Havent been to a dentist in years. I started getting BAD pain on my left side. Decided to find a dentist on Yelp worth a visit. I found Dr. Genco and gave him a call. I called his office and got him, which was kind of a shock since I was expecting a secretary. I thought that was cool. I told him about my situation and went in the next day. I showed up a hour before he closed. He not only was SUPER cool, but very caring. After filing out some quick paperwork he brought me in. Before he even began he told me the most important thing for him is to make sure I never feel any pain. He did some visual checks... immediately told me the reason I was feeling alot of pain, as well as being lethargic was because my teeth were infected. He took some XRays and showed me the results. He quickly prescribed me antibiotics and explained our plans to get these teeth fixed. Throughout the whole process he was VERY caring. Something you rarely see from a dentist or even doctor nowadays. They usually finish you up and ask for the next one. Im planning to go back in a week or so to start fixing up these teeth. highly recommend him because hes really cool and caring. read more

Never in my life did I think I would say this, but I love my dentist. He is honsetly and genuinely interested in your wellbeing as well as adhereing to his "no-pain policy". My wife had an abscess and he had given us his personal cell number to call if it got any worse. He was actually on vacation when we called him and he stayed on the line with us and talked the emergency room dentist through what needed to be done. He's a man who loves his job and you can tell. He's constantly educating himself on the newest technologies and it makes a huge difference. I got a crown from him that even I am unable to tell where it starts and my tooth begins. I usually never give reviews, but I had to give Dr. Genco his. Everyone hates going to the dentist, and I know it's not only me but everyone hates a particular machine the dentist uses. In the words of Dr. Genco "we don't hurt anyone in the office". He truly kept his word on that. After having 2 appointment and letting Dr. Genco review my teeth. I know have found a dentist who can really take care of me and change my mind set of how I think going to the dentist would be. I used to be afraid of going to the dentist but Dr. Genco changed that. He truly is amazing, respectful, very open, and he's very honest with you. I never had that with a dentist. And now I'm happy to say that he is my personal dentist. I've been Dr. Genco's patient for 20 years. I can't imagine having any other dentist. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I was worried about excessive bleeding. My parents called Dr. Genco on his cell phone to ask for advice. He was on vacation, but still took the time out to give tips on helping my speedy recovery. No matter what, he is always there for his patients. He's a master at his craft, and a genuinely altruistic person. disclaimer, I did not have work done here but I did get an exam here including an xray. The dentist is a very nice man and will give you sound advice. he even took a picture of mouth and showed me the problem I was having. I do not have insurance and the work was to costly at the moment ($1000). I would certainly come back for a cleaning and a checkup. read more

I never leave Yelp reviews - but Dr. Genco is really the best dentist ever! I found him through Yelp and figured if so many people took the time to leave him all these great reviews (considering how much people dread going to the dentist) then he must be good...and he is! He is super attentive, always explains everything he is doing, never tries to "sell" you on things. He has a "no pain" policy and he really means it. I've seen him when I had to fill cavities and get a wisdom tooth removed and never felt even a pinch of pain. He really cares about what he does and his patients and is just overall a very nice person. I highly recommend him!!! read more

Great dentist in Staten Island! HIs examinations are thorough and he takes great care in having the patient understand the process. Also, he isn't a salesman which has turned me off to dentists in the past; Dr. Genco was focused on my presenting problem. I have always hated going to the dentist, but Dr. Genco goes out of his way to make you comfortable and relaxed. He is very conservative and doesn't do anything unless it is absolutely necessary. He doesn't try to push products, and he actually listens to what you have to say. When you are in the chair, he wants to know if you experience any pain. His philosophy is "no pain". Now, while I do have very sensitive gums and did feel some pain and discomfort, my husband didn't feel anything. He puts a ton of effort into making you feel comfortable and walk away pain-free. I highly recommend him. P.S. His staff is wonderful, too. She knew everyone who walked in by name and was also as attentive as the doctor. read more

