This is crazy that's their Job as living in an apartment complex get Parking spaces cleared , Many elderly people still work and cant do it . The day after I moved out, I actually forgot a couple of things in my "tools drawer" where I store all my tools and manuals for the furniture. I still had my key and was on my way to return it the day after move out. I remembered I have completely forgotten about my tools drawer and went back to get it before turning in my key. The key did not work. They had already changed the locks! Luckily, it was left unlocked! I walked in and they had already given the place a fresh new coat of paint and had all the lights and fans on. I looked around to see if I walked in on maintenance but no one was there. Everything was just as I left it. I went straight to my drawer and my tools were gone! Only my manuals were in there. Exactly 29 days later, I called Copper Ridge for my deposit since there are legally required to invoice me at 30 days which is stated on the lease agreement. I told them I haven't received or heard anything regarding my deposit and the property manager said I should receive it within the next day or so. It was 2 days later that I receive my check of ONLY 25 bucks. No invoice of any charges were included. I called them back and asked for my invoice for the charges they have taken out of my 200 dollar deposit. 125 for "furniture damage" and 50 for "pet urination". This was told to me over the phone btw. I regret not taking pictures because I was so confident on how spotless I left the place. And I think it's funny how they charge for "pet urination" when there is only carpet in the bedroom and my dog was trained to never go in the bedroom. No matter how hard you tried, she would not budge. So when I finally received a copy of my invoice, that I had to keep asking for, the inspection was done 8 days after I moved out! And the one sign off on the inspection was the property manager! There were no photos, nothing to prove of the furniture damage or pet urination! In short, not only did they stole nearly my entire deposit, they provided no proof of damages and urination and they've taken my tools while I still had the key. They also did the inspection 8 days after I moved out, meaning after they had taken my tools, change the locks and put on a fresh coat of paint. Don't recommend to anyone. I will not go to my tenant lawyer about this. The cost of my lawyer is more than what I'm fighting for.

Neither were every fixed properly. The apartment always stunk and may had lead to my cronic headaches. They just glue and paint everything. All cheap appliances and crappy work. This was a 3 bedroom apartment with a studio apartment size refrigerator. I actually had to buy a small refrigerator that I had to put in my closet for food when there was no room in the other. Stove was complete shit and the cheapest thing you could buy. When I moved out they told me the 1 year old carpet needed replaced due to excessive pet stains. My pets are house trained or I wouldn't keep them. They showed one spot on the carpet in the corner of a room with a black light on it. Not even sure it was my apartment, but if it were, $1700 to replace the entire apartment carpet for a spot the size of a coffee cut. $25 to take a sticky razor holder off of the shower wall and $50 to reinstall a doorknob. Parking is absolutely horrible and the dumpster is always breaking down with trash piling up. They overcharge for everything and are terrible at communication and problem solving. I couldn't wait to get out of this place. Luxury my a$$!

Everything was fresh, clean, and Pinterest-worthy. And that pool? Perfect for beating the summer heat. But as with every relationship, the cracks started showing. The upstairs neighbors? Full-time weed enthusiasts. Their balcony was like a 24/7 cloud machine. And the soundproofing? Practically non-existent. If they dropped a spoon, we knew about it. If they had a dance party, we felt like we were in the club with them. Within our first few weeks, we had a giant package delivered--and it got stolen from *inside* the building. Yes, INSIDE. I thought indoor deliveries were supposed to be safer, but nah, apparently, it's fair game. The pool? Great... unless there were more than four people in it. Suddenly, it felt like sardines in a can. And at night? It turned into the hottest (and least exclusive) nightclub in town. Random people snuck in all the time. Cue police sirens and new security guards patrolling all night like it was a Fast & Furious movie. Also, Building Two has *limited* parking thanks to the dog park behind it. Finding a spot felt like playing parking roulette most nights. It's Independence, MO, so some of this is expected. But after a year, the reality hit different than our first dreamy few weeks. If you move here, bring earplugs, a safe, and a good sense of humor. You'll probably need all three.

