We came on a Friday afternoon as first time customers. Takes cash only. The restaurant is small with 4 tables and a counter with stools. Drinks are canned Coke products, bottled water, and bottled Gold Peak tea, both sweetened and unsweetened . We ordered the fish sandwich and shared an order of onion rings. BEST FRIED COD SANDWICH IN STL AREA! Made the trip to grab lunch here based on the recommendation of a former co-worker and I was not disappointed at all. Small, family-owned spot and upon entering the small dining room we were warmly greeted by the owner and family as well as most of their lunchtime clientele. They've been open and in operation in this same location for 93 years! As first-time visitors we were given the suggestion to try the house special fried cod sandwich served on their house-made cream bread. Sandwich, fries, and a drink totaled about $12 so definitely a value aside from everything else. Within 4-5 minutes we were served table-side with extremely fresh and hot food. Both the fish and fries were hot, crispy, and flavorful. The house-made bread that comprised the sandwich was nice and soft with a nice crust. Overall this place was a gem to find and I could not recommend it more empahatically. Go give it a try! read more

Thanks s tiny 90 plus year old family business is a real gem if your a fan of bartered fried fish. The micro menu offers one of the best Fish Sandwiches I've ever had. It's served on bakery white bread with sliced onion, banana peppers and pickles. Tartar and hot sauce are available. I ordered a fish sandwich and fries. Currently only carry out is available. This hearty meal was less than $10. Service was fast in spite of the Lenten lunch rush. It's well worth the drive off the beaten path to find this delightful piece of culinary history. read more

In fact, I've had better fish at American Legion-type places on Friday nights. The fries were fine, too. What I found the most odd was the food was very fast, as if they just pre-made it. Surely, they wouldn't have known what I was going to order before I walked in the door. From the time I walked in and sat at my table and got my full plate, it was probably 4 minutes. The only different thing about the sandwich was it was on big white bread, with onions and banana peppers (I thought it was a nice combination). I also liked that there was hot sauce on the table, in a plastic container. But overall, I just wasn't won over. Especially for the price I paid, with just cash. The big golden beer battered cod fish is pretty good. The only thing I can really compare it to is Culvers Cod fish sandwhich, in this case Marko's is better all day long. If you stop by, you are gonna get a big cut of cod fish that is beer battered and golden deep fried. Now if you are afraid of oil, this fish comes with a little bit of oil on it. As a matter of fact the only way you can get this fish is deep fried and beer battered. I have tried the onion rings and the fries they are all frozen there is no kitchen prep in this place. However, for frozen they are pretty tasty, I guess it is that fish oil. They offer shrimp, which I understand may not be their strong dish, as I like my shrimp big if fried and these are not that big at all, I was told they are popcorn shrimp, as the cook told me. They offer hamburger and cheeseburgers, however, the cook said it is best to stick with the cod fish. So now you know when you come, order only the cod fish sandwich, now you have a choice of how you want it. You can get your cod fish sandwich plain on good white bread, or with your selection of pickles, onions and or banana peppers on white bread. Your condiments of choice are premade tarter sauce or hot sauce packets. A cold soda in a can costs you $1.00 Now this place can easily be passed up if you are not looking for it, as it does not look like a restaurant. It is a small little place but with a lot of parking and it is off the street parking. The place at best can seat 12 people, 4 at the counter and 8 at the tables and you better know each other. I think if you are in the area or passing through do try this place you may well enjoy it. If you are not in the area don't make a special trip unless you just want to try a different cod fish sandwich that is simple and good. This is great for me, I like mines with the pickles, onions and banana peppers the tarter sauce is my condiment of choice. I do wish they would make their own tarter sauce and make it better than the squirt bottle stuff. But if it ain't broke why fix it. Everything when you look at this place says it's wrong. They literally built a diner in the front room of a house. They keep their fish in a deep freeze that's in plain view of the customers. You can watch across the counter as they prepare your order. And this is one of the best darn fish sandwiches out there!
