldn't be able to escape. It was just so much clutter. If you like hunting for a deal this place is for you! If you cringe at disorganization or suffer from claustrophobia I can't recommend it.