I can prove everything the slumlord claims that's being held against me to be false, but applicants aren't given the opportunity to do so. I'm taking legal action against the slumlord, but I need to be living somewhere else because the amount of retaliation I'll receive will be too great for me to stay. Those in charge of making the decisions as to who is and isn't allowed to live at Highleah don't seem to be aware that bad things happen to good people- especially in housing situations, and that makes me question their character, which makes me wonder about their credibility in "doing business". I've only heard good things about Highleah, but now I'm wondering if something about the place isn't so bad that people just aren't willing to say anything. Slumlords exist and people deserve an opportunity to defend themselves. This isn't a money issue either. My slumlord's playing far "dirtier". The living conditions where I am now aren't physically safe for multiple reasons. I've remained adamant that they be corrected for years now- I've even involved the city council- and the slumlord's just fed up with me, so she's using every possible means to make life harder for me and "the board" at Highleah is falling for it! It's frustrating, to say the least. From what I've heard, it's a great place to live, but at this point, I wonder how much they can be trusted.

The upfront pay is steep considering you will likely not get any of that money back when you move. As someone else pointed out, they will insist that you pay for new paint throughout the home (closets and ceilings included) and it must be completed by their painter to be accepted (close to $3000.00). Be advised before you purchase that this is not a deposit and you will not get that money back. I can't speak for the other streets, but Devonshire was the worst place I have ever lived. I'd like to think that because the police were there nearly every night to calm the domestic disputes that the place was at least partially safe, but after the gunshots rang out one night I abandoned all illusion of being safe. Wannabe teenager gangsters roamed the streets and stole anything they could, from doormats to flower pots, and vandalized vehicles; loud parties into early morning hours were a common occurrence; the on-site security was a joke as they rarely answered calls and had no real authority; avoiding messes from sloppy drunks was a regular morning exercise; some of the neighbors were very questionable; and gd forbid you park in a community spot that someone else had their eyes on. The construction of the units is typical. Paper-thin walls, but they seemed to hold up. The storage was ample and the w/d hookups a blessing. Unfortunately you could hear ever word your neighbors say, yell, scream, or moan. Maintenance was usually performed in a timely manner, but dealing with the incompetent, and often hostile, office managers can make it not even worth the bother. While maintenance is included with your monthly fee, they will try to make you feel as though you are asking too much. Sometimes it's just easier to deal with a broken fixture than it is to get it repaired. Highleah serves it's purpose: it's a place to live when you have limited income and don't mind sleepless nights.

Though everything might not work all the time. Since I have lived here I have experienced lights falling out of ceiling. Numerous times of not having hot water. Two instances of months, yes more that one, with no air conditioning during the summer. The pool is a lost cause. Last year I think it was available to us for about two weeks of the summer. It has yet to open this year at all. The obvious stench of drug usage through out the hallways. Of course this is after management leaves. For those that work nights or sleep late. Best to wear ear plugs. Kids and tenants tromping up and down stairs. Car horns to announce arrivals of friends and commuters. Car alarms through out the day and night to no end. Though management and maintenance seem competent, for one reason or another repairs and problems just never get fixed. They basically expect your understanding and patience. But god forbid if you're late one hour with your rent. I would not recommend this place to any but the desperate.

That has happened multiple times the people in charge or have authority over the place has went into my apartment without contacting me. People will ask to borrow things and if you say no or don't have what they want they'll pick a fight with you. There are lots of break ins. There are shootings three that I know of. They will use a key to get in your apartment if you don't answer quick enough whether you are in the shower or in bed sleeping you won't know they are in there until you get out or happen to wake up. I once went 3 months without hot water because they ignored my complaint numerous times to replace my igniter for my water heater that someone stole just to do it (water heater is located in basement). People do a lot of things there just to do it like throwing rocks at cars and windows (adults too believe it of not) car break ins, keying random cars breaking bottles in the street of sidewalk, loud music, daily arguments of fist fights, don't go out at night if you don't have too.. Lot's of meth addicts, weed smells come through the vents into your apartment if you are around someone who smokes weed. I recommend a hidden camera for inside the apartment when you leave. Don't make friends either I can only imagine how much worse that would be. I never talked to anyone out there and it was still hell.
