The Marks and Spencer in Dumfries is one of my favorite stores in the town centre. Ok, most Marks and Spencers are the same with the variety coming from size. So, I can't really say it is that different to any other M&S (apart from the new one by my folks in Edinburgh - massive and awesome).
The reason I like it so much is what it can offer me. Although modest in size compared to other stores, it meets most needs. There is a cafe, a good size clothing area and (my favorite) a foodhall - yesss.
The store can be accessed from either the main street or the Loreborne shopping centre. I think this is clever as it attracts a lot of through traffic. The ground floor houses the clothes area houses both the clothes and cafe - both of which have a good size plot. Downstairs takes you to the foodhall which has yet another entrance and exit. Again, I think this is clever as it leads to another part of the town and out to the pick up area for cars.
I won't say much about what Marks sell as it is the same all over. But I will say for a smallish store their foodhall has great variety. You maybe couldn't do your weekly shop there every week (who could afford to!), but there is certainly the essentials. Plenty choice of fruit, veg, tins, wine, bread and lunch goods. Plus, they have also started doing ingredients which is handy.
The staff are lovely and friendly and always seem keen to help.
I know Marks can be a little harsh on the pocket in these times of credit crunches and penny pinching, but everything I have ever bought from Marks has been worth every pound spent. There food is the best quality and I never seem to mind wandering round their aisles (unlike the torture of Tesco).
If you are looking for a few bits and pieces, some decent quality wardrobe staples or a coffee in Dumfries, Marks is a good choice. You know what you're getting and i'm sure it will be good. read more
