We've been dealing with old- very old kitchen spotlights. So when we gutted out our kitchen, there…read morewas no way in hell we were salvaging those as well as our under-cabinet lights. Our contractor referred us to come here on Central Ave in Yonkers because of their reputation, quality and variety. Lights on Design was like a crisp breath of fresh air when we stopped in here. Main floor is mostly crystal grand chandeliers, attractive contemporary style lights, some 1960s-inspired and more. And, if you're on their website, you can shop by style, fixture type and browse through some of their inspiration gallery photos. Paula was a doll, showed us the upstairs filled with mostly pendant lighting, floor lamps and some smaller chandeliers. Since so much has changed in lighting trend, getting rid of our wrought iron dining area chandelier had to happen as well- especially since it has a country-chicish look I don't like anymore in my home. There's another lighting store on Central Avenue which we could've gone to- but based on reviews, so glad this place came out on top. Owner Glenn, was helpful, patient and friendly. Even when hubs and I didn't find what we wanted on their website, Paula helped locate it in their paper catalog. I loved how she gave us expert advice on how to choose fixtures and even determined which size was best for our space. She was our lighting whisperer.

I had a similar experience to the story as described the prior yelp review:…read morehttps://www.yelp.com/biz/pleasantville-electric-pleasantville?osq=Pleasanville+Electric+Co.. I called about buzzing in my circuit breaker. I called Pleasantville Electric Co. to make an appointment as we advised of the $85 service fee and would be charged any applicable labor after that. The technician came and proceeded flipping breakers trying to isolate the one that was causing the buzzing which he did within an hour. No replacements; no repairs, When the tech called to get the final balance for the job; I was hit with a $345 fee! After speaking to the office rep and trying to get a sense of how the number inflated so quickly, they knocked it down by 10% as "courtesy." This wasn't nearly enough considering the level of actual work performed. We called later to get an explanation of how they arrived at the charges since we weren't informed at the time, we scheduled the service. Was there an hourly rate that wasn't communicated? No, in fact. There is no hourly rate, no explanation of the markup, they just makeup the price as they please. I had to fight to get a paid invoice which still doesn't show how they get to their final number. I asked for a callback from Management and still have not received a response. It's totally unacceptable to do business this way; beware using them.

I called out Pleasantville electric as my outdoor sockets were not working. I was told the call…read moreout charge was $80 and thereafter the charge was for whatever it took to fix the problem. The guy came, replaced the inner part of the socket and it was fixed in about 20mins maximum. The guy said it was a common problem and happens a lot with outdoor sockets. So EASY job for them, right? You can imagine my shock to hear he wanted $285!!!!!!! I complained, the guy called his manager and he tried to justify their charges. Of course he couldn't, but reduced it to $240. So I paid $240 for 20 minutes work. DO NOT use these guys, the costs are so ridiculous, I feel very ripped off. I think these guys think we must be idiots and can charge whatever they think. It is not acceptable!!!!!!!

When it comes to hooking up my home with different lamps and lighting, I never play by the rules…read more I'll mix every style under the sun and end up with something to give a particular spot life. I was drawn to a Moroccan candle lamp we bought ages ago in the East Village- then had hubs' friend hook up a wire and light bulb. Because that wasn't a legit electrical job, it gave out- but we saved the Moroccan Lamp anyway for looks. Powell has always been our first line of defense for all things Lamps and knew we'd get a brand new and rewired Moroccan lamp. Located a few doors down from Apple Farm and SAKS Off 5th, the husband and wife team here- have always delivered exceptional lamp service. Plus there's so much lighting eye candy. Powell's process is a bit off I think- but somehow it works and they do come through. I visited 2 weeks ago and explained my issue to Fran and asked how much wire I needed, length, on/off switch placement, etc. She fills out order receipt with basic name and # info. Powell Accessories will not give you prices on the spot and even though I asked, she just couldn't give me a ballpark estimate. Lamps stay with them while they access the situation. And between the time I dropped off my lamp and the time we got a quote was 2 weeks. Although I love my Moroccan lamp, my fear was without a price quote sooner- I didn't want to be slapped with a $500 bill afterwards! Goes to show you I'm not the lamp expert and all we paid was just $48!