He's a great dentist! Gives you the attention that you need and is very thorough. He explained my dental problems in a clear way and showed a genuine interest in helping me improve my dental health. He had a precise technique that cut down on pain and that was extremely important. 4.5 stars. I registered five because 4 did seem insufficient. As others have noted, a procedure that might take 30-45 minutes at another dentist could take twice as long here, but the level of care makes that a fine trade off. At my previous dentist there were many attempts to extract (pun intended) extra revenue, and even though I was satisfied with the care, the continuous upsell there drive me off. Dr. Genco was extremely thorough, and as a layperson who visits a dentist regularly, I thought I received a superior level of personalized attention and explanation. I will return to Dr. Genco's office, and am now his patient. I recommend him without reservation. read more

I finally got my dental coverage and made an appointment at Dr.Genco's dental office. X-rays, even photos, antibiotic prescription due to my tooth infection and estimate of $2,495.00 Well... I called another dentist and got estimate of $1,700.00 Called back to Dr.Genco's office and have been asked:"Why should you care how much your dental provider will pay?" Next day receptionist of Dr.Genco said to me:"At Dr.W---stein's dental office you are getting Sirloin and at Dr.Genco's office you will get Prime Beef Steak! You will get crown with layers of metal and not deep cleaning at other dentist!" This Saturday 08/29 I went to pick up my X-rays. Dr.Genco's receptionist Kareen tried to convince me to give it a thought in a very unusual way:"There are only 3 dentists on Staten Island with CAD/CAM and I know them all! Dr.W---stein is not one of them!" She was trying to make statement by saying about 4-5 times:"Let me tell you this!!!!" I kept telling her that I just want to pick up my X-rays and leave. Kareen said that I must sign some paper:"We won't be responsible in case if your tooth will fell out!" Dr.Genco came out with the clip board. I told him that I don't appreciate Kareen's behavior. He asked me to sign statement, that I am taking my X-rays to another dentist for a second opinion. And than he said:"You have a gum desease in your 30's what will happen to you in your 50's!?" "This are your X-rays, BUT I'LL KEEP THE PHOTOS! BECAUSE THEY ARE MINE! THEY BELONG TO ME!" WOW!!!!! I do not have conflict of interest with Dr.Genco. I am sharing it with any potential patient of his. Decide for yourself! By the way... Dr.Genco is ADA member. Some weired doctor ethic! read more

First rate dentist, all the way. A real "one man band"; juggles about five patients at a time, but still manages. That might be his only drawback, however. A simple procedure, which would normally last about twenty minutes, can take as long as two hours here. Still a fine,painless dentist, but don't forget to bring plenty of quarters for the parking meters outside........... read more

Run, don't walk. Away that is...My girlfriend went to him on several occasions. Came across as nice and caring and we were happy at first. But the signs were there that this was not going to be a satisfying dentist/patient relationship. He has no receptionist or hygenist. That means when he's doing the dental work, he had to stop to answer phones or see who came through the door. While working on my girlfriend he had other people in the other rooms and stopped to work on them and then came back. Jack of all trades, master of none does not work well when they have their fingers in your mouth. In my opinion, the office is dingy at best. We questioned the cleanliness of the mirror he was about to put in her mouth and his response was to put it in his own mouth. Totally absurd way to try to prove his instruments were clean. Music was way too loud, couldn't even relax. When cleans the teeth he pushes bleaching, probably to hide the stains he leaves. What was really weird was that he quickly got too personal telling about his sons problems, his ex-wife problems, issues with his brother, girlfriend's personal business, and things way too intimate. When confronted with this he actually said he thinks he's friends with his patients. Way too much information. He should keep his personal matters personal. Completely unprofessional. Worst is he replaced a filling and things went wrong. Had to go to another dentist who said he went down too deep. Genco thought otherwise and showed me the xray showing it was not too deep. Problems was, that was the "before" xray, not an "after" xray. Ended up having to pay a specialist for a root canal. read more
