The store does stand out at the Church Street entrance through the modern sign but as you go into the store, this is another one of those stores (which has happened quite a lot in Liverpool), which feels less modern. This store really differs a lot from Next in Manchester, which has multiple other retailers inside and has more open space and is recently refurbished and includes a restauraunt and Costa coffee, however despite still having a Costa this store is basically the opposite, it feels less cramped without the open space factor I like, the store also felt slightly dirty with stuff on the floor. I also found the lifts in the store hard to find with a lack of signposting needed for a store of its size. The selection was okay but not too impressive. This store doesn't stand out as it should, not only lacking to rivals but other Next stores too with cleanliness and store layout needing huge improvement and many other parts of the store needing minor improvement, to the point I feel Next Liverpool deserves just a two-star rating.

I would have liked to see more fresh produce including meats and juices and a better layout of the checkouts in the Food Hall however as an immediate improvement. In terms of clothing, I would say the nearby branches in Manchester and Liverpool are obviously better but the selection is fairly decent if you don't want to commute into one of those cities. The staff seemed OK, although I've experienced better in probably half a dozen other branches of Marks and Spencer, yet this branch is certainly much better than some dire stores within their network including the London borough of Islington and Rochdale in Greater Manchester. A nice brand within Chester, it looks good from the outside, it isn't the best Marks and Spencer store by any means, but it has good cleanliness and location going for it. 3*

The selection in-store is pretty good, in terms of the Food Hall, I was especially impressed with the ease of access (Ground Floor - compared to many other M and S stores, which have you go into the basement) and the frozen section (much more extensive than any other Marks and Spencer stores I have visited, even including Birds Eye Potato Waffles). The overall store is good, I would like to see it refurbished to be similar to some of their newly refurbished stores however which not only look better but feature more features including the ability to select your own eggs, grind your own coffee beans etc. The store also has the Marks and Spencer's app, where you can scan items and pay on your phone, generating an in-app receipt to show as you leave the store. A couple of items that I wanted were out of stock, which was a little frustrating, the selection was fine overall for non-frozen items. I would have loved to see a chicken rotisserie which they have at other stores of a similar size, sadly not here. 4*

I always go to this TJ's for my suitcases; there's a really good choice of sizes, weights, styles and prices. I've also bought towels and bedding from the top floor, again there's a pretty limitless range of styles to suit your need, you're pretty much guaranteed to find what you need. The staff are a little variable, some are approachable, knowledgeable and willing to help you, while others, usually the younger staff members are decidedly indifferent and unconcerned. Aesthetically, the store is not very attractive: it's dull with little natural light and always quite chaotic but if you're determined to get a bargain it won't matter!

It has been owned by Debenhams since 1976, yet the store is fairly old being founded in 1780, while it doesn't seem to compare to the older department stores in London, it still is a fairly nice branch, you can enter the store through street-level or through the Grosvenor Shopping Centre. The store is pretty old and you can tell that through shopping inside, they have random sets of steps and ramps all over, so it isn't just one straight/flat level, so do be careful where you're walking to avoid tripping. They had a huge clearance sale on my visit, due to Debenhams' facing difficulties and having to close many of their stores, including this one, I still found many of their prices to be high even after the discount, I found the promotional offers to be inconsistent and it was hard to tell what item costs what as each part of the store/product range would have a different % off. The store did seem a little messy, but it did have some good products overall and it is nice to see they haven't ignored the history, it's a shame to see this store earmarked for closure as although it isn't perfect, it is and remains a nice addition to the town centre. 3*

This place really is fantastic for womens clothes - like debenhams it has all the usual brands such as Jane Norman and Oasis, and it has a great underwear section with huge variety of pretty knickers. It also has a wedding section with loads of higher quality dresses. Of course these come with a higher price tag that the high street stuff that can be found there but this is where I would come to look for something to wear for a special occasion.

They sell all sorts of bits and bobs in between, but this Women's store sells all their Per Una clothes at a fraction of their high street RRP. From summer dresses to throws, underwear and dressing gown, this place has it all, in a variety of shapes and sizes. The one complaint is that all the stock is mixed up because this shop is always mad busy! They have random items for sale as well, like tins of luxury Xmas biscuits all year round, and random seasonal junk that the main stores send them to sell off. The shop is huge, so if you're a woman on a clothes shopping mission, set aside a good half an hour to have a root around for a bargain!

A couple of negatives as well. Firstly the building is basically a barn and really needs redecorating inside. It looks shabby which creates a poor impression overall. Secondly the reductions aren't as generous as you would expect in an outlet shop. For example the last time I visited I found some Ben Sherman T-shirts which had been reduced from £29.99 to £24.99, a saving of only £5. Overall it's OK for the older shopper but not great.

Since then it's had a makeover and having visited for the first time in years I can now report it's a very clean and modern looking buildings selling clothes for the over sixties. Actually there were one or two small sections of clothing for younger people, brands like Brave Soul and Lambretta, but only very limited ranges. And there didn't appear to anything for kids at all which disappointed my eight year old daughter.
