With electronics, housewares, perfumes, cosmetics, clothing and shoes, you can do it all here, as long as you don't mind the slightly premium price. My favourite thing about this Debenham's is the Benefit makeup counter. Being a California girl, I prefer Benefit to other cosmetics, and this Benefit counter was just as good. The manager of the Notts Benefit was a really sweet yet efficient pretty lady in her early 20s. I had a budget (boo), but was pretty specific about what I was lookign for -- yet vague enough to need to test nearly every product. You know, a typical idiotic consumer. With tons of efficiency, friendliness and patience, she took me through the range of products I was looking for, offered suggestions but didn't oversell, and left me ultimately with two modest purchases I didn't regret. This Debenham's is quite large, and has a great selection of women's clothing, particularly well stocked on swimsuits and summer clothing in spring (hurrah for ice cream lolly bikinis in style of Katy Perry!). It has a cafe/restaurant on the top floor with decent coffees and cappucinos for the weary credit-card wielder.

I personally believe the shop could do with a major re-vamp as it has started to look very tired in recent years. I do not agree with other reviewers comments that it's like a little Harrods, it's no where near as good. They do offer a wide range of products and very often have attractive sales on that can save you quite a bit of cash. I recommend the homeware department and have picked up a fair few bargains in there over the years.

It is quite a large store over two floors, including a small Cafe, the cafe, in particular, looked a little poor and run down - it had no soul or atmosphere, it felt like a waiting room for death and I couldn't bear to stay in there for just a couple of minutes. The selection didn't appear to be as good as other stores, the selection, in general, appeared more towards the women's market than men and considering HOF isn't a gender-specific brand, the balance between men and female clothing, fragrance etc seemed one-sided. The overall feel of the store is okay and it is a nice and unique brand to have in the mall, giving Meadowhall a sort of USP with many other towns and cities having the branches nearby rather than inside, of course it isn't as big, grand and marvellous as other department stores, whether that's a rival chain or HOF branch but it is pretty much "A-OK". 3*

Marks & Spencer in Sheffield is one of the larger shops in the city centre of the South Yorkshire…read morecity, it is located on Fargate over multiple floors and is one of two major locations the brand has within a small radius in Sheffield, the other of course being one of the flagship stores at Meadowhall. This store just lacks compared to its' nearby store of the same brand, it feels less modern and in some ways, the stock feels depleted, especially in the Food Hall, the whole range lacked with so many food items out of stock. The staff did seem friendly enough, and the Food Hall did have a nicer feel to it, compared to the rest of the store, with the only major flaw being the "out of stock" signs everywhere. A decent, large store in the department store chain nonetheless, and not terrible by any means, but certainly leaves many factors for improvement. It is, however, a nice brand to have in the city centre of Sheffield, which already lacks towards Meadowhall and I feel the city would be a lot worse off without this store. 3*

The staff are always helpful and chatty but two things make it only three stars for me. One is that the store is always blisteringly and uncomfortably warm, especially on the upper floors. And secondly, there's the toilets. As one of very few public toilets left in town, they are always left in a right state and stink to high heaven.

It's deceptively large, with its own coffee shop upstairs and departments for kitchen ware, china and glass, toys, garden gear, and a lovely little specialist food and confectionary section. It is especially enjoyable to visit at Christmas time, as they always have an enormous tree that is beautifully decorated, and many stunning special christmas ornaments on sale. Traditional, maybe even a bit old-fashioned, and with that comes old-fashioned excellent customer service and very polite sales assistants. Bennetts is always a pleasure to visit, and brilliant for unusual gift ideas.

They have a small section of homewares, again good prices i brought some tall bubble glasses for only 50p each! there is an enterance on the main street and at the back the enterance goes into the precinct oposite waitrose. Downstairs is a vast array of women's clothes, accessories and shoes, with a sizeable Petite section. There is also a large childrenswear section and well presented homewares section, with duvets, curtains, as well as larger items like tables and sofas. Upstairs is a large menswear section with a great range of casualwear and formal wear too. Their range of formal shirts, ties and other accessories are difficult to beat. This store is obviously managed well, it is always tidy and well stocked; it only slips into chaos at sale time when it resembles a glorified rummage sale, when people lose all sense of reason!

An awesome place to go to pick up bargains at any time of year…read more Home Bargains have all categories of stock from Toiletries to Gardening items and toys to clothes. They always have a huge selection of foods, snacks, drinks and sweets. The housewares section is particularly good with things like lamps, Cushions, curtains and bed sets at ridiculous prices. Home bargains isn't the kind of place that has a lasting array of stock. Their inventary is ever changing so if you see something you want but don't have the money, don't expect to go next week and they will still have it. You have to grab it while it is there. They do a lot of end of line stuff from other stores and I would guess at the moment probably have a lot of ex-Woolworths stock. I would suggest that if you have a Home bargains in your area go stock up now for birthdays and Christmas gifts or cards. Sometimes the staff can be a bit ignorant. I think they probably employ youngsters for the cheap wages but sometimes a smile would be nice. They also have a sign saying that never more than 3 to a queue but that should read never more than 3 staff on at a time

Home Bargains has to be one of the best discount stores in the UK. I have bought so many things…read morefrom there! Unlike most discount stores, most of the products are 'well known' brands. The only downside I can think of the place is that when you go back for more of the same thing, they are usually gone as product cycles are very fast. I've even bought 2 sets of leather chairs from the shop which have been just as good quality as ones people have bought for a much higher price. Thoroughly worth a look when you are near the area. Get your wallet ready and a trolley because you are going to need them!
